I love a holiday romance with royals. I do wish I had realized it was a novella. When I read I am in for the long haul always. There was just something about this book that missed the mark for me. 3.5/5
A Season to Give by Rebecca Heflin is a sweet and charming holiday novella that combines romance and royalty, making it the perfect read for the season. Prince Adrian and his personal secretary, Sophie, find themselves alone together during Christmas and discover an irresistible mutual attraction that neither expected.
This novella is cozy, heartwarming, and filled with charm. The main characters have both experienced hardships in life, leading them to be guarded when it comes to love. The chemistry between Adrian and Sophie is palpable, and they both try to hide their feelings, knowing that their relationship could be seen as scandalous. Despite their efforts, fate intervenes, and a snowstorm brings them closer, making it difficult for them to resist their desires.
Rebecca Heflin has crafted a beautiful story that explores the complexities of love and the sacrifices one must make for happiness. The secret royals trope adds an element of excitement and fantasy to the narrative, making it a fun and enjoyable read. The romance is heartwarming, and the development of the story within the constraints of a novella is commendable.
Although I thoroughly enjoyed this book, my only complaint is that I wanted more. The characters and their connection were captivating, and I would have loved to delve deeper into their story. However, A Season to Give is a well-crafted novella that leaves readers feeling warm and satisfied.
I voluntarily read and reviewed a copy of this book, and all thoughts and opinions are my own. Rebecca Heflin has created a delightful holiday read that is perfect for those craving a sweet romance with a touch of royalty. I look forward to reading more from this talented author in the future.
I received this book as an ARC from NetGalley.
Even though this book is #3.5 of the series (per Goodreads), it was easy to pick up where this book starts. I do want to go back and read the others since this was a great read.
Sophie Jordan is the private secretary to a prince who has lost his throne and has relocated to the US. She has worked really hard to break the bonds of her humble roots. She has been blessed with people who support her and have given her a hand up as needed. Her downfall - falling for her boss!
Prince Adrian has been removed from the throne lineage due to his father's abdication. He moved to the States to start anew. He is living in seclusion at his mansion with a few select people. He has decided to live a life that is scandal free. The only issue - he has fallen for his private secretary!
When they both get snowed in for Christmas Eve - will they continue to fight the attraction or give in?
This is a good book. The two main characters are Sophie and Adrian. Sophie is a private secretary to Prince Adrian. There is an attraction. There are some issues between them but together they work them out and fall in love
I just did not enjoy this. It was boring with no chemistry between the characters, no personality. I was supposed to believe that they had fallen in love with one another when they had nothing but a purely professional relationship and didn't find anything to back that up with.
This book bursts from the first page like a horse at the gate and never stops running. It’s a wild ride.
Great, great, great - I am giving it a lot of love...read this one! An intense, emotional and utterly compelling narrative!
Absolutely loved this book! A sweet, fantastic read that I enjoyed so much! Definitely a book to read everything year! Love the book cover!!
A Season to Give is the story of Sophie who is a private secretary to Prince Adrian who has lost his royal title because of a family scandal. Sophie knows she shouldn't fall in love with her boss but it's too late for that! Prince Adrian shares those feelings but one scandal in the family is enough. See what happens when the two are alone together on Christmas - would make a perfect Hallmark movie!
This was a great short novel that I thoroughly enjoyed reading. I loved how well developed the story was for a novella. It was certainly very fairytale like which I loved. Apart from the royalty part, I found the story very realistic. I loved the fact that the boss had fallen for his assistant, and that definitely happens in real life. The romance was very heartwarming and made me feel so good. The book was packed full of atmosphere, and I certainly got carried away with it all. This book was very close to getting that 5th star. It's definitely a page turning story that I had to finish in one morning. I definitely recommend reading it as it's so heartwarming and works so well as a standalone book. Who doesn't want to pretend that they marry a prince... right!
So much praise goes out to the author and publishers for creating this brilliant short story. I will definitely be looking out for more books by this talented author.
The above review has already been placed on goodreads, waterstones, Google books, Barnes&noble, kobo, amazon UK where found and my blog yesterday https://ladyreading365.wixsite.com/website/post/a-season-to-give-by-rebecca-heflin-independent-author-4-stars under ladyreading365
How can you not enjoy a sweet holiday novella featuring royalty? It's exactly what the season was made for. Prince Adrian never expected to fall in love with his personal secretary Sophie, but when they end up spending Christmas alone together neither can resist their mutual attraction.
This was a cozy and charming holiday read. My only complaint is that I wanted more.

Cute story that reminded me of Cinderella a bit. Sophie is the assistant to the Exiled Prince of Montagneux. Sophie has been pining for her boss for a long time / but does not believe she is worthy of him due to her upbring. She was the daughter of a coal miner (dead), and a mom who worked as a maid for the rich.
The Prince of Montagneux has been attracted to Sophie but is afraid of the media attention for his family, and exposing Sophie to the media, after his father abdicated the throne, and divorced his wife to marry his lover.
It was a slow read for me... I became bored with the story.
Sophie works for Adrian, a wealthy man who was the heir to the throne of a kingdom before his father abdicated and took him out of the hierarchy. Sophie has coveted feelings for her boss for a long time. When a snowstorm cancels her winter plans and has her stuck with him for a weekend, will her crush survive?
This book was written well. It is a stand alone in a series and I look forward to reading the other books. I enjoyed the characters and the scenery that was depicted. Sophie longing for her boss (as described) is understandable, however; the non-Prince being secretly in love with her is a little harder to comprehend.
Thank you to NetGalley, Rebecca Heflin and the publisher for allowing me to read a free, advanced copy of this book.
This is a first time read for me by this author. I saw that this was a secret royals trope and thought it would be a fun read, and I wasn't disappointed. Sophie didn't really have a good upbringing, but she has worked hard to make something of herself and she became Prince Adrian's private secretary. Prince Adrian has been groomed his whole life to one day become king. But his father's reckless actions cause an international scandal and Adrian is exiled to the US. He and Sophie are mutually attracted to each other, but because of his father's careless actions, he's afraid he might cause more trouble and doesn't think he can act on those feelings. And even though Sophie is in love with Adrian, she thinks she'll only be setting herself up for heartbreak if she acts on her feelings. Then a little holiday magic seems to come their way to help them realize what a good thing they have and they shouldn't take it for granted.
A very nice story for the holiday season!
I received a complimentary copy from Netgalley and am voluntarily leaving my review.
I liked this one. This is the first book I’ve read by this author, but I enjoyed it. It held my attention from start to finish which is always a good thing. Not every book does. This book was well written with solid characters, backstory, and conflict. I would definitely pick up another book by this author. Huge thanks to netgalley for allowing me to read and review this book!
This was a sweet holiday romance between Prince Adrian and his private secretary Sophie. Prince Adrian’s family has abdicated the throne after his father filed for divorce and gave it up. Adrian is having a hard time adjusting to being a regular guy. Sophie is trying to help him be more human. They have both fallen for each other but haven’t acted on it. They are snowed in one weekend and things change. This was a nice story but not my favorite from the series.
A big thank you to NetGalley and the author for the eARC. I am voluntarily reviewing this book. This is part of a series, and it was an ok read as a stand alone. Could have had more backstory but it works. They seem like nice people. I didn't get the whole if we have a relationship it will cause a scandal thing. It's a quick, feel good book. It's light hearted and fun. Adrian's mom is great. He and Sophie make a cute couple. 3.5 stars
I love Christmas and romance, so mixing the two is always an amazing combination in my books.
However, this is apparently apart of a series and it's the fourth book. While it can be read as a stand alone, it feels like as a reader you get just plopped right into a world and you need to already have a background and know how everything happens in this world.
Even with all these things sticking out in my mind, A Season to Give was quick, easy and just the right amount of romance for the length on the novel. It had a great amount of romance that's needed for a book this size. Overall, I enjoyed it but I wish I had more background that's probably provided through the other books.
Thanks to NetGalley and Rebecca Heflin, I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
A quick, easy and adorable festive romance that I couldn't put down. I will definietly be checking out more both from this series and the author in general
This is the first of this series that I have read and found it cute and not too deep. I admired Sophie how she overcame her childhood of poverty. Adrian I liked well enough. I got that he didn't want to cause his family more "scandal", but he had no kingdom, no throne? That I didn't get. I like his mother a lot. and I liked Sophie's friends. Thanks to NetGalley for the advanced copy
An enjoyable hallmark type romance novel, the characters could have been developed more to make it more believable but overall I enjoyed it.
