Thank you for my earc of this. Unfortunately I didn’t finish this one. I may come back to it and try again but I just didn’t like the characters at all. I’m so gutted because Bad Choices was a favourite of mine! If I come back to it and finish it I will update my review!
This was okay. The characters were unremarkable and it read like fanfiction. It wasn't anything lifechanging, and I found myself skim reading a lot of the pages. I wouldn't want to read it again, nor would I be particularly eager to read another title from this author.
Im sure most of us have had idle thoughts about ex-partners and the 'nearly-got-togethers' in our relationship history, wondering what might have been if you'd taken a different path through life!
In 'Seven Exes', Esther is fed up of her bad relationship luck and decides to follow the advice given in a magazine, that we all have seven types of exes, and one of them will be our One True Love. The seven types are 'The First Love, The Work Mistake, The Friend with Benefits, The Overlap, The Missed Chance, The Bastard and The Serious One, and Esther knows immediately who she would put into each category, and sets about making contact with them one by one, to see if there's something that she missed the first time round.
The story is told in a series of flashbacks to when each of the seven relationships started, which was a great way to see where Esther was in her life at that time and who she was attracted to; these are mixed into the present-day storyline, where she meets each of th partners again, and tries to see if hey are her True Love.
I particularly liked the school playground romance, it brought back so many memories of being 16!
Esther is supported in her mission by her flatmates, who are also fabulous characters to read about - I loved their friendship group, how they all worked as a group and as individuals, and could pull Esther up if she was being too ridiculous.
The story is an easy lighthearted read but with some heavier moments in there and some deeper truths about how we all act in relationships, for better and for worse. A fabulously crafted rom-com, a solid 4/5 stars from me!
I really liked Seven Exes by Lucy Vine. Esther amused me and there were a couple of twists which absolutely surprised me. It was a good read and I very much recommend it.
Being a huge fan of Lucy’s books, I was ecstatic to hear she had a new one coming out, and boy, it did not disappoint.
Incredibly funny, very relatable with some much loved characters. ‘Seven Exes’ is the type of book that you will pick up to read and never want to put back down.
A romantic comedy for our time. Well written characters and humorous story with a satisfying ending.
This is a great book for the genre that it’s in. I liked the writing style and I think it would be a great palate cleanser type book.
