After reading one of the girls I was very keen to read another book by Lucy Clarke and this sounded like it was definitely going to be one worth picking up.
I think this was such a good thriller! It had me on the edge of my seat in suspense and really gave me chills. The characters were likeable, the twists were good and I think the setting was amazing! Would definitely recommend!

When four friends decide to go on a hike in Norway, they definitely didn't know that not everyone would return alive. It appears everyone is hiding things, some are even reluctant to go. A fast paced read that will get your interest and you won't be able to put it down.

A fantastic atmospheric read. I loved the descriptions of the mountains and the main characters were strong. This had many twists and turns.

Who knew wilderness hiking in the gorgeous Norwegian mountains could be so utterly treacherous.

And not just for the conditions, but also for a hidden dark side to them.

Liz and her friends go on holiday once a year together, taking it in turns to pick the destination. And this time Liz has opted away from a beach holiday to the slight horror of the others.

I loved getting to know all of the friends, and their circumstances,

But above all what hoked me were the descriptions of the terrain they were walking on, of how it mad e them feel and just the whole hike in general

I didn't predict any of it, and it kept me enthralled from the first to last page, and I was so engaged with the story that I lost track of the time and a barman actually had to make sure I left the bar as it was closing time, but I hadn't noticed anyone else emptying out around me!

I read this in a few short hours in one sitting and you couldn't have parted me from the story if you tried.

It's another incredibly gripping story from Lucy Clarke.

Thank you to HarperCollins and Netgalley for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

Having read a previous book by this author, I was interested to try this. It was a reasonable read, but really far too far fetched for me. The idea of someone going up a big mountain in a pair of short shorts and a crop top was just too silly. I really found the idea of the four of them going on such a project without any experience was just impossible that they could even think of attempting it. Better to stick to the beach and cocktails I felt.
It did feel rather a stereotypical girly read, but one to suspend disbelief too much.

Exactly what you’d expect from Lucy Clarke. A fast paced read that was perfect for reading on holiday by the pool. An unexpected twist at the end.

This is the first book I’ve read by Lucy Clarke, so I went in not knowing what to expect. But she did not disappoint.

The book was gripping from the start - I really liked how there was complexity to each character from the very start, when they were still at home with their respective families / lack thereof.

I never expected the twist when Joni revealed that shocking secret and it broke my heart for them all when Joni chose to be the sacrifice for the other 3.
Clarke masterfully intertwined the beauty of friendship with death and struggles, something which is not easily done this well.

I’m really looking forward to reading her other books now!

Liz, Helena, Maggie and Joni are close friends who meet up every year for a weekend getaway. This year it is different as the plan is to do a mountain hike in Norway rather than the usual beach holiday.

What's that noise? Oh yes I can hear alarm bells ringing as you know something will go wrong.

I was completely hooked from the first page and enjoyed all the twists and turns that make this an unforgettable read.

The book draws you in from the first chapter with the discovery of the body of a young woman in the mountains and we don’t find who she was until the end of the book, it is a story of four women Helena, Maggie, Liz and Joni. They have been close friends since they were teenagers and every year they go on holiday together. They usually chill on a beach but this year they are going hiking up a mountain in a Norway. We learn about all their complicated relationships with each other and the problems in their lives. Each one has a distinctive personality and soon the cracks start to appear as secrets and lies are revealed. The Hike is full of drama, suspense and tension which makes it an enjoyable read.
Thanks to Netgalley and Harper Collins for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book,

Great thriller that kept you on your toes needing more from each chapter. Well written and I didn't predict anything.

I’ll begin by saying I requested this book as I really enjoyed The Castaways. I love isolated thrillers so this sounded like the perfect read. A bunch of friends go on a trip to Norway to climb a mountain and we are told the story bit by but by each character. I really struggled to tell the difference between Helena and Maggie. The only 2 I could tell the difference between was Joanie and Liz/Liv (sorry I got the audiobook to tandem read so not 100% on the names). The plot was a bit dull. I was hoping for one of them to die and it to be a bit of a whodunnit or a serial killer tormenting them in the wilderness. This is not what this book was. I’m sure many would enjoy it but I didn’t find it very thrilling. Very readable but just not what I was wanting.

I love Lucy Clarke's writing so was eagerly anticipating this release and I'm so pleased to say that it didn't disappoint. I love novels that explore female friendships and the complexities that can sometimes come with long-term friendships that have undergone changes along the way. This novel is about the women going on a hike when perhaps they shouldn't have and all the things that go wrong - with the hike itself and within their group. Alongside this we see another timeline where a woman is missing and it's not clear who is missing or what happened so there is a lot of intrigue and reasons to keep turning the pages of this one. I was gripped from start to finish and definitely recommend this one!

I enjoyed reading this crime thriller, which was fast paced and exciting.

The story is about four friends called Helena, Maggie, Liz and Joni, who have known each other for a long time. They go on holiday every year together, and this year they are hiking in Norway and they climb a mountain called Blafjell. Of course, something bad is going to happen, and the atmosphere of the story soon becomes tense, frightening and full of suspense.

I really liked the setting of the book and learning more about hiking. The characters were interesting, and the plot was enjoyable, with a lot of layers to explore. Highly recommended!

Many thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for a copy of this book.

What a fab book! Not the sort of thing I normally read but I'm so glad I did. The story follows 4 long term friends who challenge themselves to hike through the Norwegian mountains during their annual holiday together. The trip doesn't exactly go as planned, especially as they are all harbouring their own secrets, despite the fact that they have been friends for so long and got each other through so many up & downs in their lives. It was a real page turner, with so many twists and turns - I was never sure what was going to happen next!

A great story, which I would highly recommend and I'm certainly going to look out for other books by Lucy Clarke.

Thank you to Net Galley and the publishers for allowing me to read this in exchange for an honest review, which is what I have given.

I found The Hike to be an OK read. The setting and description of it was breathtaking and very atmospheric but I really did not like the four friends as they were so stereotypical and the story never gripped me like I hoped it would.

When four friends, who have known each other since school, visit Norway on their annual reunion holiday to complete a challenging mountain hike, each has a very different reason for doing so.

Our main characters are single mum Maggie, musician Joni, city girl Helena and Liz, a doctor and this year's organiser of the holiday; all had very distinct personalities and voices which helped a lot, as there are quite a few characters in this book to keep track of. The story is told from multiple points of view, keeping interest and providing the reader with information that other characters may not be aware of.

Before the ladies set off, several of the locals warn them against it, for various reasons - the weather, myths and legends, but more importantly, someone (who looks identical to Maggie) went missing on the same trail the year previously.
And once they're on the mountain... is someone following them? And why?

The storyline was full of secrets, lies and twists, it was immersive and set the scene beautifully, I felt like I could picture the mountain.
As always, looking forward to reading more from Lucy Clarke!
