Like other books in this series, it is a fun little introduction to historic figures. Definitely a great way to introduce kids to biographies and a nice read for adults too. I would recommend all the books in this series.
Great Book For a starting to read book. Really enjoyed learning about Anna Pavlova in this type of book.
This newest addition to the Little People Big Dreams series covers the life of Anna Pavlova, a word famous Russian ballerina who remains relevant al these years after her death. I think this book in particular will be relatable to a lot of young readers as it represents a dream a lot of children share: to be a dancer. I love how this book shows that these dreams can come true, and I liked seeing the depiction of Anna Pavlova's childhood before seeing her live these dreams. Her lifetime of dancing and ballet was brought to life through the beautiful illustrations I've come to expect from these books. I'm really glad that there is now a Little People Big Dreams book covering a ballerina, and I think this one will be a big hit with young readers.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for providing me with an advanced ebook copy of this title!
Before I read this I did not know of Anna Pavlova, now I know of her wonderful life as a dancer thanks to this colourful informative book
The perfect addition to the amazing Little People Big Dreams book collection. Anna Pavlova is an inspiration to all whether your ambitions are to dance or just to live your best life.
Anna Pavlova is another wonderful child friendly biography in the Little People, Big Dreams series. Anna was a little girl who lived with her mother, who worked hard to put food on the table and give Anna a gift now and then. When she was 8, her mother bought her tickets to see the ballet, Sleeping Beauty. Anna was hooked and worked hard over the next two years to become a ballet dancer. She was not a natural and was teased, but she got accepted into the Imperial Ballet when she was ten. She worked hard and eventually became a Prima Ballerina and performed all over Russia. She eventually formed her own ballet company and toured the world. She became one of the most famous Ballet Dancers in the world all because she persevered and worked hard. This is a perfect book for this series because it shows children that if you work hard, you can achieve your dreams like little Anna did. Sue Downing illustrated this book with quirky and whimsical illustrations that fit the story of Anna perfectly. The end pages also contain a timeline of Anna's life and resources for further exploration.
Another very nice instalment in the 'Little People BIG DREAMS' series of books.
This one is based on Anna Pavlova, the Russian prima ballerina.
It was nice to read about her, someone who I knew absolutely nothing about. I enjoyed reading about her discovery of ballet and how, after that, she spent all her life and effort in order to become a great ballerina.
A brilliant book for any young one who wants to become a dancer. These never fail to disappoint, highly recommend.
I love this series of books, little people big dreams. They are amazing books for children and adults alike. This one is no different, my 7 year old daughter really enjoyed reading it, as did I. The illustrations are wonderful as well. Recommend
These books are the absolute best! They introduce little ones to biographies in a way that is not too big for them.
I was very familiar with this subject so I really enjoyed learning about her childhood. The illustrations, as always, were cute. (Though the arms were a little much according to my little one)
My daughters and I love this series, and we really enjoyed learning about Anna Pavlova. As always with these stories, our favorite details are the ones about how they defy expectations and ignore the naysayers, staying on course with their “big dream,” and the details of that here didn’t disappoint! I especially loved the illustrations on this one—I think they’re some of my favorite illustrations from the series, with all the flowers and white and red Russian fabric designs throughout.
Anna Pavlova was one of the greatest ballet dancers in the whole world.
Reading about her life made me think about the amount of little girls and boys that she inspired to pursue their dreams and that put a smile on my face!
Another great book for this amazing series!
Another very nice installment in the 'Little People BIG DREAMS' series of books for little kids. These easy reads introduce a famous or notable person to kids, in an easy way for children to understand. Each book is illustrated & these drawings also shine a light for the reader, into the story. Anna Pavlova, the Russian prima ballerina in the early 1900's is highlighted in this book. The illustrations are unique, & seem a bit 'blocky', or 'sturdy' ......but they also fit the story perfectly....so it works great! This adult reviewer even learned something about Pavlova that I hadn't known....so I think that is wonderful! I think this is a great series for little kids!
I received this e-ARC from the Quarto Publishing Group-Frances Lincoln Children's Books via NetGalley, for review purposes. The opinions here are all my own, & it's a fair/honest review.
Little People, Big Dreams hits another one with this fantastic story of Anna Pavlova. A beautiful telling of a famous ballerina.
'Anna Pavlova' by Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara with illustrations by Sue Downing is volume 85 in the Little People, BIG DREAMS series.
Anna Pavlova was born premature and lived in a tiny house with her mother in Saint Petersburg. When her mother took her to a ballet, her future was set, but it was not an easy one at first. She became successful because she gave her best.
I knew of this person, but was delighted to learn more. The illustrations have a wavy quality to simulate graceful dance.
Thank you so much Quarto Kids / Frances Lincoln Children’s and Netgalley for the ebook to read and review.
Anna Pavlova one of the worlds most renowned ballerinas who went on to inspire and teach her dancing to the world. As a young child she loved ballet but wasn’t the best at it, but as she got older she became a prima and wowed everyone that saw her, as she traveled she wanted to teach ballet to those that couldn’t learn it.
This was a really good read it’s sweet that she was inspired so by ballet and only dreamt of doing it. She then went on to inspire millions with her talent in ballet, seeing the entire world showcasing all her talent. I adore how much she wanted for others to get the opportunity that she had and started to teach ballet whilst she was touring. It’s also so sweet that their dances inspired her too. It’s great that she went on to teach children, sharing her gift with the future ballerinas.
Another really great book in this inspiring series, with illustrations on each page and a sweet story to inspire children and show them that they can achieve their dreams with hard work and dedication.
The book tell us the beautiful and inspirational story of Anna Pavlova and how she grow up with her ballet talent. Otherwise, it is a beautiful, fun and colorful book and inspire us creativity.
The ARC of this book was provided by the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
The ‘My First Little People, Big Dreams’ series provides informative and inspirational biographies about people who left a mark on this earth, no matter what difficulties they have encountered.
These stories are very short, but that’s because they’re books for children, so it’s totally understandable.
I think they are a very smart and wonderful way to introduce little children to such important figures.
This little book tells the story of Anna Pavlova, one of the greatest dancers to have ever lived. It was nice to read about her discovery of ballet and how, after that, she spent all her life and effort in order to become a great ballerina.
I absolutely have to thank the author, publisher and Netgalley for the opportunity to read this adorable book. It is absolutely perfect for young ballet fans. It was such a beautifully illustrated story about Anna Pavlova.
This adorable book covered everything from her childhood, her discovery of ballet, and her amazing career. Even as an adult I learned a few things about Anna Pavlova that I didn't know. I would highly recommend this book for little ballerinas and for dance teachers as well.
Little People, BIG DREAMS. One of a series for adults to read WITH children and for ESL to polish their English and learn about people who have shaped their world.
Anna was born small but determined in a village in Russia. When she was six, she attended her very first ballet performance and decided then and there that she would become a ballerina. And she did! It was very hard work for her, but she became the very best at what she did!
The illustrations by Sue Downing are mostly simple, colorful, and forthright. Every public and school library needs a copy!
I requested and received a free temporary e-book on Adobe Digital Editions from Quarto Publishing Group/Frances Lincoln Children's Books via NetGalley. Thank you!
I love the Little People, Big Dreams series of books! This one is about Anna Pavlova, who, at the age of eight, was taken to see The Sleeping Beauty ballet show in Russia, by her mother. From then, she was hooked on ballet, and she became a professional ballet dancer. She became famous and she travelled a lot with her work, touching the hearts of many with her artistic dance skills. She set up her own ballet company, which was a huge success, and she also taught many little ones how to do ballet.
The book itself has really beautiful and quirky illustrations, and easy to read text, which my daughter and I loved.
Highly recommended!
Many thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for a copy of this book.
