Chalice of Darkness by Sarah Rayne

London in 1908 and the Fitzglen family run a theatre which is very well respected and frequented by the London public.
However , they have a secret , they are also established thieves , and good at it as well.
Jack's latest heist takes him up North to Northumberland to Vallow Hall because within it is the Talisman Challice , and he wants it , at whatever cost.
Great plot , lots of twists , intriguing characters.

A gripping read that I couldn't put down. Well written with a storyline that hooked me right fromt he start and charcaters that were well developed, with some more likable than others.

Jack Fitzglen, of the famous Fitzglen Theatre Families, is determined to find the Talisman Chalice,
He wants to feature it on stage, but in order to find it, he has to find Maude, the last known link to the Chalice. Little does he know the dangers that await him: in the wrong hands, the Chalice will drag him or her into a darkness that will never let go.
It's an enjoyable read with Jack and Maude as very likeable characters. Maud's evil husband, on the other hand, is despicable: a character to hate without let-up.
Another thrilling read from this author, who I've been following for years; definitely recommended!
