I absolutely loved this book second one I have read by this author & this one was just as good if not better. Well written, enjoyed the characters & twisty plot.

Am a huge Lucy Clarke fan - she's my favourite author. A joy to read another of her thrilling, absorbing stories. Always a great sense of place, I felt truly immersed within the Norwegian mountains. Distinct characters, with their own voice and story and soul. Some good twists, and pacey tension throughout.

I loved this. A real page turner. A group of women walking a mountain trail. A missing woman. A whole bunch of scary situations. Brilliant.
I also thought that the twists were good. Some were expected but that threw me off some of the others.
I really like the way that the story just gets moving. There was enough background to understand the characters but it was a nice quick read.

The Hike by Lucky Clarke asks the question, what happens when four friends decide to set off for a four-day hike in Norway? Keep in mind these are not experienced hikers, just some women who want to get away from the stress of day-to-day life.
Each woman is battling something and hopes the trip will clear their mind and give them answers.
Of course, it’s not smooth sailing, they head directly into a storm, stumble upon a stash of cocaine and meet some men who may or may not have nefarious intentions.
It was a good read, not my favorite of the authors, but towards the end, I was reading quickly, trying to figure out what was happening, who was the bad guy, and who we could trust. I think the second part of the book moved faster than the first.
The author creates atmospheric tension and I closed the book knowing one thing for certain- I will not be going on any four-day hikes in Norway anytime soon.
Coming out in April.

Quite simply, I loved this book and it’s probably my favourite of the year so far. I was hooked from the start and before I knew it I was over half way through. It follows the story of four friends: capable, reliable and organised Liz; single mum Maggie; single Helena and Joni a successful singer in a band. They go away together every year and this year Liz has shunned the Sandy beaches and warm seas for a hiking holiday in Norway. It’s a fairytale setting with log cabins and forests but all too soon they find themselves caught up in a nightmare. It’s a tense and gripping novel. There are secrets a plenty and just when you think there can’t be more, another one is revealed. I flew through this book, eager to find out the conclusion and totally immersed myself into the novel. Highly recommended. Thank you to NetGalley, Harper Collins UK, Harper Fiction and the author for the chance to review.

One of the best books I’ve read this year. The stage is set for the thrill of a fantastic read right from the start. The descriptions of the location almost make me want to go there. I say almost because, y’know, killer on the loose and all that, lol.
I love hiking and exploring new areas, but the plot makes me wary of going solo.
A great read. Highly recommended.

One of the girls was among my favourite books last year so I was really excited about this one - a paradise gone wrong thriller set in the scenic locales of the mountains of Norway.
Liz, Helena, Maggie and Joni have been friends from their school days and they have an annual ritual of meeting up for a holiday and spending time properly catching up with each other. This year, Liz got to choose and she decided that they would go on a hike in the picturesque Norway mountains. With her marriage floundering,Liz wants this change badly and coerces the other three who are reluctant to do something so different from their usual pool holidays. Helena, grappling with a huge life change she isn't sure about, Maggie,a single mother who is anxious and guilty about leaving her daughter behind and Joni,a jetsetting rock star who is dealing with severe burnout, are unsure about their ability to live rough and take their doubts with them on the trip.
As soon as they arrive at the mountain lodge and discuss the hike, there is a feeling of unease and of something not quite right in the atmosphere. When they set off and things start to go wrong, long held secrets and resentments are added to the mix of troubles they find themselves in with rough terrain, icy winds, dangerous trails and bad weather making the hike tougher than they could have imagined.
We as readers know something the friends don't and as their desperate attempts to survive alternates with the reports of a woman's body being found at the base of the mountain and the aftermath of this news, the tension builds up more.
I liked the way every scene that revealed something as yet unknown seemed like the one that would connect the alternate story. Some cliff hangers are very cleverly written so that you assume you know what happened until you read on and figure out the author has something else in mind!
The combination of a long friendship that means a lot of positive and negative feelings and the treachery of the hike made for a great story. Some of the problems the friends faced could be put down to inexperience and I also wondered if they or anyone really should be traveling alone in such conditions!
The end was a little bit of a letdown after such a brilliant build up but that could be me expecting too much because this is a favourite genre of mine and no amount of unexpected twists is ever enough!
Overall I enjoyed this book and the way the story was told. Definitely recommend for thriller lovers who like adventure to be a part of their reads!
Thanks to Netgalley and HarperCollins UK for the ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I had high hopes for this book as I was obsessed with one of the author’s previous books. However, it left me really disappointed. For some reason, the story didn’t flow well- it felt disjointed. The ending seemed rushed and lacked tension.

Thank you to Harpercollins for this ARC copy in exchange for an honest review on Netgalley.
I throughly enjoyed this book! I was very excited to read this one as I own another of Lucy Clarke’s books and have heard great things about it. It was full of suspense and left with me with a very uneasy feeling not knowing what was going to happen. If anyone ever asks me to go and hike up a mountain I’ll definitely run the other way 😂
I loved the picturesque setting of the book, the characters, all so different personalities from eachother and the plot! I felt so nervous and uneasy for them. I will definitely be recommending this book, it was a great read and was very easy to read, I found myself waiting to have time to read it again. The style of writing drew me in.
I would give this book a 4.5 ⭐️ rating.

This book was a real page turner. The characters were deep and complex without getting confusing. The ending felt like it was tied a little too neatly into a bow but that’s my only minor nitpick.

I absolutely loved this book .Each of the women brought a different dynamic to the group & the plot. You could feel the tension & the fear as the story progressed & the love that the women had for each other. This is a brilliantly written book that will get you gripped to the very last page

Brilliant book, an eerie but lovely setting, thrilling and fast paced plot with an atmospheric and realistic narrative.
I liked the characters, each brought something to the story, brought it to life.
I was surprised the trail and mountain were fictitious, it all seemed so real.
I’ll definitely read more by this author.

I was thrilled to hear Lucy Clarke had written another book, and was very excited to be offered an arc from NetGalley. I was not disappointed with The Hike. Four friends. Liz, Joni, Helena and Maggie set off on a hiking holiday to Norway. The story follows them as they set off on their hike up a difficult mountain and the story of the lives they have left behind are interspersed with the progress of the hike.
Two brothers, Lief, who runs the lodge at the starting point for hiking, and Erik appear throughout the story.. A sinister feeling flows in the background, from the disappearance of a girl, to a feeling that the four are being watched. There are several exciting episodes and twists, all of which kept me turning the pages and trying unsuccessfully to guess the ending.
I found The Hike and easy, exciting book and enjoyed it very much. Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for sending me a copy of this book.

Wow! Four friends go on a hike in Norway as a reunion holiday. We have shady characters, bad weather and drugs! I loved how each girl's story comes to light and how it impacts on the others. I liked the non stop drama and I can imagine this put on screen.
Very enjoyable, one not to be missed.

I really loved one of the girls, bt didn't love the castaways so wasn't sure if I'd enjoy this, but right from the get go I was hooked -I wanted to know more about the group of friends and why certain friendships had broken down, I was NOT expecting it to end quite how it did, but really enjoyed it and now definitely do not want to hike up any mountains, or enter any suspicious looking caves.

Four friends go for a hike in Norway but not everything is as it seems. An enjoyable read. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for letting me review this book.

Couldn't put this down... absolutely brilliant read. Very well written and kept me on the edge of my seat, wondering what could possibly happen next. Three friends, Helena, Liz and Maggie embark on an adventurous hike...and are surprised to be joined by their crazy music star friend Joni. They set off to a retreat, where they hope to chill and then go on a bit of a wilderness hike...
Secrets, lies and other people's pasts and a glorious mix of intrigue make for a real rollercoaster ride that will keep you guessing right until the end.
I loved it. Highly recommend

Overall, reading The Hike was fine. I feel the theme of an old group of friends in a remote location has become somewhat overdone though.

Lucy Clarke’s latest book dances along the knife edge of psychological suspense into the depths of a dark and desolate wilderness within the Norwegian landscape.
The four main characters are fierce, secretive and they have their own agendas. What I loved most about them was their powerhouse unit - when it was needed the most. Despite their differences, their physical and emotional distance, the hike does bring them together in as many ways as it tears them apart…
The hike is ugly, raw and beautiful all at the same time. The slow burn of suspense and tension builds nicely through the first half with enough to give underlying fear and an edge. The isolation and wilderness of the hike clashes with the claustrophobia of not quite being alone to create a wonderfully atmospheric novel that you won’t be able to put down.
Lucy is the queen of destination thrillers and you always know that wherever she goes within the pages of her book, she’s been and seen it for herself as much as possible, minus the murdery bits. Lucy’s books come alive because of her dedication to setting the scene. And perhaps the loveliest surprise within this dark story is that she brings it all home right at the end.

This is another great psychological thriller by Lucy Clarke. As with her other books, she is able to make the reader feel like they are actually in the location of where the book has been set. It’s atmospheric and deliciously dark.
The writing is fast paced, intriguing and develops well.
This is a fantastic read and one that I’d recommend.
