I loved this book! "Diversity is a fact. Inclusion is a choice." I was so fortunate to grow up in a family that encouraged inclusion and I continue that tradition with my children and my grandchildren. I read this book as a member of the LGBTQIA+ community who didn’t have books like these growing up. It’s a sweet book with an important and accessible message and gorgeous illustrations! Would highly recommend to parents.

This was a really lovely read and I am so happy that children, teachers and parents can have this to teach them about being an ally to the LGBTQIA+ community. We follow Joy who witnesses her gay brother Noah and his boyfriend Miguel being bullied, takes this to her mum and questions what she can do to show support and help. She embarks on a bake sale of ‘Pride and Joy’ cookies to raise money for a teen centre helping queer youths with the aid of other allies. Whilst this is one way, she later learns one must use their voice in some instances too. This was really great, with important points, especially how Joy asks Noah if he feels comfortable with her going on with the sale, the inclusion of various flags that come under the LGBTQIA+ umbrella (specifically the progress pride flag that aims to include all members), different races and genders (who face more discrimination than white gay people in most cases) and just agh it was so good.

The information, tips and questions at the back of the book was great too and I am just super happy that such a book will soon be available. I wish more resources were available when I was younger teaching children about queer people and allyship. Thank you! 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️❤️

Really lovely illustrations and message, a great introduction for children on what an ally is and ways they can be it. The pencil drawings are just lovely.

Amazing book to teach children about allyship to the LGBTQ+ community! Great notes for parents as well. Fun and unique illustration and easy to understand, relatable text. The story itself is a short and easy read.

I love being able to teach kids about being an ally and what it means to be inclusive through stories. I thought "Pride and Joy" did a great job at making it easily digestible for kids, while also being really cute and visually attractive.

This is a wonderful book for children to learn about introducing the discrimination that queer people face and how to be a good ally! I loved the notes for grown up readers at the end and the specification of making sure your allyship is intersectional.

such a cute artstyle and a fun and informative read. I like that it is digestable for a young age and is realistic in terms of it not being perfect, and it's also helpful to show that anyone at any age can be an ally. i also loved that there were some things that adult allys can do as well!

This children's book teaches children how they can be an ally to members of the LGBTQIA+ community. When Joy's brother is bullied for being gay, she wants to do something. So a cookie sale is planned.

This is a nice story and one with a strong and current message.

The two things that stood out to me the most with this story is what was in the back. The back of the story has some notes for Grown Up allies, which I found heartwarming and helpful. I also found some Pride and Joy discussion questions to do before, during, and after reading the story. I had considered myself an Ally but after reading this book I realized that we can always learn and grow to be helpful to those around and I am always ready to learn how I can do better and be a better ally.

Joy loves her big brother, Noah. Throughout the story Noah is bullied for the being gay. Those pages were hard to read, and the illustrations were spot on. Joy decides she wants to help her brother, so she becomes an Ally. This was a heartwarming book to read. The love and dedication some have for loved ones is amazing to see and read about. I loved all the colors and illustrations. Will be adding this book to the bookshelf at home.

This was a lovely introduction to allyship for young readers. As a trans woman, I was excited and nervous at the same time to see how allyship could be portrayed without usurping the central narrative of those most affected by homophobia and transphobia, queer folks themselves.

Instead, this book carefully and intentionally laid out realistic ways a child might feel about a situation where a loved one was being bullied, while still including important moments such as when Joy asked her brother if he wanted her to sell the cookies.

All of this was wrapped up with pretty and fun rainbow themed art throughout the book. I cannot wait to read this to my kids when it comes out!

This is an absolutely fantastic book for both kids AND adults. Not only does it teach acceptance and respect, but it also teaches kids how to stand up to bullies and be the best ally. And it can translate to not just the LGBTQIA+ community, but others as well! Which is absolutely fantastic. I thought it was a great story and it was really eye-opening for a lot of readers that would make them want to be allies or better allies. And of course, they had a really informative few pages in the back. That always makes me happy to see!

Now that my happy tears have stopped… this was the most precious, heartwarming, queer book for children I have ever had the pleasure of reading. Joy wants to learn all about becoming an ally to bring some comfort to her queer brother whom is being bullied. The illustrations are classic, almost vintage looking. The bully depiction was perfection. I need a physical copy of this for my own library!

I thought that this was an absolutely fantastic book to read!

The illustrations and images chosen were great and I loved the story and the ending was perfect.

It was well written and got the points over in the story really well.

If even one person changes their mindset from this book it is worth it. I read the book with my daughter and we had a chat about it too, it would be a great book for schools

Such a cute story with such an important message. I love that terms such as ally were defined as it is not something that even adults may know what it truly means. I loved that everyone gathered together to support and be an ally it was such a powerful ending.
