Thank you netgalley for the advanced copy for review.
This was a solid read. It had an engaging plot with lots of twists and turns throughout the story. The characters were also well developed.
An excellent police procedural. Thank you Joffe Books and D.E. White for the ARC copy
The is the fourth book in D.E. White's Dove Milson series. Dove and her work partner are heading out on a call when they narrowly miss a baby seat on the road. While searching for where the baby seat came from, they come across a vehicle with a body in it. How does it relate to the child's seat. And does it relate to the initial call out?
The book deals with children, rape, and murder so not for the faint of heart. All in all an excellent police procedural.
Detective milson and her partner are on the road. Up ahead they see what seems to be a child's car seat just sitting in the middle of the road. Then they notice the accident and a trail of blood that goes into the dark woods. This book creeped me out. I had goosebumps and kept the light on. It was very engaging and it definitely caught my attention. I can't wait to read the next one.
D E White continues her Detective Dove Milson series with an edge of your seat thriller that will chill you to the bone: Stone Cold Killing.
Detective Dove Milson gets the shock of her life when she spots a baby cocooned in a car seat in the middle of the road while driving. Swerving to avoid the baby, Dove rushes out of her car to go and help the baby while Detective Steve Parker rushes to the car that has crashed ten metres up the road. As chaos descends, there are further shocks in store for Dove when it transpires that the infant in the car seat is in fact a doll. With the driver of the crashed car having disappeared off the face of the earth and a trail of blood leading to the woods, this crime scene continues to get more and more sinister when somebody shoots at them – and Steve is hit.
Were Steve and Dove targeted? Who put the doll in the middle of the road? And who was the shooter aiming a gun at them? When back up arrives, the driver is found dead nearby with a stone carved heart placed in her mouth. It becomes increasingly clear that while she’s the killer’s first victim, she is by no means the last. With a killer on the loose, Dove is in a race against to find this ruthless murderer before more bodies are found. But will Dove manage to stop them in time? Or will she be next in the killer’s firing line?
D E White’s Stone Cold Killing is a tension-filled, heart-pounding and nerve-twisting rollercoaster ride that kept me fervently turning the pages. Dark, chilling and disturbing and with plenty of shocks and surprises that will make every reader’s jaw hit the floor, Stone Cold Killing is an exhilarating ad enjoyable thriller that will test the redoubtable Dove Milson like never before.
Addictive, engrossing and impossible to put down, crime fiction fans will not want to miss D E White’s Stone Cold Killing.
Kept me awake most of the night as I just had to finish it. A great read… grabbed my attention from the first page… with each new revelation, I just kept wanting to turn the pages… I highly recommend this book
Whilst I ramble incoherently here, I have to add that I’m really unsure how a written review will do this book justice. Please just trust me when I say – THIS IS A MUST READ.
Thoroughly enjoyed this novel by D:E.White featuring Detective Dove Milson and Detective Steve ^Parker , the fourth book in the series. Whilst driving along the road they came across a baby car seat in the middle of the road containing what looked like a baby but was actually a doll and then further on was an empty car in a ditch. This was the start of a murder mystery that they were to investigate. The book keeps the reader enthralled until and last pages and I would recommend it to anyone who likes a good thriller.
Such a clever plot! really loved this book.
This is my first book from Daisy White and it will not be my last. I will now order the whole series in order to enjoy the ploy entwinned in this book better. You can read this book standalone sure, but you are missing out terribly on the character development of a wonderful characters in Detective Dove Milson and her (work) partner DS Steve Parker .
This book has some difficult readings at times particularly involving child cruelty which I personally find hard to read. though necessary for this dark and suspenseful storyline.
Looking forward to reading this series from the beginning.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for my copy of this book.
Detective Dove Milson and her partner Steve Parker swerve to avoid a car seat in the middle of the road. But there’s no baby. Then they hear gunshots and a woman is found murdered.
This seems a senseless murder as Alice appears a well liked, retired midwife. Then Sarah her friend is also found murdered. Are the murders related anc to the stem back to the smiling man?
I haven’t read any others in this series so I didn’t know Dove’s back story. For me it was a bit frustrating that things were hinted at but this is my own fault.
Reading it as a stand-alone book, I enjoyed it. The story is told from Dove’s pov with chapters from a mystery character threaded in. The suspense was built and it was never obvious who did it. A decent read.
An intriguing story and a brilliant read!
Daisy White has delighted me with this clever and gripping crime thriller and I was not in the least disappointed with this superb, briskly-paced tale. Detective Dove Milson and her (work) partner DS Steve Parker are driving when they are forced to rapidly swerve to avoid a crashed car and a baby in a carseat in the middle of the road, on a torrential rainy spring evening. There's blood at the scene, sounds of cracking twigs and shadows in the nearby woods...
I warmed to protagonist Dove in the first novel of this compelling series, Glass Dolls and also from very early on in this novel, Stone Cold Killing and I was rooting for her throughout the story. The deft and masterful writing skills of D.E. White anchored the storyline solidly in reality and the plot itself was very believable. Stone Cold Killing was so full of drama and suspense that it had my heart racing. Daisy White gave the reader a mixture of excellent characters with some great interaction, contributing to the strength of the narrative.
The book was a commanding read and the author’s talent made this a wonderful story that I thoroughly enjoyed and appreciated for the entertainment it was. This is a little gem and a book that I'm pleased to have read.
I received a complimentary digital copy of this novel at my request from Joffe via NetGalley. This review is my own unbiased opinion.
This was interesting but I had a hard time following the ending. It just seemed to be done. I did like the characters but wondered if they really would have made some of the serious mistakes these two made.
this is the first book of this series that I have read. at first I felt not in sync with the narration. the book is a slightly slow pace but when you get on to it you will love the book. the topics he brought up in the book are very interesting and it made me very intrigued through out the book. Dove and her partner detective Steve Parker are driving along when suddenly she is forced to swerve as there’s a babies car seat right in the middle of the road. Dove goes to attend to the baby only to find it’s a doll. Steve on the other hand has found a car crashed just up the road, he realises the driver is missing and that there is a trail of blood leading away from the car. He later finds the driver of the car dead. This woman isn’t the first to die, and she certainly won’t be the last. As I mentioned before this is one of the book from his series but as a reader who have not read his other books I didn't feel I missed out of the characters journey. this could be read as a stand alone book by itself and enjoy the Murder mystery. Thank you Netgalley for this ARC.
A police procedural, part of a series, but fine as a stand alone. Dove and her (work) partner Steve are driving when they come across a crashed car and a baby in a carseat in the middle of the road. Nearby a woman has been murdered. This centres around children brought up in a run down housing estate , some were rescued by being adopted . Now adults, with memories of those times, Dove and Steve try to get to the bottom of what happened, then and now.
I like the characters , the plot is mostly well written with plenty of action and a couple of twists in the story along the way. It all seems fairly believable and is a good read
Thanks to Net Galley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review

I found this story very long-winded and drawn out. I didn’t enjoy it very much as there was a lot of talking in it and not much action. My thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest review.
The book started off very well but did have some slow patches here and there, it also had speeches by the killer
which was off-putting and I did not find it challenging to work out why and who the killer was. I did not find it gripping enough but a pleasant read just the same
I want to thank Joffe Books and Netgalley for an advanced copy. I have not read anything from this author before and I understand this is the 4th book in the series, but would give this author another read.
What a intriguing and complicated murder mystery!
Though this is the 4th book in the Detective Dove Milton series, I feel it can be read as a standalone read.
I did have a bit of a hard time keeping up with all the characters. Especially all the inspectors!
Trigger warning: child cruelty
Thank you to NetGalley, the author and publisher for the opportunity to read this book for my honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.
Fourth in the series but can be read as a stand alone. I liked the previous stories and found them much better. This time Dove Milson and partner Steve investigate an apparent ritualistic murder which stretches to historic child abuse. More murders occur and the team starts to wonder about a revenge motive. There are a lot of characters which make life complicated and there are, to me, annoying chapters in italics from an unknown person's point of view. They just didn't fit and I'm afraid I started skipping them, hence almost certainly lost something in the process. Dove, as a senior police detective, should also really have learnt by now not to keep jumping in to dangerous situations alone - so far she's been lucky. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an advance copy.
Gosh this book was confronting due to some of the topics in it but it's also a massive page turner!!
First time trying this author and I can't wait to read another book by D. E White.
Thank you to #NetGalley and #JoffeBooks for my copy of #StoneColdKilling by #DEWhite
I found it very hard to get into the rhythm of this book at the start but one I did, I loved it.
Another great story in the Detective Dove Milson Series.
Dove and her partner Steve Parker are driving down a quiet road when she turns a corner and there is a baby in its car seat in the middle of the road. There’s a car crash at the side of the road but the baby is a doll and the crashed car is empty.
Then the first shot rings out. Great story.
I was slightly unsure what to make of this book at first, it was a little slow starting which left me slightly in the fence. It’s the fourth in the Dove Milson series, and I’ve read all of the previous books, but once I really got into it, I couldn’t put it down.
I’d say right from the start that this book isn’t for the faint hearted. It contains murder, rape, drugs and child abuse. It had literally everything in it.
Dove and her team step up their offsets to find out who is behind these murders before the killer has a chance to strike again.
Although this book is part of a series, it could be read as a stand alone thriller, however I’d say it’s certainly worth going back and starting from the beginning as you won’t be disappointed.
