I was delighted to pick this up as I have been wanting to try a book from this author with forever. She did not disappoint. I’m obsessed with everyone and everything in this book. I would highly recommend. I guess I now have to buy the next book in the series to continue on in the series. I am also so obsessed with the setting and characters and the romance element.

City of Night by Linsey Hall is another incredible paranormal romance from an author who never fails to deliver a captivating read. Once again, I found myself completely hooked and unable to put the book down. Linsey Hall has a talent for creating amazing characters, particularly strong leads who are independent thinkers and don't rely on others to rescue them. That being said, the brooding and intriguing men in the story add an extra layer of allure. I am utterly in love with this book and eagerly await the next installment.

One character that stole my heart is Talan, who I believe is my new book boyfriend. Despite being a demon with immense power and owning part of New Orleans, Talan's past aligns so closely with Cora's that they are perfect mates. I admire how he fiercely protects his people, even going as far as hunting down those who pose a threat. Talan's abilities and strength command respect, and his determination to ensure that his old master can never harm him again is commendable.

Cora's story is equally captivating. She is on the run from her master, who forced her to use her power to kill with a touch. I sympathize deeply with Cora, as her mother sold her to magic traffickers and she was raised to believe that having friends and emotions were weaknesses. The abuse she has endured has made it difficult for her to understand her feelings for Talan, but their connection is undeniable. It breaks my heart to think of Cora having no friends and constantly living in fear of her secret being discovered.

Linsey Hall's storytelling prowess shines through in the way she develops the plot, maintains suspense, and introduces intriguing secondary characters. The action, intriguing situations, and even moments of humor seamlessly contribute to the story, keeping the reader engaged throughout. It is worth noting that City of Night is the first book in the series and does not end with a cliffhanger, which I greatly appreciate. I am already eager to see what happens next for Cora and to uncover the surprises the author has in store.

I voluntarily reviewed this captivating and entertaining story. Linsey Hall's writing style and the empowering heroines with extraordinary powers never fail to impress me. City of Night is a fantastic book that I highly recommend, and I eagerly await the continuation of Cora's journey in future stories.

I was do intrigued by the blurb on this book. I was completely immersed in the story from the beginning. The characters were unique and fascinating. It's a fast paced story that will both thrill you and captivate you. My only complaint is having to wait for the next one to come out.

This was a fun quick read and a good start to a new Urban Fantasy series. Cora moves to New Orleans to inherit her mother's estate, including all the baggage that some with it which includes a ghost, a cat, and a demon lord presiding over the area. She quickly finds herself in the middle of city politics and shenanigans and a kidnapping plot. We gets hints of her past life in which she was sold as a baby and used as a mercenary. So she has a lot of personal and trust issues and is very self reliant.

She and the demon lord find themsleves inexplicably drawn to each other as they search to find Elisa, the missing girl and the depths of crime and corruption happening in his territory. Along the way we meet a few key players and people who Cora slowly opens up to the longer she sticks around seeing what New Orleans means for her and her new life here.

I made my way through it quicker than I expected and didn't get too bogged down with magic or politics. I might go looking for book 2 in the future. 3.5 stars

Quick Summary: WOW!

My Review: City of Night by Linsey Hall was insanely good. Seriously!!!

What I Loved About This Book:

- What made this story so entertaining was its uniqueness. It was a whole new supernatural experience.

- The setting was in NOLA. Still, there was a world that existed beyond the obvious.

- There were four main factions, however, there were outliers that existed as well. Dark and devious forces were at play throughout the book.

- The characters were phenomenal - Cora, Talan, Fiona, Rei, Mia, Calex, the demon cat, the witches. They each had their own charm.

- The antagonists were bananas. They each played their role to perfection. What was most obvious was that more is coming. That shadow of dread permeated the air.

- Cora and Talan... 💣💥💥💥🔥 They've got that BOOM BOOM POW thing going on. Their chemistry was explosive. (I love how they were trying so hard to fight what they so obviously felt. You cannot run from a fire that wants to consume you. It's pointless. They kept being drawn together. It was like they couldn't stay away.)

- The mystery surrounding Cora's mother. There had to be a reason why she did what she did. To Cora. To Fiona. In NOLA. (And I have to wonder, who is Cora's father?)

- I loved that none of the female characters were weak. They were fierce in their own way. (Yass!)

My Favorite Scenes (coded to avoid spoilers):

- No, You Can't See Me
- Party Up!
- Just Like Fire
- May I Touch You
- Partners
- Why Did You Do That
- Dream State
- Blood of One

My Final Say: This gets a hidden treasure rating. It's golden. Readers who are fans of paranormal fic will eat this up and come back for second helpings.

3.5 stars rounding up.

City of Night is a Supernatural Romance with a mystery happening at the same time. The POV follows Cora, who just inherited a bookshop, the same night she arrives in town a girl disappears from across the street. When she sets out to find out what happened to her neighbor, she also has the Demon king hounding her every step and while sparks fly, she needs to stay focused, but he is making it difficult.
I gave this book 3.5 stars. I really enjoy reading this book. The setting was great, I loved how the city had different rulers for each area. It made navigating and trying to find clues super interesting because there are power dynamics and rivals between each and different rules, so Cora and to tread carefully as well as take advantage of it and it adds a complex element, super good. Cora was a tough, no nonsense, guard always up type of girl and I thought she was great plus loving her magical ability and very helpful to have, she was a great character. I loved the side characters too in this book. They were so fun, especially the ghost in the bookstore and why she was haunting Cora’s mother. I want to know about that!
The Demon king, I don’t know yet how I feel about him. I want to see more of him and a little bit more romance between them in the second book, which I will be picking up. I can't wait! I do like how he knew to change it up and was not dominant the whole time and trying to force Cora to do what he wanted because no way that was going to work with Cora’s personality.
The writing style was ok for me and well-paced, it does feel juvenile at times. I would also really like to see some more world building in the next book. I found the setting, city, magic, and creatures so interesting and unique I just wanted more. I would highly recommend it.
Trigger warnings: kidnapping, blood, gore.
I received this advanced ebook, via Netgalley. This review is my own honest opinion.

This book had potential but it also had too much of everything else which I’ve read other books that had the same issue and they were saved by the main characters being likable &/or relatable but not this book and not the FMC. First the first chapter I did not like the FMC. The best way to describe my annoyance with this book is this…”I want to leave my old life behind (it’s the only life I’ve ever known) but I moved to a new city in which I know nothing about, don’t take time to learn, dismiss advice I’m given, and try to force everyone to cater to me cause I’m a b***ss but not really cause a b***ss would do a half-decent threat assessment the I proceed to get beat up not learn from it and do the same stupid/idiotic stuff over & over again cause I’m special”… it was extremely frustrating!!! I’ve read and like Ms. Hall’s books before but not this one.

I really liked Cora ,she's such a badass ,i find her powers so interesting and i would totally love to see more of her backstory ! i totally love her first meeting with Talan ! omg the passion and heat that is coming off them is undeniable ! and i can't wait to see where their relationship goes :) the banter and the push and pull between them is so freaking good, i also really liked that she starts to make friends which is something she has never had before and she doesn't really know how to handle it but she's starting to learn how to let people in !

OMG Talan (fans self) the demon lord is such a hottie ! i loved him the moment we meet him and i totally can't wait to see more of him and Cora ,they are kinda perfect for one another and i can not wait to see the payoff between them ,they both come from similar backgrounds and they both don't want to be drawn to each other but its totally out of their control ! i loved ever second of their steamy scenes together :)

Omg i loved all the side characters too ! i am hoping some of them get a bigger part in the next book !

overall really liked this book and i can't wait to read the next one asap !

Linsey Hall has the heroine move to the City of Night. Talan, the demon lord, who controls her neighbourhood wants her to pay protection for safety of herself and her haunted bookstore. She wants to find out who kidnapped a young woman outside her store. Ghosts, witches, demons and other supernaturals fight for territory.
Will there be romance between our heroine and Talan? Read and enjoy.

In this new series Cora and Talan are got to take you on a dangerously crazy adventure through New Orleans. This one’s got ghosts, a shadow cat, magic traffickers and a mysterious murderous dead mom all while living in an inherited bookshop. Can’t wait to get my hands on more.

City of Night is the first book in the Secrets & Sin series by Linsey Hall. When I inherit a haunted bookstore in New Orleans, I go from demon hunter to my dream job. Unfortunately, there’s a dark side to my beautiful new life—the gorgeous demon who seems to think he owns the place. The attraction between us is insane, and we can’t keep our eyes off each other. But I don’t trust him one bit—especially not the way he uses his seductive charms to try to compel me to work for him. When a young girl is kidnapped from right outside my house, he’s the first person on my mind. I just can’t figure out if he’s the culprit or my fiercest protector. But I do know he has answers. And I have to resist his dangerous allure, because to give in is to risk losing everything—including my life.

City of Night is an urban fantasy that sets the stage nicely for a series. I felt like there were many teases about what happened in the past, and what might tie the many players together beyond attraction. I really liked the world building and the small town feel that the New Orleans neighborhood is given. I liked the secondary characters, and I thought the mystery and set up were all very well done. I did feel like certain aspects of the story were a little predictable, and since I have read other things from the author everything felt very familiar. I double checked a couple times that I hadn't already read this series, or a companion book to the series, which I could find no evidence of. The result was a bit like rereading a favorite but with the surprises of solving the mystery and meeting the characters for the first time.

City of Night is a solid urban fantasy that kept me engaged and reading.

This book was so good! I delayed writing a review because I really wanted to give this book the justice it deserves.

The name and general description seem to indicate this will be another PNR with reluctant heroine and sexy bad boy demon romance. Is that true? On the surface, sure, but this book is so much more. Cora has worked for some bad people doing bad things with her even worse powers because her mother sold her off when she was very young. When she finds a bookshop inheritance in New Orleans, she takes the opportunity as a way to escape and start a “real life.” Unfortunately for her, this life comes with a book shop that’s haunted, paranormal territories that require a certain level of obedience, and random folks getting nabbed off the street. It’s the last that finally pushes to many of Cora’s buttons and sends her back into hunting.

She finds a partner in the local demon leader, Talan. After a little fighting and arrogance, these two end up lighting the pages on fire. The more Cora fought, the more I was rooting for them to end up having some fun times together. Working together on the mysterious disappearances ends up being the push they both needed to get over themselves. It was fun to watch the unique blend of paranormal elements in this universe unfold and I absolutely cannot wait for another book in this series!

What a wonderful new series! Loved the kick-ass heroine and a reluctant hero. Cora thinks she's one of a kind in her ability to kill with a touch. Talan is hell-bent on protecting her. Together they must overcome formidable enemies to save two girls just like Cora who were kidnapped to be sold on a black magic market.
This is a fast-paced read and i wasn't able to put the book down until i finished it. Can't wait to see what's next for our heroes!

I've never read a book by Linsey Hall. However I absolutely will after completing this story. The magic is new the unwitting and unwilling lovers, maybe a story like that has been told but this is all in a new way with new locations and stories. Truly a fun read. Especially if you're a fan of Linsey Hall, you'll be looking forward to book two as well!

This wasn’t my first book by Linsey Hall, and it definitely won’t be my last. She does a great job of combining action/adventure and romance plots into a truly entertaining story. This book was definitely a slow burn, but there were enough hints of chemistry between the two main characters that the romance plot was never boring. The action/adventure storyline could’ve picked up speed a little earlier in the novel though as the first third of the book was a bit tedious.

The secondary characters were very enjoyable, especially Cora’s ghost and witch friends. Many of the characters had a lot of mystery surrounding them, and I’m looking forward to learning more in future books. While there are still a lot of loose ends, this novel didn’t end on a cliffhanger, which I liked. I’m excited to see the romance between Cora and Talan develop and to learn more about Cora’s powers/history, but I also left the book feeling moderately satisfied by its conclusion.

Overall, this was a fun, action-packed story with romance and solid world building. I highly recommend it.

*I received an ARC of this novel. This is my complete and honest review.*

Another absolute belter from Linsey Hall, she’s one of my go to authors for Paranormal Romance, I am always guaranteed a great read. This is addictive reading, you really get hooked and need to know what’s going to happen next. Linsey writes such amazing characters, strong leads who can think for themselves and if they get in a scrape don’t need rescuing, that doesn’t mean there’s not amazing leading, brooding men involved, just that they’re modern men. I love this so much and can’t wait for the next

There's so much more to the story and this book just teased readers by opening up a whole new world. New Orleans is one of my favorite cities and full of intrigue. When Cora is left a bookstore and apartment by her mother whom she did not know, she goes to investigate. She finds a paranormal community that is lorded over by Talen. Initially, Cora is drawn to him but definitely not a fan. The story grows when a young girl is kidnapped and Cora attempts to locate her. I loved how Cora reluctantly made friends and established herself in her new home. I can't wait for the next addition to what I hope will be a long series.

I loved this fun supernatural series. It is set in New Orleans with a slow burn romance that definitely fits the bill. I truly enjoyed this book and I’m excited to read the next book in the series! Perfect for young readers or anyone wanting a cleaner entertaining read!

Twisty paranormal mystery with many secrets and re herrings. Strong chemistry between the leads, but a clean read for a wide age range, likely good for the young adult crowd although 'human trafficking' and kidnapping involved.
