Jill Mansell never disappoints, and this is another brilliant novel! Every character has their own life and personality, each character manages to worm their way into your heart. And yet it never loses pace!
Completely heartwarming, charming and a little bit cathartic!

I really enjoyed this book. Jill Mansell never disappoints.
A heart warming story that has twists that make you cheer and cry.
Hoping to that there is a follow on book with the stories of the supporting characters.
It was left at the perfect ending for this to happen and still include the current main characters follow up.
A wonderful book.

Omg! Loved this book! Edgar is so cute! He has a grudge with anyone and everyone in the village and surrounding area but somehow a dog and a conscientious woman changes that! Loved how Lou changed Edgar's world in more ways than one.

Loved Remy's involvement and the fact Edgar begrudginly (at first) sent christmas cards to the people in the village, to make amends and spread christmas cheer. Surprising even Edgar along the way when going through the address books by finding his old flame!

Lou and Captain Oates made a huge impact on Edgar and there is a soft side hidden under the grumpy exterior! This book was brilliant, I can't recommend it enough! I've always loved Jill's books and they are usually page turners from the start!

A delightful feel-good read! This heartwarming story was a pleasure. I fell in love with the characters and the setting. Its set a cozy countryside town with charming characters, with plenty of drama! I really fell in love with Edgar and Captain Oates. Loved to hate a few characters. It really was a very well written story and though I can't say there were any major twists, I was thoroughly entertained. Another fantastic read by Jill Mansell.

This was such a lovely feel-good read, perfect for a lazy Sunday morning. I really enjoyed the characters, and I think this is probably one of my favourites from this author.
The pairing of Captain Oates and Edgar is guaranteed to melt even the coldest of hearts, and the other romances were delightful as well.

A joyful, heartwarming novel will characters you could really invest in. The plot was a bit predictàble which spoiled it a little for me, but it was still very enjoyable and made me smile.

A Jill Mansell book never disappoints, not for me anyway. Lou was such a lovely character, as was Remy, and Sammy. The two romances were lovely. I loved Captain Oates and the way he bonded with Edgar. I liked Edgar and wished he'd had a happier ending. Della and her son and daughter weren't nice characters. but they obviously brought in some conflict. I really enjoyed this book and was sorry when I reached the end. With thanks to NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I love this author, and this book certainly didn’t disappoint. We are taken on a wonderfully heart-warming journey of love and friendships with the main character Lou. Lou is visiting her childhood friend, Sammy when she bumps into grumpy 80-year-old, Edgar Allsopp. Edgar isn’t the easiest man to get on with, but he seems to take a begrudging shine to Lou and makes her an offer she can’t refuse. I loved Lou’s character and connected with her straight away. I’ve worked as a carer and have come across many grumpy old men like Edgar in my time and knew right from their first meeting that they would end up being friends.

The storyline moves along at the perfect pace, building up not only Edgar and Lou’s relationship, but also Lou’s relationship with childhood friend, Remy. Remy was lovely and I soon realised why Lou had fell for his charms so easily the first-time round – I just hoped she trod more carefully this time! Most of the characters were likeable and I was caught up with their storylines. I have to admit to not really liking Della, but I suppose that was the whole point! My favourite had to be our four-legged friend, Captain Oates and I thought the relationship between him and Edgar was just absolutely delightful!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, there was so much to be captivated by. Each of the characters has their own little side story, yet they all come together so well. It did have me in tears at certain parts of the book, but there was still plenty of fun, love and laughter throughout. This was the perfect book for me, and I was sad to finish it! Would definitely recommend!

Opening a new Jill Mansell book is like sinking into a lovely warm bath or a comfy bed with clean sheets - it’s one of my favourite things to do. This story is as easy to read as you would expect, full of detailed characters & humour. I especially liked the relationship between Lou & Edgar and was surprised by how emotional I felt as the book neared it’s end. I loved it & am very grateful for the advanced copy from Net Gallery.

I absolutely loved this.

Edgar took a while to warm to as I just thought he was a grumpy old man, oh what a delight he turned out to be and he had me with tears in my eyes.

Lou is a star, and there are a few people who were awful not naming names.

This story of Edgar will stay in my heart just beautiful.

A comforting warm hug in the middle of winter, this book is a sheer delight! Jill is such an accomplished writer; her characters are well written and believable. I really enjoyed her latest offering!

Absolutely delightful as is all of Jill’s books. This one I devoured in 24hrs! One minute Lou is happily employed, with a perfect flat. The next, her home and job have gone. Suddenly she has to start over.

The last thing Lou wants is to move to a tiny Cotswolds village. She certainly doesn't intend to work for curmudgeonly eighty-year-old Edgar Allsopp. But Edgar is about to make her the kind of promise nobody could ignore. In return, she secretly vows to help him fall in love with life again.
Foxwell is also home to Remy, whose charm and charisma are proving hard to ignore. But Lou hasn't recovered from the last time she fell for a charmer. She needs a distraction - and luckily one's about to turn up.
Secrets never stay hidden for long in Foxwell, nor are promises always kept.
What a gorgeous book! The author has a great gift for characterisation - nuanced, interesting, believable people but created with a charming lightness of touch. Thanks to a great author we have warmth, wisdom and emotional intelligence, this book was a huge pleasure to read! Top marks!

Promise Me. Now, I love a good Jill Mansell story and I read this one, one of hers, after a while. The story did not disappoint as the characters were so much fun and happy to get along with, even the grumpy ones. I especially loved the ending.

I really enjoyed this , an absolutely fantastic read, great storyline and a wonderful cast of characters. Extremely well written , so much so I could easily imagine Foxwell and its inhabitants in my mind’s eye. Highly recommended.

I loved it! It is a fast-paced story, with unexpected twists and turns, a small town setting in Britain, and very loveable characters. It captured me from the very first minute and I was really sorry when it ended. I also loved the author's style. It was a really enjoyable read and I'm happy to have found it. I can wholeheartedly recommend it to everybody.

I am a long term Jenny Colgan fan. There is nothing better than sitting curled up with a nice feel good book but sadly this just didn’t hit the mark. It started off well, with the kind hearted Lou now jobless and agreeing to work for the rich old curmudgeon Edgar. The ending was predictable (which isn’t a bad thing) but Lou was too much of a doormat and a couple of the scenes were a bit too ridiculous for me.
