I’ve only read the first few chapters as a teaser from the publisher, but it seems pretty good. I can imagine Bob Mortimer speaking as I read, as it is quite a gentle pace, very descriptive and a bit of a yarn. I can feel the main character growing nicely, and my curiosity is piqued enough to get the full book and find out what happens after the first meeting in the pub. I’m not sure if it’s going to be my favourite book ever, but it’s probably going to appeal more to middle-aged men enjoying a nostalgic look back on their dating years.

Sadly not for me! Picked this up because I love Bob Mortimer and his humour, but this fell flat. It felt like not enough depth and nuance to the characters, which in turn meant the I didn't have any real investment in the story.

A quick review of the first two chapters of what seems to be a very unusual little book! It’s definitely unlike anything I have ever read before.

The characters are quirky and as this was only the first 24 pages, I’d say I’d need a little more time to get into them as I found the main character Gary set my teeth on edge a little bit.

I think this book would be quite an acquired taste!

This was a preview of the first few chapters of Bob's new book, so only got a taste of it, but I liked what I read and you could feel his humour and voice in those chapters. Am looking forward to reading the whole book.

Based on what I've read in this taster, I think I'd really enjoy this book. The writing style is just as you'd expect from Bob Mortimer - a bit madcap, entertaining, and leaves you wondering what will happen next!

I will look forward to reading the rest of this...

I love Bob Mortimer as a comedian and with Paul Whitehouse in Gone Fishing. Unfortunately I found Gary boring and I don’t like quirky books like this. Think I will pass on this one

Bob Mortimer is one of the great comic geniuses of our time. Last year’s And Away... was one of the best biographies of last year and on this evidence, his new novel which draws heavily on his 1980s pre-comedy legal career looks promising too.
But it is impossible to tell from just two chapters. So who knows?

It’s too soon for me to say if this novel will be a page turner but it was a promising start and I’d definitely give the full book a go. I was offered a first look at the first two chapters.

It’s hard to give a full review with only the first two chapters, however from this opening, this is definitely a book I will be purchasing. I thoroughly enjoy Bob Mortimer’s writing style and send of humour within this.

I really enjoyed reading this sample and will certainly add the full novel to my TBR pile when it is published.

I devoured this book in less than one day. I initially received access to the first two chapters and loved it so much I promptly ordered the book. As soon as the book arrived I got stuck in and was hooked. The humour of Bob Mortimer is very much evident with the often surreal musings of the lead character Gary. Definitely one of my favourite books this year.

This was a thoroughly entertaining and enjoyable read; full of comic flights of fancy, just what you would expect from Bob Mortimer.

Read the two chapters available and really enjoyed them. It is written in the inimitable Bob Mortimer style and I am a big fan so would definitely enjoy reading the rest of this I think. Difficult to get a complete feel after only two chapters but it appears to be well written but quirky and you can definitely get a feel of it having been written by Bob. Read the opening chapters (ordered as a sample on Net Galley) and enjoyed them. Bob's humour came through. Thought about buying on Kindle but at the price could get the Hardback,sadly will wait for the Paperback to come out or see if any offers come up for Kindle in the future.

I find it difficult to give a proper review about the book, having only been given the first 2 chapters to read. Often a book takes longer to pull me in.
The book did not make me laugh. I found Gary, the main protagonist, quite a sad character who did not really interest me. Having said that had I been able to read more, I may have gotten to like the characters and enjoyed the book more.

How intriguing…just read the first 2 chapters as an ARC in exchange for an honest review. I’m not really in a position to give a review on the book however the first 2 chapters have left me very curious and eager to read more. I’m not sure what genre of book it’s going to be..maybe a mystery, thriller or just a novel about a bloke and a book and a squirrel?

I’m definitely going to have to buy it when it is finally published!

I only had access to two chapters from this book so I don’t feel like I can give a full review. From what I read, this had the making of an interesting story. I could definitely hear Bob Mortimer’s sense of humour coming through. I really enjoyed the taster chapters so much so, I have the book on order.
