Historical drama, second in this series, but works as a standalone. Interesting characters and situations,a look at the "season". A good read.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for my ARC, in exchange for an honest review. Quite the ride! Very cinematic in scope and held my attention ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Many thanx to the author, the publishers and NetGalley for allowing me to read and review this book.
I have read quite a few books written by this author and enjoyed each one but, unfortunately, haven't read the 1st book in this series. This didn't affect the enjoyment I had from reading this book and look forward to a 3rd installment! The author writes in such a lovely and interesting way, making you turn each page, wondering just how those lives are going to turn out!
What another delightful episode around this family.
This author has a wonderful imagination. I loved catching up with them and their lives and seeing what she had in store for them and she didn't let us down. It's such a lovely story to take us away from the stress of our real lives. Snuggling down of an evening losing myself was my special treat. I cannot wait to read the next installment.
Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this special book. xxx
Lord Farringdon has his work cut out with five daughters, but truth be told his wife Charlotte causes more worry with her behaviour and spending.
The book centres on Victoria who is to be launched into society, for this she needs a wardrobe, noteable special item being the ball gown.
She approaches local Jayne Hayden who has just started her own business. Jayne has the most special material stored away, as it has the mos sentimental memories attached to it can she bear to part with it!
Charlotte heads of to London to meet up with her step-mama to stay with her cousin Hester as she has her society debut also.
When they go to the ball Victoria’s dress makes quite the impression, some have other ideas for it!
Charlotte behaves with impropriety and Nicholas comes to a decision which may just assist her.
I enjoyed this book.
It's the first book I read by Linda Finlay and won't surely be the last as I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Entertaining, well plotted, and compelling.
Recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher for this arc, all opinions are mine
Thank you for being able to read this ARC in return for my honest opinion.
I have read all of Linda Finlay’s books and love the attention to detail regarding each of the crafts that she writes about.
This is a follow on book to the previous one about The Farringdons. However it is possible to read this as a stand-alone novel and enjoy the story and the events.
Charlotte - the stepmother - is a really nasty character though I imagine typical of the times with her stereotypical views around marriage, the poor, poverty and how she should be allowed to live.
I won’t provide spoilers but I found the narrative around ‘The Season’ and being presented to Court fascinating and also the historical aspect if Hugenot weaving and techniques.
It was also interesting following the story of Jane who we also met in the first book who was learning to accept new methods and expand her range as corsetry was not providing sufficient income.
The book did have an ending however if there was another in the series I personally would not be disappointed.
This thoroughly deserves 5 stars
Just loved this second book in the series from Linda Finlay. Will Bea become a nurse a fully fledged nurse under the watchful eye of Florence Nightingale or will she become a Dr ? What about the Ladies Louise and Victoria will they both get what they want from the men they love ? And will there be romance between Edwin and Jane ? So many questions but for answers we must await book 3 📚
My thanks as always to NetGalley and HQ for the early read.
I've absolutely loved this book. It packs so much in. Based around the Farringdon’s comprising of the father, step mother and 2 of his daughters they each bring something different to the storyline.
Bea was training to be a nurse under Florence nightingale. She was friends with another nurse who introduced Bea to the slums where her nan lived. Nursing back then was not what it is today and it was a great insight into life at that time.
Victoria was making her debut and needed a dress urgently. Jane Haydon steps up and makes one from her wedding dress. I loved Victoria's story of her being presented to the Queen, falling in love and her step mothers antics.
I really could gush about this book all day long. I didn't realise this was a follow on book, it didn't spoil anything, but as soon as I finished I had read the previous book just to stay in this gorgeous world a bit longer. If you love this style of book then you will love this.
