Absolutely chock full of suspense! I could not put this one down. I adored the characters and their quirks. The atmosphere was so well done. Many sketchy seeming characters but you don’t know who is friend or foe till the bitter end. This is one of those books where you are sad when you hit the end as you hate to say goodbye to the characters.
Twisty and Turney throughout. Heart racing and jaw dropping moments culminate in an absolutely stunning finale.
A plus

I have read other novels by Lucy Clarke and have always found them amazing so when i found out there was a new book i was very interested. The overall description from the blurb and cover instantly got me excited as i love books set in the middle of nowhere and a cold setting.

The Hike is based in Norway where four friends Liz, Helena, Maggie and Joni have decided this year they are going on a hiking trail for their annual girl's holiday. They knew the trial was going to be hard but as soon as they start they come across many problems that get in the way. Overall i don't think they'd realise how much danger they'd be in as they find out where they are climbing another hiker Karin disappeared who shares a resemblance to Maggie but despite being warned to turn back amidst the upcoming weather forecast they decide to carry on.

The hike is full of unexpected events and the girls just can't catch a break, they all have inner problems they are trying to come to terms with, they have their own uniqueness and flaws which makes them human which makes it hard to just like one person.. in my opinion i really liked each girl and was hoping they all made it out alive and together.. they always stuck by each other even when they didn't agree with something.

The story has elements of survival, drama and mystery/suspense which kept me engrossed in finishing the book and also wondering what happened to the missing hiker Karin as it is mentioned in the beginning of the book. Told in different POV'S and has a good amount of twists and turns which keep you reading on.

An enjoyable fast paced read, perfect for readers who enjoy mystery settings. Thoroughly recommend it and can't wait to see in the future more of Lucy Clarke's novels.

Thank you to Netgalley and Harper Collins for the chance to read this ARC.

I have read some of this authors previous books and have enjoyed them, so when I saw this was coming out I was interested. Then I read the blurb and saw the word Norway and I was very interested!
When this started I have to admit I struggled to follow which character was which as it felt like they weren't very well defined and they did blur into one. Thankfully by the halfway point, as their individual backstories were revealed, it became a lot easier to follow. I did still however feel like they were very one dimensional, boring characters.
The plot did draw me in from the start and I was fully invested throughout and I enjoyed the writing style.
It was jam packed with tension, drama and a sense of foreboding.
I flew through this as it was an easy read, with thrills that kept me wanting to turn the page. I think this is my favourite book by this author so far and will definitely be reading her next book.

This is the third book I have read written by Lucy Clarke and I actually liked this book. Each of her books are based in somewhere and this rime the Hike is based in Norway. Four friends Liz, Maggie, Helena and Joni go on a hiking trail in Norway. The four friends learn that on the similar trail another girl named Karin disappeared and Karin looks like Maggie. The four friends suddenly becomes stranded in the trail.

I like the setting of the book. The descriptions of mountains and other sceneries made as a reader feel like you are in Norway with the characters, there’s a hint of suspense and the author manage to create an eerie suspense in the book. There wasn’t much twists or turns, the ending seemed to be harried but nonetheless I enjoyed reading this thriller much. Looking forward to read more books by Lucy Clarke

Worth four stars

Many thanks to NetGalley and Harper Collins for ARC. This review is based on my honest opinion only.

A Holiday of a lifetime, a killer on the trail.

A group of 4 childhood friends set off on their annual girly holiday. This year though the sun loungers and cocktails have been swapped for hiking books and rucksacks as they head to Norway to climb a mountain. Despite warnings from locals they set off on the hike but soon start to regret it.

I read this book in less than 24 hours. A story of friendship and survival which grips you from the start. Great scene setting too, I really felt like I was on the mountain with them. Big thanks to @netgalley for the opportunity to read this and good luck to the author on its release.

Having enjoyed all of Lucy Clarke’s previous thrillers, I was delighted to be granted an ARC of this, her latest book set in the Norway mountains. It is here that four women, friends since their school days, decide to go on a hiking trip. Liz hopes this endeavour will give her some respite from her crumbling marriage. Single mother Maggie, meanwhile, is anxious about the separation from her daughter, whereas well-known rock singer Joni is hoping to recover from severe stress. The fourth member of the group, Helena, has different motives altogether. The multiple time lines and different points of view means this novel demands a reader’s entire concentration, but you are rewarded with some stunning nature descriptions and a spectacularly growing sense of unease as the tension builds. Highly recommended, this is more than five-star read. Many thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for the ARC.

Wow. Lucy Clarke has done it again!

This book had it all: deceit, hatred & twists and turns.

I previously have ADORED Lucy’s writing, but this took it to a new universe. This crime read was unlike any I’ve ever read before. From start to finish, I was determined to piece the puzzle pieces together and work out what had happened, but I never did. The ending took me totally by surprise and absolutely entranced me.

I’m so pleased I’ve been to Norway. I’d think twice after reading this, outside of the amazing descriptions of the scenery. It really is that beautiful. I raced through this dark story of 4 friends in such a brilliant setting. Looking forward to what next from this versatile writer.

I’ve read several books by Lucy Clarke and having enjoyed them couldn’t wait to pick this one up!

The Hike follows four friends Maggie, Liz Helen and Joni as they go on their first hiking holiday to Norway for the annual holiday together. They knew it would be hard going but they sure weren’t expecting the events to unfold the way they did!

The book was a little slow to start especially the first 20% or so of the eBook. This is were we are introduced to the characters but after this point when the hike starts I couldn’t put the book down as I really wanted to know the fate of the four women.

I thought the book was well plotted and I loved the descriptions of the scenery, but I did find the overall plot predictable. I did would out the twists before they were revealed, also unlike previous books I was a little disappointed with the ending. It felt a little rushed and a little bit of a let-down especially after intense build up.

The characters were well done they had their own flaws and I didn’t particularly find them likeable but I did want them to survive.

Overall a good read but not quite to the same standards as her previous books. Saying that I haven’t been put of reading more from Lucy and can’t wait to see what she writes next!

I read The Hike quickly as it flowed so well and I couldn’t put it down. I often felt I was there with the four friends, the descriptions of the landscape were so vivid. And I’m sure I have blisters! I really felt for the friends on the mountain. So much goes wrong, which makes it a tense, pacy read. I bet they were wishing they’d gone on their usual beach holiday. There’s so much to enjoy in this thriller and what an ending! I’m glad I read it and I certainly won’t be choosing to go on a hiking holiday anytime soon. Entertaining and compelling!

Firstly, thank you to NetGalley and Harper Collins UK.

Lucy Clarke is one of my favourite authors, and this book was no exception. I really enjoyed the setting in Norway, and distinct roles each friend played.

Whilst the book started off slow, within the last 100 pages I could not put the book down. It was amazing! I will rave about this book to all my friends this summer.

This is my favourite Lucy Clarke book yet! It is both a gripping thriller and a tale of friendship and womanhood.

Four friends plan a holiday as they do every year. This year however instead of a beach trip Liz convinces them to go on a hike!

The trip is full of unexpected events, some good, some tragic. But through it all the women learn about themselves and about each other.

A gripping read that will keep you guessing as no one is quite all they seem. But also a heart warming, gritty tale of friendship.

A very enjoyable book. Four friends go on a challenging hike in Norway. All of them have problems that they need to come to terms with, but, they encounter more life challenging ones on the hike. The story moves briskly with the characters of each woman showing different strengths and weaknesses. I read the book quite quickly as I kept wanting to know more of the story.

The Hike is the latest standalone psychological thriller by author, Lucy Clarke. Described as the Queen of destination thrillers this one is no exception. The story follows four friends; Jodi, Maggie, Liz and Helena on a hiking trip where you just know something deadly is going to happen. Told in multiple POV and interspersed with different timelines, what unfolds is a complex, deep and page-turning thriller which you won’t want to put down. Each of the characters are unique, layered and have their own personalities, ambitions and flaws which makes it difficult to choose just one to like. The story combines elements of survivalist, mystery and drama together to create a fast-paced story that will keep you guessing until the end. The threads of the story are woven together delivering unique and fresh twists and reveals which don’t disappoint. Overall, I really enjoyed this one and will look out for more by this author. Thank you to the author, publisher and Netgalley for an arc.

This tale about four English friends hiking in a remote mountainous area of Norway is a good read as it explores friendship and describes hiking extremely well. The twist in the end is well written. Recommended - especially to anyone who enjoys walking/hiking.

Thank you to the author, publishers HarperCollins and NetGalley UK for access to this as an advance reader’s ebook. This is an honest and voluntary review.

An easy-to-read, pacey thriller.

Liz, Helen, Maggie and Joni were best friends growing up. Their lives have taken different paths, but they still get together on an annual holiday. This year Liz has something more challenging in mind than their usual beachside lounging. They’re taking on a Norwegian mountain on a hike with more challenges than the ones nature provides.

It’s difficult to figure out why this is better than the many other novels out there which employ the same tropes of old friends coming together again for a holiday in a remote location where old secrets and tensions come to life and new challenges face them.

Even the basic characters of the four women are those which have featured time and time again.

There’s the well-balanced one who seems to have it all with their career and family life.

The independent one whose career is their focus, and who never wanted a family although that might be changing.

The new mum away from her child for the very first time and anxious about it.

The different one who is least in contact with the rest because fame, wealth or both has them moving in different circles.

And, yet something in the way Lucy Clarke pulls these tropes together makes them engaging and interesting in a way many other authors fail to do.

The Hike is yet another example, creating an enjoyable, fast-paced read, perfect for anyone looking for a thriller that doesn’t drag for a second.

The Hike is a slow burn of a thriller. Four school friends meet up for their annual getaway, choosing to hike the rugged wilderness of Norway rather than a sunny beach resort. I loved the setting, the Norwegian landscape was described well. However, I disliked the four female characters nd the ending was disappointing.

A brilliantly written thriller, it kept me reading that’s for sure.
Four old friends taking their annual break together. Liz, Helena, Maggie and Joni.
It was Liz’s turn to choose the location and she chose a hike into the Norwegian mountains.
I felt like I was there, very atmospheric with beautiful scenery.
We learned about each main character as we went along, and a few others we met along the way.
Fabulous and I thoroughly recommend it.
Many thanks to Harper Collins and NetGalley for the chance to read an early copy, in which I give my honest opinion.

Four longtime friends go away on a hiking trip to Norway, but what starts out as a fun girls trip quickly takes a turn and they come across a lot of problems across the hike.
This was a really decent survival/adventure story, I sometimes feel this type of genre can be more scary than a thriller as you can see how easily things can go wrong and it had me on the edge of my seat and worried about the outcome for the four ladies.
I liked the story being told by the four different perspectives and the only thing that fell short for me was the ending I really not sure how I felt about it and also towards the end there was a particular phrase that was very overused.

Thank you to NetGalley and HarperCollins UK for the chance to read this ARC.
