I'm not sure how I feel about this book. It didn't really grip me at all, but I'm not sure if that was just my mood, or because of the book.

I have read Lucy Clarke a few times and usually really like them, but this one just felt off somehow. Maybe it was there was nothing really in the story I felt connected with. The characters seemed a bit basic, like there was no depth to them.

Anyway, I would still read another my Lucy Clarke, not this one just didn't hit the spot for me

A gripping premise with plenty of atmospheric tension, but this one didn’t quite hit the mark for me. Lucy Clarke’s vivid descriptions of the remote, treacherous wilderness were excellent, and the sense of foreboding was palpable throughout. The friendships and secrets between the women added layers of intrigue, and the twists kept me turning the pages.

However, some of the characters felt a bit underdeveloped, which made it harder to fully connect with their struggles. The pacing also lagged in places, losing some of the story’s momentum.

This was an alright thriller. It kept me gripped and interested with some twists I wasn't expecting. It was also wildly unbelievable, which is fine I guess. I don't know if I'll remember it for long but I really loved the female friendship trope and how that their friendship survived quite a lot of adversity.

The story in emojis: 🏔️🗺️🧭

My Top 3 things from this book:
•Multiple POV
•Norway Setting
•Character Backstory

I had high hopes for this book after reading The Castaways and I was not disappointed as I absolutely loved it and didn’t want to put it down.

The alternating and multiple narration made for a gripping read that gave plenty of suspense and there was lots of red herrings to keep you on your toes.

You cannot go wrong with a destination set thriller and the Norwegian mounting setting created a very eerie atmosphere.

I really hope this book also gets made into a TV series!

Another great thriller from Lucy Clarke. This is my third of her books now and once again I couldn’t put it down.

Friendship and plenty of secrets revealed on a disastrous hike. Great twists and turns throughout the book.

The Hike was a good read. A group of friends set off for a holiday. I didn’t like all the characters and there were a few strange parts (the avalanche and the cave!) but it was a page turner!

Unfortunately I could not get into this book - other readers may enjoy it more. I did not finish it in the end

I didn't get into this book straight away but I persevered, because I am a big fan of Lucy Clarke's writing, and it paid off. I became absolutely gripped by this chilling and dark thriller - so much so, that I spent many a night staying up too late so that I could keep reading! It had me hooked and I'd highly recommend it.

Lucy Clarke really knows how to write an intense story filled with twists and turns. It was slow to start but it soon picked up and then I was on the edge of my seat. My favourite aspect was the setting as it was so perfect for the atmosphere of the story. The characters were also well developed and interesting. Overall, a great book.

I enjoyed this - the friendship between the characters and their complicated relationships, and the mystery at the heart of the novel, was enough to keep me turning the pages. I've recommended it to a lot of people and look forward to the next book by this author.

Another edge of your seat thriller from Lucy Clarke.
A lot of slow reveals and second guessing yourself.
I did find the characters a little whiny and annoying but will definitely be reading from this author again.

Thank you to Netgalley, the publisher and the author for an advanced copy of this book.

3.5 stars
Sadly this wasn't my favourite Lucy Clarke book.
It just felt a bit too slow and predictable for my liking.
I did like the setting but the ending ultimately felt rather rushed.
It was well written, however, it didn't have the kind of suspense I was hoping or looking for.
I will be keeping an eye out for what Lucy Clarke does next though, as this is the only book of hers that has been a bit of a miss for me.
Thank you to Netgalley for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This was a frustrating, yet very enjoyable read. I kept asking myself why on Earth these women were going on such a technical walk on their own. But let’s face it - this was all a huge part of the tension. Would they survive? I mean, everything is against them: from their lack of experience, to the weather.

I really think they should have stuck to their original plan of a beach holiday.

But boy did I enjoy this! The twists and turns made for an addictive, unputdownable read!

Thank you HarperCollins and NetGalley for this ARC.

Having read other books by Lucy, this was enjoyable, but not quite as good as previous books.
I would always recommend Lucy Clark but to me this was a little slow and a bit predictable.
I would have given 3.5 stars but couldn't hence the 3 stars. Sorry for me not 4!

This is a super gripping read, hugely atmospheric, you feel like you are on the mountain with the girls and you just can't see how they will get off....so you read another chapter....and another....and so on till the wee small hours!!

I have enjoyed Clarke's previous books, but found this one to be too implausible from the very start - the idea that four women with zero experience or training would go on such a challenging hike, and despite several warnings not to, just seemed too unbelievable. I thought the identity of the body introduced at the very start was immediately obvious and the red herrings and cliches were very unsubtle.

When three of the four women walked for nearly an hour without noticing one of their friends was no longer walking with them, I could no longer suspend disbelief and sadly ditched this.

Not my favourite of Lucy Clark’s releases but I did see the appeal nonetheless. Haven't read any other thrillers set in the mountains so that was a fun little addition to the plot.

Four friends are on a hiking trip and they find out that another young woman disappeared but something a lot more sinister is happening. I was constantly guessing throughout this book and I loved the characters and the atmosphere. A gripping mystery!
