Kate, the young detective in this series, is working on a new case.
This is just such a cosy series, there is not too much choice for children's mystery books, but this one really is fantastic.
The story keeps you interested and the illustrations are stunning.
Thank you to NetGalley for the arc.
Aimed at 5-8 year olds, this third installment in the Kate on the Case series is a perfect early chapter book for confident readers.
Kate is a young reporter, visiting The Lookout Post and meeting some of her idols. But the visit isn't without problems. Someone is sabotaging the paper and Kate takes on the mission of finding out who is trying to bring the newspaper down before it's too late and publication is ended forever. With a cast of likeable characters, Kate needs to speak to everyone who works at the paper, and get help from her mouse friend Rupert to solve the mystery.
This is a fun story and I'll certainly be adding this and the others in the series to our classroom library.

Follow Kate and Rupert as they continue to search for answers!
A brilliant series for young readers, Kate is an exceptional character. Filled with determination and ambition, she always strives to save the day. Rupert is gorgeous and offers valuable insight and input into all their cases.
The young heroine Kate takes on another baffling case of detection. However, this time it is closer to home and she cannot afford to fail if she wants to write for the local paper. A great story for the younger reader who is just getting in to reading about crime stories.
This is such a great series and I love recommending it to younger readers after a bit of mystery! I feel like the pickings can be a little slim in this particular age category if you’re not looking for something animal related, and this is another brilliant instalment in the series.
The illustrations are wonderful and perfectly add to the story, and there’s so much to keep you reading and keep you entertained!
This has got to be the 5-8 series I recommend most often, and the latest instalment does not disappoint. The Headline Hoax is a beautifully illustrated and funny mystery story, with delightful characters and a great setting. This book effortlessly explores meeting your idol, friendship, and jealousy while telling a wonderful story, and I cannot wait for the next book in the series!
In the third mystery of the series, Kate is thrilled when she receives an invitation for her birthday to work as a reporter at the local newspaper alongside her hero, Catherine Rodriguez, . But then she discovers, Penny Press the proof reader distraught - she checked the copy of The Lookout Post newspaper over sixteen times before it went to press and somehow it still contains spelling errors and nonsense headlines. She insists they were not there when she checked it.
Kate and her trusty mouse sidekick, Rupert, have forty-eight hours to discover who the saboteur is before the owner reluctantly Figgy FitzHarris shuts The Lookout Post down for good. Readers can help solve the mystery alongside our two amateur detectives, Kate and Rupert, by unravelling the clues and eliminating the red herrings in each chapter.
Kate on the Case: The Headline Hoax is a fun, fast-paced adventure with lots of exciting twists and turns to keep the reader turning the pages. Hannah Peck definitely has a great understanding of her 7 – 11 year old readership and her brilliant illustrations compliment the text perfectly.
Perfect for all KS2 bookshelves.
This is A Very Good Detective Novel, Like Nancy Drew but with a Twist.
(Thanks to Net Galley for this Book).
This is such a lush series. In this one, Kate has to figure out who the saboteur in the local newspaper is! Meeting your idol, finding the bad guy and trying your best - will it be enough to save the day? I loved all the illustrations too!
The childreen really enjoyed this book and it really made them think. They collected the clues and discussed them trying to work out the answers after each section I read. They concentrated so much on the story and collated the clues and worked with them. Their theories and answers were then drawn / written up and collected into a "case file". It was fascinating (and a bit like an episode of Morse). We definitely need more books in this range.
Thank you very much NetGalley for a copy of this book in exchange on my honest opinion.
I love this series very much! I think it is great for children that starting to read chapter books and like mysteries!
In this one, Kate is assigned a very difficult case happening inside a newspaper building, but will she be able to solve it?
Fun, enjoyable, amusing and shocking, I definitely recommended!
I really enjoyed all of the little journalism related touches in the illustrations. I found myself engrossed in the story and wondering, each time we encountered a new character, if they could have been the one responsible for the sabotage. Kate and her trusty sidekick, Rupert, remain undaunted though and are determined to find their culprit. I think this will prove really popular with my Y3/4 readers.
Thank you so much to Piccadilly Press and Netgalley for the ebook to read and review.
Kate is invited to have a look round her favourite newspaper, but then the owner tells her about a sbatoage happening there and asks her to stay and investigate. Interviewing, following the clues and seeing everything around her helps solve the truth of who is sabotaging the newspaper.
This was so much fun, I loved solving this with Kate. The whole storyline being set in a multi-floored newspaper press was fascinating. It wasn’t a very easy one to solve either and I really enjoyed following with Kate and Rupert as they uncovered everything that was really going on.
The illustrations were really fun to look at throughout and they seemed to have that newspaper style to them which I actually thought was a clever touch. I loved meeting all the mix of characters that worked there and trying to see who would have been causing the trouble.
This was such a fun mystery, I really enjoyed it from the start and I loved that Kate made a new best friend while working on this case, someone she never thought she’d befriend and yet she did. I highly recommend this book if you enjoy a fun easy to read mystery.
