This is a feel good book embracing love and life in all its various beautiful forms . A story about life in 2023 where everyone should be free to have their love recognised, respected and celebrated. Grandfather and grandson both come out during a range of family events and the impact upon their lives reverberates within their families and communities. Their stories are heart felt and a beautiful read - this is a story that is perfect for anybody coming out ; yes, life isn’t a novel with happy endings and some of the events will be a lot darker in reality but the book gives hope- it’s a feel good novel about celebrating life and in a world of confusion and turmoil - every moment of happiness is to be grabbed . The Tv series can be imagined. Ryan Love has written a wonderfully joyous first book.

I'm not embarrassed to admit, that Arthur and Teddy Are Coming Out by Ryan Love had me in tears on more than one occasion. Don't worry, happy tears all around. Prepare yourself for a cosy and uplifting journey of self acceptance and a new fictional grandad you'll fall in love with from the very first chapter.

After nearly 80 years of being in the closet, Arthur can no longer live another day without being his true self. His family's reaction is mixed to say the least. They're understandably confused by his sudden omission. Love tackles both the positive and negative ramifications of coming out in a sensitive and thoughtful manner.

Arthur's grandson, Teddy, is also learning to embrace his sexuality. They are both beautifully written characters, both vulnerable and relatable in their own ways. You can't help falling in love with Teddy and Arthur. The two POVS weave perfectly throughout and the supporting cast of characters (especially Oscar and Madeleine) are expertly crafted.

This was wonderful and uplifting read that gave me all the warm fuzzy feelings.

An amicable and enjoyable read, Arthur and Teddy Are Coming Out allowed for easy reading, give or take a few chapters.

The eponymous characters, Arthur and Teddy spend the novel navigating life after coming out as gay and the reader learns the ups and downs, the prejudices and sterotypes of Northbridge, where the pair live.

All in all, this book took me on a journey and by the end I felt as if I knew the characters personally.

Really liked the idea — and I’m a known sucker for stories about grandparents —but I feel this book needed more editing to read smoother. It’s hard to stay immersed in the story when on the line level the text keeps throwing you off.

I have decided not to finish this one as I got to 50% and I was a bit bored. I loved the idea behind this one and normally uplifting stories like this warm my Heart but I think another edit to removed some of the parts that made this pacing so slow would do wonders for this.

I’d describe this book as realistic fiction. The author has done an amazing job of creating imaginary characters and situations that depict the world and society. The characters focus on themes of growing, self-discovery and confronting personal and social problems.

The E-Book could be improved and more user-friendly, such as links to the chapters, no significant gaps between words some text written has been typed in red and a cover for the book would be better. It is very document-like instead of a book. A star has been deducted because of this.

This is a first for me by the author and one I enjoyed and would read more of their work. The book cover is eye-catching and appealing and would spark my interest if in a bookshop. Thank you very much to the author, publisher and Netgalley for this ARC.

An inspirational and heartwarming read which as the title suggests follows Arthur and his grandson Teddy who are both coming out as gay. When Arthur comes out to his entire family, he is 79 years old. Whilst he has his wife Madeleine’s support, Teddy's mother (Arthur’s daughter) is furious with her Dad and embarrassed by his life choices. Teddy, who wants to come out as well, now faces a dilemma because of his mother’s reaction and has to figure out how to tell his family and other important people in his life that he too, is gay.

A really enjoyable read, one of love and acceptance. It's the ideal feel good read.

Thanks to NetGalley and HQ for the opportunity to read and review this ARC

Thank you Netgalley and publisher for providing me this advanced copy.

This book was so realistic and portray the real life of gay old man who finally coming out to their family. There were 2 POVs in this book, and Ryan Love really knew how to differ their characters. Sometimes when in multiple POVs books, we couldn't get any different character because it was still written by the same person, but Ryan Love didn't do that. They nailed it!!

Very recommended !!

Arthur and Teddy Are Coming Out is an uplifting novel telling the story of a man and his grandfather coming out as gay.

What I liked most about the book was that the characters were well fleshed out and the relationships were believable: the friendship between Teddy and Shakeel and of course the relationship between Teddy and Arthur as the duality of their coming out stories unfolds.

With a good mix of heartwarming moments and twists along the way, I think this would be a great pick for any fans of Heartstopper of those looking for a gratifying LGBT read. Looking forward to Book No.2!

This a feel good read nothing to tasking, it will brighten your day and make you smile. I loved the concept and idea but it was a bit predictable and didn’t really break the mould they I thought it would.

An enjoyable exploration of the experiences of coming out for two men from two different generations.

Really appreciated having both Ted and Arthur’s perspective and seeing their relationship with one another.

Very heartwarming.

This was so sweet it nearly gave me a toothache. Sure, it had all the tropes we've come to know very well, but I loved that - it was the perfect easy read when I was home sick and was so wonderfully heartwarming. I will definitely be reading more by this author, and I can very much see this becoming a comfort read!

"Arthur and Teddy Are Coming Out" is a perfect weekend read for those of you who would like a little slice-of-life novel that's as much about family as it is about coming out.
Arthur is Teddy's grandfather, and at the sound of age of 79 he decides to come out to his entire family and start living his life without this huge secret hanging on his shoulders. Little does he know that his decision to open up to the family will trigger a series of events that are sad, hopeful and beautiful all together.
The real strength of this book, however, is the absolutely warm relationship between Teddy and his grandfather, as well as Arthur's and his wife Madeleine, who is still by his side.
It was so refreshing having a story about an elderly queer person coming out, or even just centring around someone older, as queer books tend to focus on young adults.

A sweet tale of love and acceptance. Enjoyable and heartwarming, I did find it a little cliche and predictable in places and the ending a little confusing more than anything else. A really lovely premise so I would read another by the author

This book is very easy to read to the point where it’s a bit tedious. You know exactly what’s going to happen but I know some people find comfort in that, it’s just not what I wanted from this book. I liked the premise of it, of how Teddy & his grandpa both own their truths but I think all the other storylines were a bit irritatingly obvious.

This is a lovely and necessary read.

This novel is heartwarming, but shows us a brutal insight into what people face when they come out to loved ones.

Personally, I could not forgive some of the characters for their actions, and it disappointed me when they got their own happy endings despite acting harshly and without thought. The other characters, however, were relatable and loveable.

I’d definitely recommend this to people looking for a fantastic story and emotional writing.

As soon as i saw the attractive book cover I knew I wanted to read this. I then read the synopsis and thought - yes that's my jam! Who doesn't love a good LGBTQ book?

In essence the book is about a grandfather and his grandson "coming out" to their family. I enjoyed watching the interactions between the two MCs and loved that the author was exploring these types of situations.

Whilst there were parts I liked about the book, there were also things I didn't like.

RYAN LOVE – ARTHUR & TEDDY ARE COMING OUT ***

I read this novel in advance of publication through NetGalley in return for an honest review.

Gay myself, I had high hopes for this debut novel which is why I requested to review it. From the cute picture on the cover to the premise, this had to be a winner.

The story is great. Married for decades with grown-up children, Granddad Arthur comes out as gay in time for his 80th birthday party. Despite his wife’s support, his daughter rejects him. Which creates a problem for his grandson Teddy, her son, who wants to come out too. Into this mix is thrown an old flame of Arthur’s from before he married and Ben, a rival at the endpaper where Teddy works where they both vie for the same job. This made worse by his mother being a top reporter herself and having influence on the editor, which doesn’t go down well with Ben. This isn’t helped by Ben being gay and Teddy falling for him, after the obligatory animosity, and another of Teddy’s friends having feelings for him too. So, there are plenty of highs and lows for the characters, as well as a happy ending.

That said, the poor quality of the writing distracted me. I found it slapdash and lazy. If cliches were the woodworm in your house, it would have fallen by now, there are so many. Not only cliches but everyone beams at everyone else, or their eyes light up, and it gets bogged down under the weight of superfluous adverbs. Not wanting to be unkind, but a quick run through Pro Writing Aid would have improved this no end. It’s such a shame.

Able to come up with such a killer premise, and a lively story such as this, I very much look forward to reading Love’s next novel. But for the weight of cliches this would have got 4*.

This book found me at just the right time and I'm very thankful to it for really lifting my mood with the wonderful feelgood duel stroylines of a grandfather and his grandson.
I'm also a complete sucker for a late in life coming into your self and identity story arc, and this is exactly what you get from Arthur's story.

Arthur and Teddy and both at different stages in their lives, Teddy being in his early twenties and Arthur just turning eighty, but both are also in the early stages of coming out as gay and navigating their way around telling their family and other people in their lives and deciding what they want to do with their lives and how they want to live as gay men.

The book is just full of lovely characters and the central relationship of Arthur and Teddy is so heartwarming.

It's the perfect book if you want to lift your spirits and just be left with a lovely warm feeling when you've finished reading.

I thought this was absolutely lovely. A heartwarming tale of the coming out of both a grandfather and a grandson, this story crosses generations, and tells a compelling tale of both.
Whilst sweet and warming, it's not saccharine - and the realities of the situations are covered well - making me root for Arthur and Teddy even more!
