Hyperorganised and formidable, Eve Starkey defeated her boss, the louche magical adept and billionaire Rupert de Montfort Bigge, in a supernatural duel to the death. Now she's in charge of the Bigge Corporation, just in time to discover the lethal trap Rupert set for her long ago . . .

Wendy Deere is investigating unauthorized supernatural shenanigans. She swore to herself she wouldn't again get entangled with Eve Starkey's bohemian brother Imp and his crew of transhuman misfits. Yeah, right.

Mary Macandless has powers of her own. Right now she's pretending to be a nanny in order to kidnap the children of a pair of famous, Government-authorized adepts. These children have powers of their own, and Mary Macandless is in way over her head.

All of these stories will come together, with world-bending results...
Wow what a book thank you ever so much for the opportunity to review. I could not put it down. Would definitely recommend to others!

A complex and detailed book. As always with Tchaikovsky it is a good read.perhaps not as memorable as some.

I read it again, and I can confirm what I wrote:
Stross can't write a bad or boring book: this one is excellent and gripping.
Great storytelling and world building, excellent character development.
As it's the second in a series it's better read them in order.
Highly recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine

This is another brilliantly warped funny fantasy story. In some respects I never know exactly how to categorise Charles Stross’ books, except to say I love the brilliantly conceived wild rides, full of humour, in a reality that is entirely familiar and yet blatantly unhinged. There are characters you can love and cheer, and others whose moral compass pointer has twisted so far that it has turned around and stabbed them in the heart only to find there was no heart there in the first place. I couldn’t put the book down as I was desperate to find out how all the strands of the story were going to come together. But they do as the story races to a frantic finale. But I know this is not the end of the ride, can’t wait for the next book. Thank you to Little Brown Book and NetGalley for the ARC. The views expressed are all mine, freely given.
