I just...where is the intrigue. Why are there pages upon pages of people thinking things and not DOING things? I like a relatively slow burn, but this is taking that title to ridiculous levels. I just about managed to get through 'Never Fall for Your Fiance' BECAUSE there was a lot of plot happening. And while Giles and Diana were two of my favourite characters, in this book they fall flat. I wanted more to happen, I wanted things to be more exciting and different, I guess? I've read enough historical regency fiction at this point to know when I've got something new and when it's something too familiar. People will like this - it's fun - but I just couldn't keep my attention on it for long.
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for this eARC of 'Never Rescue a Rogue' by Virgina Heath.
'Never Rescue a Rogue' is your average historical romance. I liked the story but not enough to justify it having a star rating of over a 3. The romance was interesting and I did enjoy that bit but the characters weren't for me and I felt myself dragging my heels whenever I went to pick the book up.
I adore everything Julia Quinn and Bridgerton so when I saw this book, I thought perfect.
This was fantastic, the storyline, the characters and the writing is spot on
I honestly couldn't ask for better
Thankyou NetGalley and Headline Eternal for providing this ARC
A refreshing array of dazzling wit, hidden depths, lip curling humour & heartmelting fun, in all its entangling intimacy!!
Virginia Heath is a marvellous wordsmith and creator of such beguiling and rich characters that they get under your skin and make you wish you had such gumption, flair for life and steadfast convictions. I literally enjoyed every second of NEVER RESCUE A ROGUE as I lapped this wonderfully fun treat up in its entirety.
It was so well written and, dare I say, crafted to a polished shine, that it flowed with a natural ease and effortless where never a moment appeared dull, unwarranted or contrived. Surprisingly rich in its believability and backed up with an insightful understanding of the layers and polished veneers we as individuals erect to protect our selves and are so resistant to see crumble despite wanting it so desperately. I just loved the fact I could find joy in each nuance, quip and heartfelt declaration between its characters.
Giles and Diana are one riotous hoot when together, quite the tapestry of razor sharp-wit, outlandish good natured ridiculousness and heart warmingly delightful wordplay. Their antics had me laughing, smiling in awe, welling up with tears and even my tummy swooping and swirling at their radiating chemistry. Which as a collective, so cleverly entangled me in my love of the characters, not just as a comedy act but as deeply intriguing individuals too, that I instantly became enraptured in their hidden vulnerabilities and uncertainties, troubled histories, quest to find answers and deep worry to understand and help each other, that I found my self savering each moment. The characters are so enchantingly colourful that even the subcharacters so easily have you smiling and aching along with them too.
This is my first book by Heath and such a gem of a find that it will have me actively hunting out its predecessor and waiting with eager anticipation for the next in the series too.
Highly recommended escapism that so effortlessly interweaves fun, mystery and the heartmeltingly bewitching so perfectly it will draw you in and keep you tightly under its spell until the last word! Definitely a contender for my favourite book of the year!
I hadn’t realised when I read this that it was a series of 3 books, which I’d already read the first of, but you don’t need to read the first one, it just gives you background on who some of the other minor characters are. It was a really enjoyable read with a villain, mystery, romance, and a HEA. I would definitely recommend!
Until series 3 starts there is currently a large Bridgerton shaped hole in my life, this book has filled it perfectly, enjoyable plot and likeable characters
This is one of those ‘hard to put down books’. Good strong plot and characters. A budding romance which is obvious to everyone but the main characters.. A mystery to be solved. This book made me laugh out loud at times. Well worth reading.
