Absolutely love this book. This author never misses! The characters are so complex and the friendships depicted are so realistic - I couldn't put it down.

I did enjoy this but found it a bit tough going at the beginning. I’m glad I kept going with it as it picked up about 30% into it. Such a shame as it would have been brilliant otherwise. Definitely worth a read and stick with it.
Thank you Netgalley

I always know I am going to enjoy McFarlane's books so I was eager to get stuck into this. For the most part I was right that this is an entertaining, humorous and at times, sad and emotional read. This book does take a while to get going and I think the beginning could have been shortened so we have longer to enjoy the main plot. However, I did still enjoy the plot and there are plenty of moments of laughter and joy. McFarlane's characters are great as I have come to expect and I liked getting to know the individual characters as well as see how they blend together.
Thank you to NetGalley and HarperCollins UK for an advance copy.

Everything is good in Roisin's world!. Things are great with her and Joe and she is going away for the weekend with a group of her friends to celebrate a birthday and an engagement, but they are also going to gather round and toast Joe’s success as a screen writer with a new drama about to hit TV screens. But are things really that perfect?.
It soon becomes clear that Joe wasnt in love with her and was using her for his new TV show as when it appears on TV things she had told him that were personal and secret are suddently all over the TV. She no longer knows what is true and what isnt
Brilliantly written

This one took me a while to get into, I personally found the lead up to the ‘main event’ the new tv show took too long and then the spiral after it was slow then over before it got very juicy.
I’ve given it a 3 stars because I enjoyed the ending, it sped up and I liked the characters. But the beginning and half of the middle I was wanting more.
I also found the layout of chapters interesting, they fell into each other seamlessly and I’ve not read a book like that recently so found it hard to get used to.
Is it my favourite book by this author no but I’ll still keep reading her work for sure. This one is just a personal preference.

Thanks to the publishers & NetGalley for the ARC.
I’m a big fan of McFarlane so you best believe I raced to press the request button when I saw this title available.
The book tells the story of Roisin and Joe as well as their friends, all of whom worked at Waterstones in the noughties. It weaves between funny, serious and deeply uncomfortable as Roisin and Joe’s relationship unravels in the hands of a TV script that is too close to home for Roisin.
It’s deeper than you may expect from the cover but it proves an interesting read for sure.

Friendships formed while working a ‘first’ job in Waterstones. 10 years later there’s a triple celebration party set for a weekend extravaganza. An engagement, a birthday and the celebration of a shiny new tv show.
Roisin and Joe’s relationship is solid, they’ve a lot to be celebrating but when Roisin realises that Joe’s tv show is about her past trauma she knows the game is up and finally can see through their floundering relationship. It’s over,
A great story almost like a reverse romance novel with in depth storyline about the characters. It’s also unusual to have such an unlikeable mmc in Joe. Overall another hit from Mairi

Thank you to NetGalley and HarperCollins UK for providing a free copy in exchange for an honest review. I am no stranger to Mhairi McFarlane’s writing and am a big fan of her work. If you’re expecting a smutty romance then this book is not for you as it’s women’s fiction. The premise was really interesting and unique in the sense that I don’t think it has been done before. I really love our FMC, Roisin but I wish there was more character development. I like how Mhairi wrote about healing from an emotionally abusive relationship full of gaslighting. However, the pacing was too slow for my liking.

Really enjoyed this. Heart warming, amazing characters and loved the plot. First book I’ve read by this author in a while & forgot how much I enjoyed her books.

Its been a long time since ive read a Mhairi Mcfarlane book and this one did not disappoint.
Was an enjoyable read with some great characters.
Her stories always feel like they could happen in real life

Mhairi McFarlane is a must read for me since I discovered her a few books ago. All of her works are solid, explore certain themes yet remain lighthearted with a romance weaved in.
Roisin and Joe met years ago whilst working in Waterstones and whilst they join their friends for a weekend in the country for a triple celebration. As the weekend unfolds there is drama, tensions and a realisation that Joe based his new tv series on their relationship including things that she had never told another soul and was meant to be "between us". With supporting characters bearing a resemblenace to their friends Roisin wonders what else is based on real life or not...
She returns home to help run her family pub and sort through her messy feelings.
Overall a lovely emotional read.

This was my first time reading a book from the author but I am delighted to say I thoroughly enjoyed the story and I look forward to reading more books from the writer in the future

This was fantastic! It almost felt like a thriller.
Mhairi may as well pull up a chair and stay forever on my favourites list, at least in the years she has a book out. Mhairi is of course successful in her own right, but if you love Emily Henry, please try Mhairi McFarlane. Like, talk about romantic dramedies that hit on all fronts, a craft wheel that has been spinning for over ten years without a flop. If you don’t believe me, believe Nichole Perkins. Mhairi is a legend!

Funny and Smart = when you think you know when where the story is going and are delighted to find you are wrong.
Full of insight

the writing was solid, as it always is with this author but I felt a spark missing.
This is definitely not the book you going into if you want an easy read, and though, that’s been a theme with all Mhairi’s latest books - I wasn’t prepared.
So the question for me was, is it me, or is it the book? After three restarts I’m still not sure.
The author is absolutely wonderful at creating flawed and relatable characters that make you question your own life and relationships, this just didn’t pull me in like she usually does.

Mhairi McFarlane is a go-to author for me, I’ll read anything she writes!
Between Us is another 5 star read, that has you full of hope, love and the laugh out loud moments that they all do.

I'm yet to come across a Mhairi McFarlane book that I don't enjoy. Witty and clever, this told the story of Roisin and Joe. (Awful, awful Joe!) McFarlane does characters and dialogue so well, this was a treat,

Okay so I'm a big Mhairi McFarlane fan and whilst I love her writing I've decided that this one isn't for me.
This deals with topics that I find myself not wanting to read about and I've come to the conclusion that I don't need to read about things that make me uncomfortable even if I love the author.
If this one appeals to you then definitely pick it up! I love her books and look forward to seeing what she writes in the future.
3 stars because its Mhairi

A cute, quick and easy read that I couldn't put down. Well written with a funny story line and well developed characters

Overall a good book.
Many different intertwining strands in the story.
I liked it but not loved it.
I would recommend however.
