An action packed adventure about a highwayman and his apprentice. It will definitely encourage children to learn more about this period of history.

This was quite an easy, entertaining read. Ned was a good character, a boy struggling against circumstances to find his own future free from highwayman, The Shadow. It's full of adventure, and the pace is really good. I felt that it was convincing in it's setting and the lives of the characters, and it was good to read about a period of history not often covered in MG fiction. While it is a quick, light read, I thought it worked well and I can think of several children who will enjoy this one.
