Absolutely gutted that this just didn't work for me. The flitting between 3rd and 1st person for the different storylines for the same person just grated on me too much.
I absolutely adore this author is was looking forward to reading this and read it practically on one go. Paris is one of my favourite cities and I have an obsession for all things Parisian and have loved French since I studied it many year ago so this book was right up my street and loved reading about places I had visited as also brought back my own memories as well as reading about the main character Juliette’s journey into the city of Paris.
This story was told over a dual timeline of then and now and followed Juliette on a journey of self discovery and of finding the happiness and courage to start again after separating from her husband and reaching a certain age and milestone in her life. The story spanned a thirty year period of time.
This was a beautiful uplifting and inspirational read which showed that anything is possible if you put your mind to it and that if you want to start over in your life then take the leap of faith and go for it as you never know what it might bring
This book would make a fabulous tv drama adaptation and am sure would be relatable to a lot of people.
I loved this! Started last night about 11 and finished this morning. A great quick read perfect for escaping into the world of Paris, with all our hopes of being able to find redemption, forgiveness and love in our middle years. Recommended.
OMG I absolutely adored this book. Filled with the sights, smells and atmosphere of Paris throughout and told both through the memoir and present day life of Juliet. This book felt like it was written for my generation of women in their mid fifties who feel that life is passing by too quickly and wonder what life may have been like if we’d made different choices…….. as Juliet says ‘ a coming of middle age book……..about how she had come to revisit her past and in doing so had found herself……….. women of a certain age who had lost their way and were unsure of the future.’ Beautifully written, wonderful characters that I’d love to meet in real life. I feel like I’ve just spent a gorgeous few hours in Paris. Perfect storytelling. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
On a side note, having lived in Worcester all my life, Veronica won’t be winning any prizes from Worcester Tourist Board as it comes across as the most boring place in the world 🤣😂 - seriously though. It was fantastic to read a book where my home town is featured, rather than London or Manchester. Thank you Veronica 😊
Thanks for the advance copy. I would like to say i enjoyed it but didnt get past 22%..
It started well with a couple deciding they had grown apart and parted on friendly terms to live their lives. A move to paris to write early memories really didnt hold my attention and sadly thats where it ended for me. Not one of Veronicas best 😩
I absolutely loved the new book from Veronica Henry. Told almost as two storylines from a young women as an au pair in Paris and then as a middle aged woman revisiting for the first time following her divorce. There was friendship, romance, loyalty and a strong emphasis that women are never too old to find what they are looking for. Brilliant.
What a beautiful book packed with love, hope, life and Paris.
As Juliet navigates her ever changing life, she heads to Paris......a city she fell in love with many years ago. She has given herself 30 days to go and enjoy the Parisian lif as she seeks to find her pathway forward .
Follow her journey as rediscovers her many loves in Paris and at the same time, challenges herself to step into a new chapter in her own life.
I absolutely devoured this book. It is written with such empathy and hope that it encourages you to grab life by the horns and run with the chances that you can, while you can.
Loved it #veronicahenry. X
This is a brilliantly reflective read featuring Juliet who has just separated very amicably from her husband of twenty five years and, now their home has been sold, has decided to rent a Paris apartment for a month to give her the opportunity to revisit her memories of there from thirty years ago when she worked as an au pair. Told both present day and back then it becomes apparent that beyond the family she was staying with there were two important people in her life then and it’s interesting to see how the years apart have affected them. I was very intrigued at what had made Juliet flee from Paris and it was quite a sad situation in retrospect but I felt present day Juliet would have been very good for then Juliet which goes to show how life affects us but not always in a bad way, 9/10
After an amicable separation with her husband of 25 years, Juliette finds herself with new found freedom. She makes the decision to go back to the city she fell in love with and to put to bed ghosts that she has never once stopped thinking about.
I absolutely adored this book. It had everything I look for - a strong female character that is true to her emotions, a beautiful backdrop, and memorable and complimentary secondary players. Juliette's account of what she went through thirty years ago works with the story of her journey in present day and enhances the story without being condescending or repetitive. Yes, the ending was predictable but in the most delightful way.
I hope that this story inspires everyone to re-establish themselves when they have the need or want to.
