I read One Of The Girls by Lucy Clarke last year and absolutely loved it so I was excited to dive into The Hike.

It was a fast enjoyable read but I wasn't as big a fan of the setting. However this demonstrated again how great Lucy Clarke is at character work. All of the 4 women on the hike had a very definitive voice and intriguing backstory of their own. I will definitely pick up all her books in the future for that reason.

I was disappointed with the book, after being excited to read it. I found it slow and a bit dull. Sadly, I couldn't finish it

I absolutely adored this edge of your seat thriller by Lucy. I loved how it slowly build and unfolded as each page turned and I couldn’t put it down and ended up finishing it in the early hours of the morning. A must read for any thriller lover.

As recommended as always!

An excellent thriller, I was utterly engrossed in the plot and finding out where this was going.
The tension that is built during the beginning of the book is fantastic, so much so, that you have that real sense of dread at what is to come, which makes this a gripping read.
Add to that the complicated relationships between the best friends, this book is interesting and intricate from the start, keeping you reading and intrigued as to where the story will take you.
I absolutely loved that I didn't guess the outcome, it was a great suprise to learn where the book was going. A fabulous, tense thriller, I absolutely loved it!

Thank you NetGalley for my advance copy of this book. I’m a huge Lucy Clarke fan and this one didn’t disappoint. It was a thrilling page turner which I didn’t want to put down. Really enjoyed reading the story from multiple perspectives and how it kept you guessing throughout. Definitely recommend.

Thank you to netgalley, the publish and the author for the opportunity to read this ARC in return for an honest review.

I feel a little sad to write this review because I normally enjoy a Lucy Clarke novel. But I was over a third of the way through the book before I felt we even really started the actual story and two thirds of the way through before anything actually really happened. There’s a lot of plot development, particularly about the main characters. And a lot of this information was actually overall irrelevant to the story itself. For me, it would have been more helpful to learn a bit more about the Norwegian folk. Especially with their involvement in the end of the book. I felt I was less knowing who was who by the end. I felt like the author wasn’t sure of her ending so she through everything at it (attempting to avoid spoilers). So yea…just a little lacking. Fine but not great.

This was a great thriller. Likeable characters easy to read and exciting. Ran through it in an afternoon

A brilliant read. Finished it in two days. A gripping tale of four friends who go on a hike in Norway and all the events that happen on their Journey. They all gave baggage from their lives. Definitely a holiday read.

Helena, Maggie, Liz and Joni have been best friends like forever. This years annual holiday is to go hiking in Norway and climb Blafjell mountain. Things however will start to go all wrong.

I enjoyed The Castaways by Lucy Clarke very much so that I really wanted to read The Hike. This book I enjoyed but not as much as The Castaways.

The story I felt was a little slow, but was getting settled in with the four women. Each chapter is told in turn by all the women so their own stories are heard.

As the story progressed then it picked up. Not quite a locked room mystery but I got that sense of feeling. As the women get further into the hike then the plot picks up and this is when the tension does begin to build.

The end of the book when everything comes to light then for me again enters I to thrillerland. A lot happens at the end and very quickly, maybe a little over the top.

Second book now I've read by the author and having enjoyed both I would certainly read more by the author.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for a copy to review.

I kept this one on my TBR specifically to read when I was on holiday this year. I’m just back from a trip that included Norway - where The Hike is set. This year must be the year for books about friendship reunions because this is the third or fourth book with a group of friends at the centre. In this one we have four friends who go on an annual trip together and this year the choice is to go hiking in Norway.

Each character is so different, and going through something different in their life i.e. a marriage breakdown, an unexpected pregnancy so the trip is a chance to escape from all of that however there is a lot of animosity between each of the friends along the way which seems to have pent up over a period of time. This angsty tension coupled with curious characters from the trail lodge adds to the overall tense atmosphere in this read.

I had no idea how this was going to work out. There’s a prologue which is explained and there’s also a slightly different timeline going on for another character and it’s difficult to piece together exactly what’s going to happen. I didn’t expect the twist though so I guess that’s how you know you’re onto a thriller winner!

The beginning of this book goes about introducing 4 main characters and setting the scene for the story, thought out the book there is alot of mystery and tension, a great beach read thriller with lots of twists and turns that will keep you hooked

Just like her previous thrillers, this was an excellent, nail biting rollercoaster ride that I absolutely could not put down. Set in the Norwegian wilderness, the story centres on 4 friends in their early 30s who have known each other since they were children; they set out to hike a challenging mountain trail and all manner of terrifying adventures take place... No spoilers but this was a real page turner that I thoroughly enjoyed. Highly recommended for all thriller fans.

Having read 4 of her previous books Lucy Clarke is an author I look out for now as I know I won't be disappointed.
This was another great book with a great storyline about 4 friends who after holidays normally spent chilling on beaches end up going on a hike. All 4 have complicated relationships with each other and problems in their lives that they want to escape from. They soon discover that the people they thought they could trust aren't who they seem....
Thank you to Lucy Clarke, Netgalley, Harper Collins UK,HarperFiction, for an ARC in return for an honest review.

The Hike tells the story of four friends who go on holiday together each year, taking it in turn to chose the location. This year’s holiday, hiking in Norway chosen by GP Liz isn’t a popular decision and when the inexperienced walkers set off danger awaits.
The dynamic between the very different friends was interesting with snippets about their normal lives slowly revealed throughout the book. There were plenty of plot twists, but the story didn’t keep me interested or invested in the characters.

I’ve only ever read one book by Lucy Clarke - The Castaways - and I very much enjoyed it. Clarke seems to often write books set in places that I’m curious about, and The Hike was the same. I have been starting research holidays in Norway recently because I love the idea of hiking around the fjords, so I snapped up this book when I saw it was available for review!

As always, Clarke writes about complicated relationships and friendships amongst a vivid setting. I really enjoyed reading about this group of friends as they commenced their completely unprepared hike through the mountains. There were lots of secrets involved, and I loved digging into them.

Other than the setting, though, I don’t think much about The Hike really stood out. It was a fun thriller, but certainly very average and not an all time favourite of mine. It also included a twist that I really don’t enjoy reading about, so the ending was a little bit of a let down for me!

Four friends who holiday together each year, decide to visit Norwegian mountain and forests this time.
It sounds idyllic until a woman’s body is found.
Whose body?and what has happened to the friendship of the women?
Another good novel from Lucy Clarke and an exciting holiday read.

This wasan absorbing story. Four friends go on a hiking holiday in Norway. Not all of them were looking forward to the trip which ended up much more adventurous than they all expected.. Some great characters and a fast movimg storyline. Very sad in parts but the conclusion was very satisfying even though I was in tears!

The Hike follows old friends Maggie, Liz, Helena and Joni as they lace up their hiking boots for an adventure in the Norwegian wilderness: a place of towering mountains, glass-like lakes, log cabins and forests stolen from a fairytale. It's the perfect place to lose yourself - until a body is found at the bottom of a ravine. Somewhere out there, someone knows exactly why a woman has died. And in this deep, dark wilderness, there's a killer on the trail.

I have read and enjoyed all of Lucy Clarke's books - This is another fabulous twisty thriller full of suspense, secrets, and scandal. With each chapter told from the differing perspectives of the four friends, the tension builds, and you question who to trust. I highly recommend this one if you fancy a thriller!
