I had pretty high hopes for this book after reading the synopsis and seeing that beautiful cover but alas, this is why they say never judge a book by it's cover. I ended up being so disappointed. A gothic tale which was was an extreme slow burner which really took a long time to get into. It did start off really well which gave me high hopes, but then it just went off the rail and then it ends. That's it it just, ends.

Thank you Netgalley for this arc.

The book didn't quite resonate with me. While it explores themes of friendship and bravery, I found the plot to be a bit simplistic for my taste. Despite the accessible writing style, I struggled to fully engage with the story. Overall, while it may appeal to readers looking for a straightforward and heartwarming tale, it didn't quite capture my interest.

This book had been sitting on the back of my kindle for a little while, and I finally go around to reading it this past week and WHEW it kept me glued to my kindle. I was really surprised and loved how feminine everything felt, as these kinds of books will usually have the whole “I’m not like other girls!” trope that just plays out as super dull. I feel like a fool for letting this pass me by for so long and I will 100% recommend this to my friends!

First of all: really nice cover.
This is a fantasy that has witches and I love them! So I had sort of higher expectations, the book didn’t meet them all, but it was still a nice read!

Soul of a Raven - The Fate of London Stone by Catherine Bloor - 4/5

I love a book with a spectacular cover, one that catches your attention, and you cannot stop thinking about it. This is a fantasy with added witch elements, suspense and a feeling that leaves you wanting to find out all the secrets. The main character Wren is tasked with protecting an ancient object from someone who as caused issues for centuries. I loved this story from beginning to end and have recommended it over and over.

The timeline of the story being Victorian period, and occasional factual elements made the reading much more enjoyable. If I can believe and relate a little bit, I can feel myself living within. This one was one of them. The slow burn was a bit tiringly slow, and the writing was sometimes too simple, but the story and elements had high quality and the simplistic writing made these more prominent.
The entrance being a slow and not gripping one and ending being a cliffhanger, my feelings are confused.. overall, I liked Wren and her train of thoughts..

This book is actually quite interesting. It weaves together two stories belonging to two different timelines, which can get a bit confusing and takes some time to get used to. I would totally recommend this book for fans of gothic, supernatural, and witchy fiction!

Soul of a Raven is based on the London Stone, a legend I didn't really know about until I read this. Part of the story is about Serin, who discovers a hidden family manuscript that changes her life. The other part is about Wren, who obtains an enchanted penchant that may be the start of her downfall.

All in all, this book is pretty interesting, though it could get a little boring at times. Nevertheless, I would give this book a shot if you like reading books with a somewhat creepy victorian setting!

Thank you to Net Gallery for providing me with an advanced copy of this book!

This story was non-stop mystery and anticipation that keeps you going until the very last page. I loved the book within a book storytelling. The characters are all intriguing and left me wanting to learn more about them. I cannot really describe the plot without giving out a good chunk of the story and I feel like it is best discovered by reading.

It does start out a little slow, but after about five chapters in you really get going and then it is far more fast-paced. The ending does feel like a bit of a cliffhanger which honestly left me wanting to know how the rest was all going to pan out.

I wanted to enjoy this much more, the premise is so good, just a lack of excitement was what held me back. The story began well and but the pacing and story was too slow and couldn’t keep me interested, I felt no connections with the characters , just not for me sadly

Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for a free copy in return for an honest opinion

I love dark historical fiction but don't read much fantasy, so this was a nice mix of the two genres for me.

Set between 19th Century Chichester & London, and the present day, this is the story of a young girl named Wren who it is prophesied will be the one to save London, when she is much older, by saving London Stone - an ancient rock which protects the city from harm.

Wren is given a magical hare necklace that she names Wispe and protects with all her heart. However, Corvus, half man, half raven, is set on acquiring the hare for himself, after hundreds of years of trying to obtain it.

Falling in love with a local man, John Bludden, Wren has to flee suddenly when Corvus nearly captures her. Its over 20 years later before she is reunited with John but so much has changed for them both...

In the modern day, Serin finds a book in her mother's attic called The Raven Man, where she reads about Wren's life and adventures, as well as the man called Corvus and how she herself fits into the picture.

This was really enjoyable, very clearly drawn characters, good historical detail and the elements of magic brought it to life. Would love a sequel!

This is about a woman that finds a book in the attic written by her great grandmother. By opening the book, she may have unleashed an evil magic.

I was so bored throughout this book! The only thing I liked was the Gothic vibe. As far as characters go, they were all unimpressive except for Wren.

This was a really interesting read. I finished it in a few hours, and I still don’t think I’ve fully recovered. It's a historical fantasy, with a bit of mystery and thriller aspects. This will definitely be more enjoyed by adult fantasy readers, but I did really enjoy it.

The concept is very interesting, and I think it was done well. I liked reading a book within a book, though I do feel that we could’ve seen more of the present day point of view. Everything is very nicely laid out, and both of the stories seamlessly piece together, which is something that can be hard to do when writing two stories in very different time periods.

Overall this was a very intriguing read. Thank you to NetGalley, Cranthrope Milner Publishing and the author for allowing me to read an advanced copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

A big thanks to Netgalley and Cranthorpe Millner Publishers for gifting me an eARC in exchange for an honest review.

A gothic tale? With a hidden family manuscript? And dual point of views that span across time? Count me in! .....or not so much......

Soul of Raven by Catherine Bloor is a fantasy novel that follows the soon to be upheaved life of Serin, as she discovers a hidden family manuscript about a girl named Wren. Wren had a life of normalcy, until she was gifted a pendant in need of protection. From a despicable man, named Corvus. But as the pages keep turning in the manuscript, things start to be hectic around Serin, almost like she unleashed a dark dormant magic.

I really wanted to like this book, but I found it to be simply mediocre. As the romance was waaay to slow, despite it being a slow burn. And the writing itself, read simple with a great effort to be pretty. Only it didn't come across that way, and ended up sounding choppy and killing the story.

Though, you will probably be catching me reading the next book.
