Thank you to #NetGalley for my copy of #Hunter by #RossGreenwood.
I’m afraid I gave up on this book halfway through and skipped to the last page.
None of the characters are likeable so it was hard to be interested in any of them.

I am a huge fan of Ross Greenwood and would recommend the DI Barton series highly as the author explores various aspects of criminal forms from an an unique, almost empathic, point of view. The series is truly eye opening and great original work.
This new book does not include the point of view of the Inspector in charge of solving the murders, it mainly follows the minds of a short list of main protagonists and their challenges mentally with coping with living in a busy city like London as well as the demands of a young family.
I personally missed an inspector point of view as a main character as in my mind it softens the gruesome story...
As ever, Ross Greenwood delivers a very good storyline which will leave you stunned in the last chapter.
Really would recommend this book and most especially this unique author.

Sadly this book wasn’t for me. It sounded exciting and to be honest some of what I read I did really enjoy but at times I found it a little bit to crude so I gave up with it, but I do think if you can get past that you will enjoy this book.

This is an excellent thriller, and cleverly crafted, which is written from multiple points of view. Definitely not the usual serial killer read! We have the killer, Abel, and a couple struggling with life, children, jobs and city life. Throw in a host of other unusual characters and the author has produced an absolutely engrossing read. It's gripping, filled with suspense and some touches of humour throughout. I highly recommend the read but prepare yourself for a ride! Thanks to Net Galley for my ARC.

Mystery and intrigue. Family and friends…red herrings abound…secrets…this book was sent to me electronically by Netgalley for review. The story moves slowly at times, and the characters are not really likable… that being said, it is a mystery that’s is difficult to put down.

DI Barton is back for another crime mystery, if you’re a fan of Ian Rankin then this book is for you.

I could not put this down, a very dark and twisted tale and the end just blew me away, as I did not see that coming.

Please also note this book was previously released under the title of Abel’s Revenge.

Great book

This had me hooked from the start! I loved that it's dark without being gory and relying in shock value. It's got plenty twists and turns and you just can't figure who is behind it all and what the message means until that final reveal. It does a good job of building that tension and suspenseful atmosphere and it just feels modern and relevant. I'm not a fan of books that feel like they could be set any time in recent history, and more of less and location..... this one sets the scene so well and it all plays out in such a relatable and realistic world and that just adds to the creepy factor! Loved it

Another brilliant read which is highly entertaining and fast-paced. Abel is a serial killer, most of the time he leads an unremarkable life, that is until he turns into a raging monster who changes his method of murder as the body count mounts up. No matter how dark and gruesome the books are, Ross Greenwood always injects some humour into the story, making a more realistic read.

This is a story about a city. As with all others, it's a place of violence. There are murderers, and they live among us. This is also a tale about a couple - sometimes friends, occasionally lovers, but always partners. Dan and Olivia are fighting modern battles; the ones parents have over a lack of money, tome or peace. An escalating killer terrifies the streets and homes. The body count rises as their relationship crumbles. Society reveals its dark side, no one is safe.

This gruesome tale is fast paced. But there is some humor added along the way. Sometimes we are reading about relationships in trouble, and then a gory murder is thrown into the mix. The characters are well developed. filled with twists, this well written story held my attention throughout, and I liked the authors writing style. The story is told in alternating chapters from the characters. This is a cleverly crafted story. I would like to thank #NetGalley #BoldwoodBooks and the author #Rossgreenwood for my ARC of #Hunter in exchange for an honest review.

Ross Greenwood's "Hunter" is electrifying, immersive, and twinged with humour and sarcasm. A gripping psychological thriller that follows the tumultuous relationship of Dan Flood and Olivia Jones amidst the menacing presence of Abel, a fearless predatory serial killer. The book also invites the reader to introspect on various issues; identity, ambition, relationships, routine, addiction, and mental health. The multiple narrations keep you on your toes with hilarious chapter titles. The concise, power-punch three-minute chapter powers the pacing and plot. Ross Greenwood certainly knows how to lure and capture a reader's attention to the t. The ending was jaw-dropping and simply shocking. I am still reeling from the after-shock!

I look forward to reading more from Ross Greenwood. Thank you to NetGalley & Boldwood Books for giving me an ARC. This review is left voluntarily and honestly.

A fantastically enthralling, fast paced and gruesome tale with beautifully balanced injections of humour and keenly observed comments on modern life.
I absolutely love the author’s style of writing and was certainly not disappointed with this book. The flow of the story and characters carries you along rapidly and effortlessly. Sometimes it’s a tale of relationships in trouble and the stresses of work and having a house of young children to raise then suddenly, bam there is a gory murder like it’s the most normal thing in the world.
The characters are thoroughly enjoyable, larger than life and recognisable as people we’ve all known in part, from the quirky to the geeky and lonely and some are very easy to love to hate.
I vaguely guessed at the twist but it still came as a huge shock, genius writing and very enjoyable . I also love the reality aspect of the personality traits and the plausibility and explanation of how this can really happen. I love a bit of criminology and psychology so this, as ever, ticks all the boxes for me. You can really tell that the research was impeccably conducted and the narrative is also packed full of gems and humour, a real quality feast of a book which I was compelled to devour at fast food speed. Immensely satisfying, thank you.

I love this author and you know that once you start reading one of his books they will be impossible to put down. A domestic drama and a serial killer. Seems strange I know but it works. This talented author has brought these two genres together seamlessly. There is humour, chilling in places and revenge so much revenge. I had my list of suspects which i was constantly changing my mind about and I still got it WRONG!!!! This author has done it again and left me speechless and definitely wanting more!!!!
Many thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC in return for giving an honest review.

Hunter
by Ross Greenwood
A psychological thriller, usually I love this type of book. This one was slow, but it did finally pick up speed. Abel is a really evil man, even as a child. When he left home, he changed his name to his middle name, as well as his surname. So, he tries to control his impulses to kill.
Dan Flood, Olivia Jones, and their two young children are a family at breaking point. And in the end, only Dan can save Oliva from the evil one. The ending was a shock slightly.

Hunter by Ross Greenwood

There’s a killer on the streets, and no one is safe…
First there was the drowned man, but maybe his death was an accident?

Then there were the decapitated bodies, the burnt girl, the women pursued in the dark. Finally the police have to admit there’s a serial killer on the loose and he seems set on revenge. His name is Abel and his crimes are escalating every day.
I've read other books by this author and have to say he is very clever with coming up with his plots for his books , they are always fresh , something different from the norm ,and very , very good.
Brilliant ending , lots of twists to keep you guessing. Fab.

Hunter is a bit of a departure for Ross Greenwood. While it's a crime thriller the predatory serial killer Abel's homicidal antics run almost as a backstory to the domestic dramas of Dan Flood and Olivia Jones as they navigate the choppy seas of their relationship. With Abel fast turning into bogeyman as he decapitates, slashes and batters his way across London Dan and Olivia's home life deteriorates with the reader just knowing that at some point their path will cross with the killer as his hunting ground gets closer and closer.
As Abel's reign of terror stokes hysteria throughout the capital city there is no shortage of suspects close to the home of the warring couple , their 2 children and Bailey the flatulent dog with a cast of bizarre and distinctly odd neighbours and tradesmen. Are any of them Abel?
I said this is a departure for Ross Greenwood, rather than the usual "straight" crime thriller it's written very much in the style of Chris Brookmyre with a touch of Nick Spalding, very funny and acutely observant on many aspects of the human condition from relationships ,addictions, mental health and much more,it'll make you think in between the vicious murders and the laughs.
A great read on many levels.
