I already said more than once that I love gangland crime. I was a very happy camper when I was allowed to read this one. It's book 3, but I only picked in and got to know these recurrent characters in the previous book. As per usual there are some you love like a sister or a brother and others you cannot see them walking out the door fast enough.

And sometimes you are left with mixed emotions. You like someone one minute and the next you wish you could get rid of them in the blink of an eye.

Patsy Diamond is more determined than ever to take over and become the boss lady or the queen of diamonds. I can see her point. I would not mind being the boss lady either, but in my opinion you don't get to be the leading lady in a flash. You have to prove yourself and show you have earned the spot and you can look out for your 'family'. I don't feel like Patsy is strong enough for that. She is sometimes scared (when is the boss ever scared?). She does not have a faithful army of loyal people she surrounds herself with and she often enters the lion's den too unprepared.

The boss in my head is the one giving the orders. Not the one leaving everything to someone else without even knowing what they have planned.

This being said does not mean I did not enjoy the story. There were a few shocking revelations and if you ask me to pick a favorite character, it would be Freddie without any doubt. I loved his attitude and he was the one person Patsy could always count on. He kept his promises even though he did not really respect her very much.

Maybe Patsy was a bit too trusting... When dealing with gangland you can only trust people as far as you can throw them... 4 stars

Thank you

My Thoughts:
I am so enjoying these gangland thrillers they are filled with romance, killings, mysteries, families business, kidnapping and so much more. When a main family members dies does pasty take over the family business when so many others want the job. This is the third in this series and if you can I would recommend reading book one and two first for the families background. But this can be read as a standalone

This is the 3rd book in the Diamonds series; they are all fabulous reads. This latest one see’s Patsy Diamond take a step further into her role as the head of the Diamond family and taking on the role of her late husband, Nick. He was ruthless and his work ethic was based on fear. Patsy, however, believes there is a better way of gaining trust and respect. Has she got what it takes though?

This is a brilliant book and sometimes quite hardcore as Patsy makes her mark in the gangland area of Glasgow. In previous books, she has had a lot to deal with, but now she wants to make changes and this means making deals with some of the worst of the worst. As Patsy comes across as quite aloof, the rich bitch, the well-dressed and manicured lady. It gives her a cold and uncaring persona, but she has a few surprises for people and I think she surprises herself with how much she now enjoys this challenge. She has to prove herself.

This one is a gritty and complex story and I adored it. There have always been things that have sprung up out of the woodwork in this series, and before you think there are no more surprises to come, you would be way off the mark. Yet again there are more surprises for the Diamonds and it could jeopardise the family business.

In a world of secrets, death, drugs, prostitution, money laundering and murder you need to be sure of those who are closest to you, a right-hand man is essential to help keep the day-to-day running of the business. There is an awful lot for Patsy to organise and with new deals and alliances to be forged, she really does have her work but out for her. If this isn’t enough there is also something far closer to home that requires her attention, if she gets this wrong it will destroy her.

The author has once again written an amazing book that I devoured in one sitting. It shows the strong woman that Patsy needs to be and it was a side that I didn’t expect to see. While she is strong she is also vulnerable and this brings out a nice balance to her character. Yes, she is naive, but she is also analytical in how she thinks things through and she will not be duped or made a fool of. I have really enjoyed seeing how the author has brought Pasty, the wife of Nick Diamond into the forefront and she is now beginning to stand on her own feet. She is not someone’s wife, she is Patsy or Mrs Diamond and she doesn’t take fools lightly.

Yet again the author has created a fabulous and dangerous story for her characters. This one speeds along at a great pace and there is a real sense of things potentially going very wrong. This is a book for those who love their gangland crime and it is one I would definitely recommend.

Gillian Godden has done it again with this gritty gangland story following on from Rough Diamonds about Patsy Diamond. Patsy finds herself in charge of sorting out and taking over late husband Nick’s dubious businesses. Will people accept her as the boss and who can she trust? And who is Karen Duret? Set mainly in Glasgow and France this is a real page turner with twists and turns, secrets and some pretty gruesome scenes. I love how Gillian Godden portrays her female characters as strong but also shows their vulnerable sides. I really hope that there is another book in the series as I want to know what happens to Patsy next. Thank you to Netgalley and Boldwood Books for the opportunity to read this in exchange for an honest review.

Queen of Diamonds by Gillian Godden is a superb addition to this series of books. Is the Diamond family shrinking or growing. It's the day of Beryl Diamonds funeral, the Matriarch of The Thistle Park Estate. Many are out to show respect to a woman who was much loved on the estate.
Patsy Diamond was married to Beryls grandson Nick, who was recently killed. it's time for Patsy to step into his shoes and take over running the business. What Patsy doesn't realise is there are so many people who want to take over and not all of them think she can cut it.
For Patsy to take over she is first going to have to take on those that want what she has. She has a lot of people to convince she is up to the job.
This story takes us from Scotland to Paris and back again, it has everything you want in a good gangland gritty crime book. Love, lies, deceit, Double crossing, Kidnap, secrets and a whole lot more. Be prepared for the ride of your life through this book. The author knows what readers want and never fails to deliver. This is by far the best book yet and what a superb cliffhanger we are left on.

Book 3 in this excellent series by Gillian Godden and for me you would want to read Book 1 and Book 2 first, there has been a lot ‘gone on’ with the Diamonds in the past,it was good to be back with them and the story and to see what was going to happen to them, and a lot happened,a good gangland book that had everything from double crossing to the usual big characters we have come to expect from this author and even some truffle hunting became part of the story
I loved the gangland folk we met and the meeting of all the ‘top guns’ was really well written and easy to visualise with Bernie being one who stuck in my mind!!
Lots of exciting storylines here that weave together to reach a conclusion…….but the ending leaves it wide open for the next book
A great series and a great 3rd book, enjoyed it as always by this author
