I have had this book on my Kindle for soooo long and I don’t know why I have left it this long to read! It was so good! I’m buzzing to see that there are so many more in the series because I loved it!!
The prologue hooks you in straight away with a grisly murder, but we have no idea who the killer is or why they are killing their victim. The book then changes POV to that of Detective Scott Baker, who has been woken up on his day off to the news of the murder. The book follows Scott and his colleagues as they investigate the death and try to find the person responsible. Their investigation quickly has to become fast paced as another murder happens with the same motif, and then another one again. The book itself was very fast paced with the new murders taking place and the team having to respond to new theories.
I liked the team around Scott, I’m hoping we get to learn a lot more about them as we move through the series as I feel like they could all be such interesting characters. I’m especially intrigued to learn more about Abby’s life as we know that she is struggling a little bit to balance police life with her personal life. Scott had good banter with the guys, and obviously there’s hopefully a lot more to come with his relationship with Cara, although I fear his past traumatic experiences may hold him back.
This was a really great, interesting and captivating police procedural novel. I would never have worked out who the killer was so it was definitely cleverly plotted! Some quite gruesome parts too in relation to the murders and the post mortems which always makes for an interesting read!

A good read, really enjoyed it. I'm glad to know this is the first in a series as I liked Scott's character and am looking forward to seeing him crack more cases.

First book featuring DI Scott Baker, set in Brighton. A fast paced police procedural with good characters and plenty of twists.

Gripping
A gruesome killer is haunting the streets of Brighton and it’s up to DI Scott Baker and his team to stop them
The police team are central to the story and it’s their world that we inhabit but not always in the expected way as this book looks at a different side of crime and policing. Whilst there is still a lot of the traditional crime drama, it also looks at the officers themselves, with a focus on Scott. It shows the pressures he is under, the paperwork, the personnel issues and the supporting role of a manger in those situations, Scott even mentions going on home visits to check on those who are off sick. This made him a much more relatable character to me, he felt real and genuine in a way that can be hard to do and it helped me bond with him as a character much more quickly
The supporting characters are also amazing, but I think a favourite had to be the Pathologist, Cara, who is brilliant at her job but also fun and full of ideas, even some outrageous suggestions that could help crack the case! On the other hand, there were a lot of outside characters who popped up for a little while and then totally disappeared, some rightly so but some that didn’t feel like they had finished their story so maybe they will appear in a different book and give me a more satisfying ending, it didn’t however spoil my enjoyment of the book or stop me from finding it fabulous
The story caught my attention very quickly, the murders are gruesome but fascinating, the characters feel relatable and I was kept guessing all the way to the end which I loved. I so didn’t expect the final twist and it gave a solution that was brilliant in ways that if I write what I’m thinking could end up accidentally giving spoilers
I would recommend this book to those who enjoy a crime drama that doesn’t hold back, looks at the reality but is also full of twists and turns that will keep you guessing

Time to Die was the first book in the series following DI Scott Baker. This book also my first read from the author.
The story started very strong and the plot is intrigued me. The police procedural tidy described and the characters is memorable. The banter between characters kinda off but the plot, pace, twist and POV are strong enough to make me engaging into the story till the end.
Thank you Netgalley and Inkubator Books for provided me with this copy. My thoughts and opinions are my own.

Had my attention from start to finish… I couldn't put it down and finished it in a day. Can't wait for more from this amazing author What an absolute cracker of a book!!!…

A good debut novel. Enjoyed this but was a little slow at times but really like main character The team are likeabe but would've preferred to have had them mentioned more.perhaps this will happen as the series goes on..A good solid mystery with some twists and turns.

Good story, plot and characters which kept me engaged throughout. Will recommend this to others who read this genre.

I have a little confession to make - yes yet another one. Although I have several of Jay's books on my ever increasing 'to be read' mountain, I haven't actually read one.......until now that is. When I was invited to take part in the blog tour for 'Time To Die', I thought that it was the ideal opportunity to make a dent in that 'TBR' mountain and also to get to know Jay's work. Having enjoyed reading 'Time To Die' as much as I did, I am now rather cross at myself for leaving it this long to discover how good his books are. I thoroughly enjoyed reading 'Time To Die' but more about that in a bit.
I started reading 'Time To Die', which is the first book in the series featuring Detective Inspector Scott Baker, and I found that I just couldn't stop reading. My copy of the book wasn't exactly glued to my hand but it might as well have been because it travelled everywhere with me. I couldn't bear to miss a single second of the story. I was blown away by the story and the characters. This was one of those books that stayed with me whether or not I had the book in my hand. If I wasn't reading the story, then I was thinking about the story. If I had to put the book to one side for any reason then I would immediately look forward to being able to pick the book up again. I would become so wrapped up in the story that I would lose all track of time and just how quickly I was getting through the book. All too quickly I reached the end of 'Time To Die' and I had to say a temporary farewell to Baker and his team. I found 'Time To Die' to be a gripping, tense and dramatic read, which certainly kept me guessing and which kept me on the edge of my seat.
'Time To Die' is extremely well written. The author has one of those writing styles that is easy to get used and to and easy to get along with. Jay certainly knows how to grab the reader's attention and draw them into what proves to be one heck of a read. For me, the story hit the ground running and maintained a fairly fast pace throughout. Jay describes his characters so vividly and realistically that they seem just as real as you and I. At times reading 'Time To Die' felt like being on a scary and unpredictable rollercoaster ride with many twists and turns along the way. I love the way in which Jay makes the reader feel as though they are part of the story and at the heart of the action.
In short, I thoroughly enjoyed reading 'Time To Die' and I would definitely recommend this book to other readers. I will certainly be reading more of Jay's work in the future. The score on the Ginger Book Geek board is a very well deserved 5* out of 5*

I loved this book, just fabulous. A real roller coaster of a thriller. Had me reading way into the night to finish this in one session. This is a really good series, can’t wait for the next one I’ll buy it in a heartbeat. Really great read and worthy of five stars. Nice work Jay Nadal!

BLOG TOUR REVIEW
Review for 'Time To Die' by Jay Nadal.
Read and reviewed for ZooLoos Book Tours, NetGalley, Goodreads, Inkubator Books and Jay Nadal.
Publication date 20th November 2022.
This is the first book I have read by this author. It is also the first book in the 'DI Scott Baker' series. This book was previously independently published as 'Greed'.
I was originally drawn to this book by its absolutely fantastic, eye-catching and unique cover and its intriguing synopsis. I must admit I was also biased due to the publisher being Inkubator. I have yet to read a book published by Inkubator Books that I haven't enjoyed. Hopefully this won't be the first... Watch this space! (Written before I started reading the book).
This novel consists of a prologue and 43 chapters. The chapters are short to medium in length so easy to read 'just one more chapter' before bed...OK, I know yeah right, but still just in case!
This book is based in Brighton and Hove, Sussex, England 🏴, UK 🇬🇧. The bonus for me of books that are partly or fully based in the UK is that I live in the UK and have sometimes visited places mentioned in the book which makes it easier to picture.I have actually holidayed in Sussex so am intrigued to see if I recognise places based on anywhere I visited while there.
This book is written in third person perspective with the main protagonists being DI Scott Baker and the killer The benefits of third person perspective with multiple protagonists are that it let's you see the bigger picture of what's going on and you get to know more characters more, what they are thinking and what they are doing. It feels like you get to see the whole picture and not miss out in anything.
This book is extremely well written with vivid descriptions that really set the scene and kept me on the edge of my seat. The cover and synopsis suited the storyline perfectly.
This is the first book in the 'DI Scott Baker' series and what an absolutely fantastic start to what promises to be a gripping series. It is a really fast paced page turner with a really gripping and gritty storyline that takes you on a rollercoaster ride of suspense, tension and crime and kept me on the edge of my seat. The storyline was unique and once I got stuck in I couldn't stop turning the pages. It is packed with murder, tension, crime, suspense and ticks every box you could ask for in a gripping crime thriller. I love the fact that it is set in Brighton and the author really sets the scene for the reader making it feel like you are with Scott and the team throughout. I love the fact that the ending is tied up perfectly so there are no loose ends left, one of my pet hates in books. I enjoyed seeing what was happening through the eyes of the killer and trying to work out why they were doing what they were. One of the most unique things in this book for me is that I actually felt sorry for the killer and could understand why he was doing what he was. It is very thought provoking as it makes the reader question (well it did with me anyway) the law and personally I wondered if anything should have been done at the end as they were actually doing the world a favour. This book would make a fantastic choice for book clubs and would bring up some great debates when talking about it. I have to be careful I don't say too much as I don't want to give anything away. Needless to say I am looking forward to reading the next book in this promising series which is called 'The Stolen Girls'.
It is always worrying when starting a new series as you have no idea who the characters are. It is very important for me to bond with not only the lead protagonists but also any characters that may make repeat appearances during the series too. Strangely it is important that I connect with the pathologist/s too as they tend to play large parts in police procedurals. Thankfully this wasn't a problem in this book.
It wasn't just the storyline I was completely invested in but also the characters. I really liked Scott and thought that he worked excellently with his team and made a great leader. My heart went out to him after losing his family and I really hope that he finds happiness. I loved the banter between Scott and his team and amongst his team members. It is always great to have some laughter in crime books as it lightens the story up a bit. All of the characters were strong and believable. Mike, Abby and Raj all made a great team and worked well together with plenty of banter and sarcasm between them all which made me laugh several times. I also really liked the pathologist Cara Hall who was full of life (pardon the pun), sarcastic and great at her job. I loved watching the bond between Cara and Scott develop throughout and I hope that it goes somewhere. I am definitely looking forward to seeing what happened between them in 'The Stolen Girls'. I am looking forward to meeting them all again and I think they are going to become one of my favourites.
An absolutely fantastic start to what promises to be an addictive series and I'm looking forward to reading the next book which will hopefully be soon!! Congratulations Jay Nadal on a fantastic page turner and here's to your next success 🥂!!
Make sure you read to the very end of the book to read the prologue and first chapter of Jay's 'The Stolen Girls' which promises to be just as addictive as this book and I cannot wait to get stuck into it!!!

Time To Die by Jay Nadal
They thought the past was dead and buried. But now it’s back to haunt them.
A local criminal is savagely killed, then another . . .
As the body count grows, Detective Inspector Scott Baker and his team are caught in a race against time as they hunt for a serial killer who is at once methodical and deeply disturbed.
Really enjoyed this book. Love Scott and Cara. 5*.

This is a great start to the DI Scott Baker series, set in Brighton, with excellent, believable characterisation throughout. When a local criminal is brutally killed, Scott is in a race to find the killer when the body count grows. Are the victims linked, if so, how? The plotting is very good, with a steady pace until the end, filled with plenty tension and suspense as the race to find the killer intensifies. This will be a winner for the author, who never disappoints, and I would recommend the read to lovers of the genre.. Thanks to Net Galley for my ARC

Thanks to Net Galley and the publisher for this arc. I have never read this series before but I found it to be excellent, fast paced. I like that in a story.

I really enjoyed this and mainly for the fact that it was exactly what it's advertised to be! It's a shirt and to the point murder/ detective type story. Its not full of gore for shock value and it doesn't drag things out or throw in ridiculous twists that have no relevance what so ever and such, it's just back to basics and I loved it for that! It's quite short and I flew through it in a day. It was a nice wee palate cleanser type book and I'd absolutely recommend

I’m a sucker for a good police procedural and this one is good. Plot, location and characters are all spot on. I understand that this is the first in the series, so I’m looking forward to see how this progresses.

I would like to thank the author, the publisher and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read an ARC of this book. I hadn't read anything by this author previously but I will definitely be reading more of them in future. It was a well written book with great characters.

I would like to thank Netgalley and Inkubator Books for an advance copy of Time to Die, the first novel to feature DI Scott Baker of Sussex Police based in Brighton and Hove.
A local criminal is stabbed to death and Scott and his team are assigned the investigation. Then another criminal is stabbed and it seems like the bodies are arriving faster than the clues.
I enjoyed Time to Die, which is the story of an investigation, interspersed with the thoughts and actions of the unnamed killer. It is a short novel so there is little space for nuance and it concentrates on events.
I like the concentrated format. There is a murder, seen through the eyes of the killer (without gratuitous violence or descriptions) and there is the police response, rinse and repeat. It is an interesting contrast between the actuality and the theories explored by Scott and his team, which at times I found frustrating because I knew differently. I think the ending is the strongest part of the novel. The author throws in a twist and completely changes the reader’s perception of events.
Time to Die is a good read that I can recommend.

A great start to the series, it was a compelling read with well developed characters and twists and turns galore. I really enjoyed it.

An excellent start in a new series starring DI Scott Baker. Good characters and story. Looking forward to more in this series and see how the characters progress.
I received this book from Incubator books and Netgalley for a review.
