Becca is watching her best friend Jenn‘s daughter Ivy. When she fails to pick her up at the scheduled time, Becca heads to her house and finds an unthinkable tragedy. Jenn is dead, murdered, and Becca can’t believe anyone would want to hurt this kind and loving librarian, mother, wife, and friend.
The story unfolds through two POV‘s. Becca in the now and Jenn in the past, leading up to the day of her death. We learn about Jenn’s upbringing and why her husband Rick and their daughter Ivy mean the world to her. When her life starts to crumble, she is torn trying to figure out what she should do.
Becca has not only lost her best friend, but she is having a hard time understanding many of Rick’s reactions, and how little he seems to be grieving. As she finally learns what Jenn was going through, her heart breaks knowing the awful choices Jenn felt were her only options. I felt so bad for Jenn throughout most of Just One More. She did not deserve a husband like Rick.
But even in fiction books what we get in life and what we deserve are often two very different things. At first I thought I had the outcome all figured out. Imagine my smug face hitting the ground when I was 100% wrong.
Were there things that both Jenn and Becca did that had me screaming at my Kindle? Yep. It’s so hard to walk in another person‘s shoes though, so eventually I calmed down and figured these two fictional characters were entitled to the choices they made based on the knowledge they had. RIP Jenn.

Oh this was an anxiety inducing edge of your seat novel. I loved it. I was happy Jenn liked her library job. That was not my experience at all. I did not like that being librarian was considered a non career. librarians need masters degrees, endless patience, and ongoing education to be librarians. It is a professional career to be respected.
But the misconception worked in the book.
I'd recommend this to most of my girlfriends.
Don't make a man your entire life.

This story gripped me immediately. Told from alternating points of view and dual timelines, Becca finds her best friend Jenn dead in the bathtub. Jenn, who aged out of foster care and wanted a family more than anything else, would never leave her husband and especially her infant daughter behind. Who would want this quiet librarian dead?

Becca is devastated by her loss and is operating in a daze. Her work and home life both suffer, but then Jenn's attorney husband Rick reaches out in desperation...he's a person of interest, and he is desperate for Becca's help. But in her investigation to find out what happened to her friend, Becca finds the breadcrumbs that Jenn has left behind. Her life with Rick wasn't a happy one, and she is shocked to discover that Rick has a disturbing past that includes two dead wives.

I could feel the grief emanating from both women, but Jenn's storyline shattered me. Her story was told in a grim countdown to the day she drowned in the bathtub, and with every bit that she uncovered about her husband, I became more and more terrified for her. I was dumbfounded at the ending and loved the themes that it encompassed.

For reviewers saying what a vile character Rick was, that's true; he was absolutely horrific, but I'm alarmed at the "victim blaming" with Jenn's character. Saying that her actions were illogical is showing that you've never been in a situation like hers. For that, count yourself blessed.

Thank you so much to NetGalley and Scarlet Suspense/Penzler Publications. JUST ONE MORE publishes March 21, 2023.

I love mystery books but rarely put one at the top of my list. This one is good and worth reading but it’s typical of the Shari Lapena and Gillian Flynn genre. I really enjoyed it but it won’t be a 5 star review for you.

This was a clever plot that begins with the death of one of the narrators. Best friends alternate telling the story, with one telling what led to the murder and the other with the aftermath. The husband quickly becomes a suspect and the author uses and interesting way to present and develop the clues. This will appear to fans of Gillian Flynn, Lucy Foley, and Ruth Ware. Librarians may notice that the job is implied as being easy and stress-free, but in reality it can be plenty stressful and can have long hours (plus many of us also work some nights) and tense meetings and interactions.

This is a good domestic noir but it was not memorable for me. I have read quite a few of this genre and although good- this does not stand out.

Thank you to #NetGalley, Penzler Publications and Annette Lyon for the opportunity to read an advance copy of JUST ONE MORE, to be published 21 March 2023. Wow. A suspenseful, tragic domestic thriller that will haunt me for weeks. It is from two people’s points of view, represented alternately by the protagonist, Jenn, and her best fried, Becca. The end has a twist and turn I least expected. It was phenomenal. #NetGalley #PenzlerPublications #AnnetteLyon #JustOneMore

Just One More by Annette Lyon
Jenn married Rick in a whirlwind romance but quickly starts to question if she really knows her husband at all. After a few conversations with him that leave her questioning him & his past, this librarian puts her research skills to use and learns more than she bargained for. Now with a baby to protect she knows she has to stop the future she’s sure her husband has in store for them.
I enjoyed this book and the ending though not a huge twist was nonetheless satisfying.
I give it a 3.5/4⭐️

Fairly run of the mill domestic thriller with a "twist".

These are coming pretttttty standard if you read enough of them. This one had a different sort of angle but I had just read "All The Dangerous Things" by Stacy Willingham which does the suspense building and ...bad husband better than anyone.

Still, this is good to read on a cold night when nothing is on tv.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for the opportunity to read and review this book.

Thank you NetGalley and Penzler Publishers for the copy of Just One More. What a great start! Becca is babysitting for her best friend Jenna, then finds her dead in the bathtub at home! How can you NOT love this opening chapter? I liked where the title came from and the friendship between Jenn and Becca. The momentum slows down quite a bit when we start learning more about Jenn and Rick, and Jenn starts uncovering Rick’s secrets. I admired her librarian research skills and how she tried to cover up her location and actions. I didn’t understand why she stayed with him, especially since he was not a nice guy even before she learned about his past. Why didn’t she use her librarian skills to find help? At the very least why didn’t she tell Becca she was worried and if anything happened to her to find the evidence in her locker? It was just beyond belief for me. Then the story gets even MORE unbelievable. If you like shocking twists, you will probably love this book, but for me a twist is secondary to the whole story and this one made no sense at all. I can’t say why without spoilers, but I will say the book had a great premise even when Jenn kept everything to herself, but the resolution was too much. 2.5 stars rounded up to 3 because the story had great promise at first for what the book could have been and I liked how it was written for the most part.

Wow! What a book! That was a crazy creepy story! I loved every minute! I agree one hundred percent the way the story went! This book had suspense, intrigue, murder, mystery, kind of a who done it and a crazy tale of basically a serial killer! The storyline was so crazy interesting and had me glued to my Kindle! I read this book in one sitting! I highly recommend reading this book! It was well worth reading! Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for sharing this book with me!

A librarian investigates her husband’s dark past and winds up dead. Now it’s up to her best friend to uncover the truth.
Becca’s life is turned upside down when she finds Jenn dead in the bathtub. Soon she begins to unspool the secrets Jenn kept in life, including a troubled marriage to Rick and two dead wives in his past. The more Becca learns, the more determined she becomes to get justice for Jenn, even if the clues surrounding her death aren’t quite adding up.…

Another great book I thoroughly enjoyed. Told from two perspectives Jenn and Becca we follow the story that leads to Jenn's death of whom her husband becomes a prime suspect. Early on Jenn gets a tattoo wanting to have a piece of her husband with her all the time while also thinking who much he will appreciate the gesture she has made. Unfortunately for Jenn she does not receive the reaction she envisaged and all hell is about to break loose.

Full of tension and suspence, the book moves along very quickly and I was totally taken in for the ride that was about to begin. Becca and Jenn had always had a very special friendship and it will be Becca that will start questioning what really happened to her friend, she will find out that people can have another side that you just don't see unless you are behind closed doors with them and how this has changed the lives of all around her. A great cast of characters that bring the story to life and that I could genuinely relate to.

Thank you to Netgalley, the author and publisher for a copy of the book in exchange for an honest, unbiased review. 4 stars.

*Sigh*
This book had everything in the beginning! A woman drowns in her tub, unexpectedly & her best friend finds her? Superb! I was gripped for about 35% of it. However, once we started seeing Rick for who he really was, it really didn’t keep my attention. I also thought it got very repetitive in the last 20% & found myself skimming through paragraphs. I did really love the characters, Becca & Jenn. I found their friendship really raw & beautiful. The big themes of motherhood & family tied this story together really well.
Overall, I liked it but didn’t love it & ends up only a 3 star for me.

This was most definitely a novel of suspense. It really was like watching a car wreck that you couldn’t look away from. You see the carnage about to happen but you can’t stop it and you just watch it happen. That’s what reading this book was like. I found myself cringing at the way Jenn’s husband would speak to her. I didn’t start off on the edge of my seat, but I started to sit up a little and scoot to the edge of my seat as the book got further along because I needed to see how it would all come together. This was not a debut for Annette Lyon but it was a debut in this genre and I have to say kudos! This was very much a job well done. Thank you to netgalley and the publish r do this ARC!

This a very well-written book. I was hooked on page one and had to keep reading, no matter the time and work coming early. Brilliant how Annette Lyon just slammed me upside the head in the end. I actually yelled"NO DAMN WAY". And laughed . One of my favorites for a very long time.
