Thank you, North Atlantic Books, for the advance reading copy.
I love the cover so much! However, I was expecting more illustrations or pages with easy to the eye presentation. I feel this is a book for the readers who are seeking self healing and comfort through a book that has poetry and more interactive prompts.
Expect more of essays, less prompts and much lesser poetry. I would expect a lot more of poetry, more prompts frequently in the content and an essay alternating in between seeing the title of the book.
Well, every chapter has something to offer for the one needing some comfort and self awareness.
Poetry as Spellcasting by Tamiko Breyer, Destiny Hemphill, and Lisbeth White is a very well put together and concise book about how writing poetry can help you manifest your intention in spellcasting through poetry. I really enjoyed the read. As a writer I was hoping to get more out of this book but I should have known that poetry is not my medium and I didn’t get much from it as I have no confidence in poetry (reading aloud or writing) this would be perfect for those who enjoy wordy spells and can easily form poems from thin air. Beautifully excited just not right for me. I will be looking more from these authors and hopefully will find something that truly resonates with me. Thank you for the opportunity to read and enjoy this book!
Thank you to NetGalley and North Atlantic Books for the ARC copy for review! This book will be published May 16th, 2023!
I have never seen any other book like this! The authors put together a collection of essays, poems, and writing prompts to encourage you to believe in yourself and create your own magic. I was a little confused about the topics of some of the poems, but that is no fault of the authors. It was just subjects I wasn’t familiar with. Overall, this was an inspiring collection.
This was a lovely book. Great use as a guide. I really enjoyed the prompts and activities it provided. The instructions were detailed, which is always something I appreciate.
This book would be best in physical form due to the graphics.
The writing in this book is beautiful, and the exercises were very helpful in getting me into the right headspace to write/ express myself. I found it beneficial that many of the prompts were based on inner work, anyone can easily benefit from this book.
This is very different then from how I expected to be in all the best ways. This books is not like most spell workbooks and is actually even more of use, I’d say.
There are a lot of activities that involve more inner work as well as a tool to build your best spell work imaginable, from your heart and soul.
I think a lot of thought went into this one. It’s a beautiful take on spell work and how to feed your energy into a spell or weave your intentions through something as simple as a word.
Thank you to Netgalley and North Atlantic Books for providing me with a free ARC!
This is a stunning collection of poetry.
For each chapter you'll find an essay and prompts that will help to get you in the right frame of mind to write your own poems. I found it inspiring, moving and yes, magic.
The book truly underlines the importance of words, of believing in yourself and remind the reader that they are the creator of their own world, that they are capable of making art from their lives, whatever that looks like.
I appreciate the different poetry styles, used here and each and every writer who participated.
This book would make a lovely gift for an aspiring young writer, especially if they struggle to find their place in the traditional places where these practices are taught.
I was really surpised as to how much I enjoyed this book, it was thought provoking, deep and beautiful. The exercises included in the chapters really helped me rebalance, feel empowered and connect with myself. I loved this book,
I feel this book isn’t as useable as an ebook, a physical copy would fit much better with its writing and images, plus the exercises the reader is asked to do/join in with. I wasn’t the target audience and that is perfectly fine, I still found the writing interesting and informative and feel I could recommend it to other who would benefit more
This book contain suggestions for creating a sacred space for writing and writing ritual practices interspersed with poems and other of creative nonfiction writing on various topics. I did not find the creative writing that original but found the writing suggestions useful. Suggestions include lighting a candle when writing, calling in people, spirits, animals, and elements to guide your writing and speaking your writings out loud.
