I loved this book. All along my spidey senses were telling me I wasn’t getting the whole story about one of the characters and I was right. I thought it handled the cancer story really well. The characters were really well written and I could see myself being friends with many of them.
While I know finding Stella irritating was somewhat the point, I found her to be so irritating it was difficult to root for her or to continue the book.
What an absolute gem of a story- loved it. Stella is supposed to irritate you and I guess she does, but not for long. Loved the main characters, how Stella and Billie befriended their neighbour downstairs And how quirky Marjorie was.
Cosy on down and get started. Hope you love it as much as I did.
This book is so cute and sweet. It was really gripping and I would highly recommend. I would read other books by this author. Thank you to the author and publisher for this review copy.
Looking our for love is a romantic novel with a few smutty scenes but nothing very detailed.
Stella has spent her life looking for love, but after recently being dumped, she found herself single without her Dad’s money.
Then she starts working for a private investigator nicknamed ‘The Affair Hunter’ and she thinks she´s met the man of her life but she soon starts questioning if she´s being looking for love in the wrong places.
I personally didn´t connect with her character or the way she lives her life.
Late in the book you can see she cares for her friends and people that she hardly knows but still there was something that I didn´t like.
The book talks about some serious matters like cervical cancer. One of Stella´s friend is diagnosed with it. So be careful as it could trigger you.
The side characters, Stella´s friends are very likeable like Billie, Sam and Harold.
Towards the end of the book, when I got to know Stella a bit better I was ok with her character.
Although I didn´t connect with her the book was an easy to read romcom with lots of laugh out loud moments.
3.5 stars
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book. I have chosen to write this honest review voluntarily and it reflects my personal opinion.
This is the first book I've read by this author and I've signed up to follow her after finishing it. There's a good story (although a couple of twists come as no surprise), realistic, likeable (mostly) characters, plenty of humour in spite of the details of illness and treatment, and romance within the credible relationships. There's plenty to keep the chick lit lover engaged, it's a really good read, perfect for holiday time!
This book is written in the third person, which always worries me a bit - feeling as though I am not going to get as connected to the characters as I would if it was written in the first person. However, I was pleasantly surprised and forgot about that worry very quickly into the book!
Character wise, I found the protagonist, Stella somewhat frustrating. I know this is a book that is quite literally based around looking for love, but I felt she was too gullible and too desperate to find it. I didn't feel as though she quite knew what being in love was and the true definition of this. For me, the side characters are what stole the show, especially Harold.
This books is classed as rom-com. I fully understood where the 'rom' side of that came from, but the 'com' side, I am struggling to find. I felt the author was trying to add some humour into the story, but it felt slightly forced and didn't give me those giggly moments I usually have.
The writing style is good. Nothing that blew me away, but it was easy to follow and and was witty in places.
Stella was a mixture of feelings for me. I loved her confidence and her outgoing nature, however, I did feel she was quite self-centred at times and also very naive. However, her naivety did also help make her more sympathetic. As a young girl, she was used to being taken care of by her parents until her father cut her off. Forced to get a job for the first time in her life, she stumbles into a most unusual position of personal assistant to an ‘affair hunter’, a private detective who specialises in infidelity. Marjorie was not your typical employer which suited Stella perfectly.
When we first meet Stella, she is waking up after yet another one-night stand, this time with Sam. Sam seems incredibly nice and funny but Stella is late and has to dash. When she meets Fitz, a handsome, charming and mysterious businessman in the pub the next day she is instantly smitten and feels he could be ‘the one’. Yet there is always something off about Fitz, a bit too charming, too vague about his life and too prone to disappearing on ‘business trips’ or failing to show up for dates or dashing off early. When Sam keeps showing up randomly in Stella’s life at various intervals, it’s obvious which of the two men is better for Stella, yet it takes Stella a while to see it and she needed her eyes opened.
The storyline of her best friend Billie’s battle with cervical cancer is a bit more sombre yet it is vital to the story as it forces Stella to take stock of what’s important in life, to grow up and concentrate less on herself and more on helping her friend through a very difficult time. I’m also very glad Billie’s boyfriend Jez didn’t turn out to be a douche either, he also stepped up and he and Stella formed a truce in their bickering to focus on their mutual love for Billie.
Sophia’s writing is so fun and it’s a tonic to get to read a new book from her. I really enjoyed the pacing of this one and it was nice to read it around valentines day
This was such a good book. It was so easy to read and that’s what I look for in a romcom. Very cute. Would definitely recommend
"Looking Out For Love" by Sophia Money-Coutts is a delightful rom-com filled with humor and heart. Stella Shakespeare, facing a string of setbacks, embarks on a quest for true love. The story takes an unexpected turn when she meets a captivating man and lands a job with a private investigator known as 'The Affair Hunter.' Money-Coutts weaves a charming tale that explores the complexities of love and self-discovery. The novel's humor and warmth make it a delightful read, perfect for those seeking a feel-good story filled with romance and laughter.
The amount of times I found myself chuckling at some of the stuff this woman said or did was crazy! I absolutely love a book that makes me laugh unexpectedly.
Looking Out For Love is a fun and cute romance centred around Stella and her need to find the man for her, her one true love and what better way to find him than sampling others.
When Stella finds her perfect one she’s in for a ride. There’s so much that comes for her and it was great to read.
There’s fun times, sad times and a fair bit of drama throughout this book and I just have to say her family…oh I disliked them so so much.
This is my first read from this author and I will be looking into her others.
Loved this steamy, rom com! I would also recommend this for fans of Sophie Kinsella and Tessa Bailey.
As always, Sophia write a brilliant book. You can never go wrong with a book by this author. I’ve already recommended this to everyone I know.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This is a story of Stella Shakespeare, daughter of a millionaire, yet she never feels quite good enough for them.
Stella currently lives with her childhood best friend Billie, who comes from a very loving family and together they go through ups and downs in life.. illness, families, men and friendships.
Stella is on the lookout for the most romantic kind of love and has slept with a fair number of men to find him. When it seems she meets the man of her dreams, she finds out that not all is at it seems.
Forced to start earning her own money, she stumbles across a slightly odd woman who offers her a job to assistant her ‘affair hunter’ business.
I loved this story, the female closeness of 2 best friends and realising the true meaning of love. Easy to read, heartwarming, relatable characters, a gorgeous Summer read guaranteed to make you smile 🤍
Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for the ARC copy.
Sophia Money-Coutts is quickly becoming someone whose books I really dig lately. This one was a fun, quick read, and yes, though the main protagonist is hugely frustrating at times and really someone you want to roll your eyes at, I stayed mainly because I wanted to see the growth (if any) and on that end, I wasn't too disappointed (the ending is too swift/quick/any other word for 'not enough)
However, why this isn't getting five stars is the subplot with Billie. [ As someone who's had cancer IRL, I don't exactly choose to read about it in my escapist fiction, so not knowing this felt like being prodded really strongly when this plotline did drop in. Add to it the realism of the portrayal... It was triggering at times, and thank goodness for Stella's plot being so light - it's too light at times, but a great counterpoint to the other heavyweight plotline going on with Billie, so that brought balance somewhat. Don't read if cancer is a trigger for you (hide spoiler)]
A good one to pass the time - I'm definitely going to look for more from this author going forward
what a brill book to read tears and joy ups and downs and of course to have to read on to find out about fritz and of course we would all know what to do with him in the end and of course the icing on the cake is the lovely doctor sam alls well that ends well
Stella Shakespeare is 32 and desperate for love. She lives with best friend Billie and tends to meet a man, spend a night with him then never see them again.
When two chance meetings, one with the mysterious Fitz who takes a liking to her and one with Marjorie who offers her an equally as mysterious job, it seems like her life is turning around. Could what she's been looking for be under her nose this whole time?
I have read a couple of books by Sophia Money-Coutts and I'll admit, this probably isn't my favourite. I felt I couldn't get on board with a lot of Stella's selfishness, especially regarding Billie's illness but I understand that it was needed and we do get a nice redemption towards the end. The plot was something I've seen before which is totally fine but to me, the novel felt a little too long.
I absolutely loved the supporting characters of Harold, Marjorie, Billie and Sam and it had a lot of comedic scenes too. Billie's cancer diagnosis was explored well, I thought. Not my favourite of Money-Coutts but still enjoyable!
I loved this! I started it on a plane journey and was literally laughing out loud at points. A great easy read, which is humorous and light-hearted, perfect summer read.
Thank you NetGalley for my complimentary copy in return for my honest review.
Thank you NetGalley for allowing me to read this book ahead of publication.
A lighthearted but enjoyable escape, perfect for holidays when you can dib in and out of the pages when you want to swim or chill with a few iced drinks.
Do not expect heavy drama, and you will not be disappointed.
