This was an enjoyable read but not quite as good as Lucy Clark’s previous offerings. I would always recommend Lucy Clark but felt a bit slow and a bit predictable.
The Hike takes on four friends; Joni, Liz, Maggie and Helen. Four best friends on a trip of a lifetime to hike up a Norwegian mountain, like friends do.

I really enjoyed this. I have read Lucy Clarke before and new it was likely to be good.
Something a bit different, with an unusual setting.
Great characters and plenty of surprises and twists along the way.

A perfectly good thriller however it feels like this theme has been done to death recently (pardon the pun). Most of the characters were annoyingly flawed and the ending was slightly rushed.

A good read
Interesting characters
Set in beautiful surroundings
With a huge twist
Thanks NetGalley

The atmosphere! Prepare to be transported straight into Norwegian wildernesses. Trees turning orange and red, mountain hikes, hot tea from the flask to warm you up. Possibly some mulled wine 😂
Oh, and don't forget weird men following you while you're camping in the forest. 😂
Another great read this Autumn. I could get used to that!
"The Hike" will make you worried, scared and shivering. Yet... It's kind of a cosy read. Don't ask me why. Must be the effect of ❄ 😂
I got this book aproved on Netgalley long time ago. I was so excited! Then... I forgot about it and when I remembered, it was already archived.
Very conviniently, I found the paperback in WHSmith and it was half price. I mean... It's like saving money, so I had to buy it! 😂
I really enjoyed reading "The Hike".
The friendship between the main characters was heartwarming, even though it clearly wasn't all unicorns and rainbows.
I don't regret a penny. It was a great read, full od suspense and tension. I couldn't put it down and the ending was so satisfing.
Highly recommended!

I chose to read and review a free eARC of The Hike but that has in no way influenced my review.
Lucy Clarke has rapidly become a 'must read' author for me. I thoroughly enjoyed The Castaways when I read it in 2021 and One of the Girls was one of my top books of 2022. So I was giddy with excitement to get my hands on an early copy of The Hike which was released in hardcover earlier this year and paperback more recently. If you're a fan of destination thrillers with beautiful, exotic settings that bite back, then I urge you to pick up a Lucy Clarke thriller. Same goes if you love a strong, multi-layered character. As not only is Clarke a master of setting, she knows how to write truly fascinating characters who will draw you into their world.
Liz, Helena, Maggie and Joni are four women who have been friends forever. But they now lead very different lives with different demands on their time. So every year the four women leave their day to day lives behind and go away together. This year it's Liz's decision where they go and the other women are distraught when capable, responsible, GP Liz chooses to hike in the Norwegian mountains. For the other women it sounds like hell on earth who would have much preferred to lounge on a sandy beach drinking cocktails. Unprepared for what lays ahead, the four friends make a shaky start on the trail. And they soon realise that the Norwegian wilderness has a much darker, deadlier side to it than they ever imagined...
The Hike is a gripping, character-driven thriller chockful of suspense and foreboding with a wonderful sense of place. The four lead female characters are all so different and beautifully drawn. They all have a secret they're desperate to keep from the others and as the trip progresses, nerves start to fray and tensions build. Their patience with each other starts to wear thin. Clarke writes her four protagonists so very well and I thoroughly enjoyed spending time with them (even when they were snipping and snapping at each!).
Would I recommend this book? I would, yes. The Hike is a highly readable survival thriller with a superbly written cast of characters, a vivid setting and a well-paced plot. I found myself fully invested in the story, keen to discover how the trip was going to turn out for these four women and whether they would make it to the end in one piece. And if they did make it to the end, would they ever speak to each ever again? The ending fell a little flat for me but it didn't spoil my overall enjoyment of this cracking book. Full of well-written drama, interesting female relationships, lots of unexpected twists and turns, an overarching sense of impending doom which builds really nicely over the course of the book, all set in the most spectacular of settings and conveyed to the reader expertly by the author. Lucy Clarke remains a favourite author of mine and I cannot wait to see what she has for us readers next. Recommended.
I chose to read and review a free eARC of The Hike. The above review is my own unbiased opinion.

Lucy Clarke has bloody gone and done it again. It is a gripping and turbulent read, which left me on absolute tender hooks. The twists in this left me shook. Couldn't put it down!

Another excellent, suspenseful book from Lucy Clarke - I really like how she depicts these groups of women whose outward relationships hide a multitude of secrets. In this instance this is set against the beautiful Norwegian scenery in where mystery and dark forces also await!

** I received this book as an eARC in exchange for an honest review **
The Hike was ok. It was enjoyable if anything and a quick read. I would definitely recommend Lucy Clark, over and over and over again, but not for The Hike. This felt a little rushed and didn't feel like her best work, which pains me to say.
The Hike takes on four friends; Joni, Liz, Maggie and Helen. Four best friends on a trip of a lifetime to hike up a Norwegian mountain, like friends do.
The Hike took twists and turns which were well written, yet predictable. I am not saying this wasn't a good book, it was a fabulous book, it was just the same form of story line I've read before. This is a perfect entry into thriller. It did take 35% for the book to start 'the hike' and 65% before I felt like anything happened.
I am quite confused as to whether I enjoyed this or not. Good book, but I've read better.
Lucy Clarke will always be an auto-buy author me, she's amazing. A true Queen of Destination Thrillers.

*4.5 stars. Firstly, I'd like to thank Harper Collins UK and Netgalley for an eARC for an honest review. I'd also like to thank Tandem Collective UK for the gifted paperback as part of their readalong which I throughly enjoyed being apart of.
I'm so annoyed that I had to work so much while reading this book! It took me so much longer to read because I just didn't have the time or I was just exhausted. I wanted to devour it. Clarke has become one of my favourite thriller/murder mystery writers. I've now read her three most recent books and have loved them all. Clarke creates such beautiful settings - the Norwegian Wild was described beautifully and what a great setting to create tension and fear. I'm envious of the research hiking that Clarke did for this book. All the side characters and 'suspects' just added to the experience and Clarke kept me guessing until the very end - I really thought I was right so much of the time to only be proven wrong at each turn.
The four female main characters with all their individual POVs were great to get to know. I enjoyed assessing each of them and what I liked and disliked about each of them (I judged Joni very harshly, no regrets). My favourite out of the four has to be Helena who at first I didn't think much of but soon fell in love with her honesty and her truth. I really enjoyed the Tandem Collective UK reading cards because I loved being able to talk about and discuss how I'm feeling as I read through the book.
I'm excited to read more from Lucy Clarke and will have to get started on her backlist which the Libby app has a couple of. I'd recommend this book to any murder mystery/thriller readers and also anyone that wants to get into the genre. You can find all my thoughts in my 'The Hike' highlight on my IG page.

I really enjoyed this thriller in an amazing setting. It started slowly but really picked up pace at the half way point & kept me guessing.

I was instantly drawn to this book, loving hiking and the outdoors myself - and I have to say, the writing really set the scene brilliantly. I could really see the journey our four friends took out towards Blafjell. Each of the characters was well developed and by the end of the book I was truly invested in each of their stories.
However, despite the amazing characters and setting, I felt that the plot of the book lacked depth. The twist did keep me guessing however I didn't find myself overly bothered by the reveal at the end which was a shame.
Overall a fun book but it doesn't quite live up to some of the authors previous books in my opinion.

So I normally love a Lucy Clarke story and just devour them, this one was a real slow burn for me and it took me a while to get into it and I read it over several weeks. But once I got half way through it kicked in and got really interesting and then I finished it in one session. I was just so intrigued.
I was given a free copy by netgalley and the publishers but the review is entirely my own.

This was an absolutely fantastic read and I’m so grateful to have been given an ARC to rad of this! It kept me up at night until I could finish it.
Very atmospheric - I really felt like I was on the home with the characters.
I remain a huge fan of the author’s and will read anything she writes.

My thanks to NetGalley and Harper Collins UK for a copy of “The Hike” for an honest review.
I really loved Lucy Clarke’s previous book “The Castaways” so I was eager to read this one.
Unfortunately it didn’t grab me.I kept reading hoping I would become more engaged with the story , and the characters , but I didn’t.
For me it was an average read , but it lacked suspense
As I enjoyed her other book , I will still want to read the next published, hoping that it will be as enjoyable as the first.

Lucy did not disappoint in this book again, I loved her One of the girls. She's always so good in setting the scene and pulling you into the book. It made me feel like I was right alongside the characters as I went through this thrilling ride with them. What I really enjoy is that you start reading, and you're completely in the dark about who the victim is, and there are all these different storylines that eventually connect to that moment. And then, just when you think you've got it all figured out, boom, you're hit with a totally unexpected twist that makes all the puzzle pieces snap together perfectly. It's like savoring a tasty story treat!

This is my third Lucy Clarke book and it did not disappoint. I love how when reading you have no idea who the body is and there are various threads to the story that leads up to this point. You then are dealt with an alternative truth which just ensures that all the piece's of the puzzle fall into place. A delicious story to devour.
Thank you to Netgalley for the copy.

An easy read thriller in a gorgeous setting. Not my favourite of the authors books as I didn't really connect with any of the characters & I felt it was missing a major plot twist, but still an enjoyable read!

I really enjoyed this high action thriller which kept me guessing until the end. The setting was great and really helped set the tone!

3.5
I enjoyed this nook but it isn't my favourite by this author. I enjoyed the group dynamics and the characterisation and I also enjoyed the remote setting. I did find some part of it a little bit predictable and I didn't particularly enjoy the ending but it still had many good thrills and surprises and is definitely worth a read.
