As always, an utterly charming book from Jill Mansell with some completely adorable characters in the form of Edgar and his new canine pal Captain Oates - for me, these are the characters that I most took into my heart. You just know that behind those grumpy irascible facades there simply has to be a vulnerability and warmth just waiting to be unveiled!
We have all the ingredients of a great story: heroes and villains, romance and subterfuge, and lots of highs and lows and twists and turns It is humorous but also moving and heart-warming and I really enjoyed my journey into Lou's new life which we somehow knew was going to be so much more than first portrayed. I very much enjoyed this!

Meet Lou, jobless and single as she moves to a remote Cotswold village that’s home to her best friend. The cantankerous Edgar seems like an unlikely saviour but can he be the one to help Lou get her life back on track (perhaps with a little diversion via the single male population of the village along the way). The perfect read, warm and funny. Thanks NetGalley!

A great read that is well written, has a story that grabbed me straight away and well developed charcaters that I loved.

What a wonderful book! As always with Jill Mansell a fabulous read, heart warming, a bit of romance, twists and turns with a few surprises and a lovely uplifting ending. What more could anyone want from a book?
Put aside all the things you should be doing, grab a cuppa and sink into this lovely story…. The world will wait whilst you luxuriate and sink into a warm and happy place!
Thank you to Netgalley, the author and publishers for an ARC in exchange for an honest review

Another enjoyable, heart warming story from Jill Mansell. I know her books will never disappoint.
Lou visits an old friend and a chance encounter with Edgar leads to an offer of work she can't refuse
Friendships, dogs and, of course, love.

A chance meeting with a gentleman in a supermarket leads to him making Lou an offer that's too good to turn down, but can Lou hold out her end of the deal?
A charming chick lit read, the characters are likeable and well developed and the setting a nice escape. It's an easy read, which I found impossible to put down for the last 30 pages - a very satisfying ending!

I received a free copy of Promise Me, by Jill Mansell, from the publisher and Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. There are a lot of characters in this book, Lou is my favorite, I did not like Della at all. Edgar took awhile to grow on me, but he did. A nice read.

Whenever I sit down with a Mansell book I know I am going to fall in love with the characters, location and story and this was a real treat! I absolutely adored the plot, it is full of humour, love and friendship. I also thought this was a highly emotional read and it brought tears to my eyes on more than one occasion. The story of Lou and Edgar is simply delightful and I adored losing myself in their world. Foxwell is a delightful village and I wish it was real!
As I have said the characters are wonderful, the perfect blend of personalities and people that definitely felt like friends. 'Promise Me' is another gorgeous read from Mansell.
Thank you to NetGalley and Headline for an advance copy.

Another fantastic read from Jill, heartwarming, emotive and captivating!
A wonderful idyllic setting in the Cotswolds, great characterisation and a wholesome feel good read!
Lou a carer is down on her luck and in need of a new job, enter eccentric, grumpy Edgar who persuades Lou with an offer she can’t refuse to work for him as a live in carer!
Despite being a curmudgeonly character Edgar begins to enjoy Lou’s attempts at making him a more sociable, amenable and ultimately a happier person, especially once he has adopted Captain Oakes an equally disgruntled dog!
Life in the village is never staid, and everyone is entitled to a second chance at love as Lou finds out in a convoluted way!
Second chances, dodgy choices, compassion, realisation and love make for a wonderfully uplifting read.
Thank you netgalley for this early read.

Oh I loved this book. It is warm, whitty and full of joy. Heartwarming and uplifting too.
Lou is needing to start over, her husband (although not a very nice one) has died, she has just lost her job and been turfed out of her home.
So she goes back home where her friends are. Where she has been offered a job, home and the promise of a brighter better future that she simply cannot turn down.
However the job is tending, looking after and being assistant to grumpy old man Edgar. But there is lots more to Edgar than meets the eye. But as they begin to grow on each other it's not just Edgar who begins to evolve and change but Lou too.
Throw in two handsome brothers and a adorable is cranky doggo and you have the recipe for a fantastic feel good romantic book.
I simply adored it.

Well after being in a bit of a reading slump recently, I just knew I could rely on Jill Mansell to help me out of it!
Lou is off to visit her old friend Sammy in the Cotswolds village where he lives. After she arrives and Sammy is delayed meeting her, she crosses paths with a cantankerous old man who is known locally as 80 year old loner Edgar. Lou find herself helping him home after a slip and giving him her phone number, which Edgar uses to his advantage in persuading Lou to move in as his full time career in return for the deal of a lifetime.
Lou, lonely since the death of her husband (more of that story to be revealed) and pleased to be living in the same village as Sammy and his gorgeous older brother Remy, takes to village life immediately. Until a few unexpected new arrivals mean that Lou’s life is about to be changed forever……
I just love Jill’s books - long long time reader - and they never fail to make me email, cry and enjoy the many little Easter eggs she does in from her previous novels. Promise Me was no exception.
Thank you NetGalley and Headline books for kindly allowing me to read and review.

Quite Delicious….
A new Jill Mansell is always a treat, practically guaranteed to give the reader all of the requirements for a feel good, entertaining and satisfying escape. This tale of second opportunities set in a delightful Cotswolds village lives up to the usual standard and doesn’t disappoint. The cast of characters is well crafted and credible, the narrative immersive and peppered with humour, emotional turmoil and romance. Quite delicious.

I loved this book because of the story between Edgar and Lou. Wow, what an emotional rollercoaster. This book made me cry and laugh. It captures loneliness and kindness perfectly. Wish there were more Lou's in this world. I love how Jill Mansell writes about human relationships and the cherry on the top is then the romance. A great read.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for letting me review this book.

Absolutely brilliant. Oh what a story with lovely twists and the perfect ending.. I loved how it made fame not what we all think it is.. So many wonderful characters. Lou was a carer and ending up looking after a grumpy old man called Edgar who was wealthy. There was an old flame, some great love elements. Laugh out moments and a neat tidy fab ending and a sort of cute dog. Read it

I look forward to a new Jill Mansell book every year ever since I discovered her writing over 30 years ago……… and she never disappoints with likeable characters, a few nasty pieces of work and a few adorable animals thrown in for good measure! Her books are a delight to read - feel good fiction at its very best - and I devoured this one in one sitting. Lou, Edgar, Remy, Sammy, Jess, Tom, Della and the rest of the residents of this book are well written and (mostly) likeable. If you are a fan of Jill, or if you are new to her fab books, curl up in your favourite armchair, grab a cuppa and a pack of biscuits and settle down for a gorgeously romantic adventure. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Promise Me by Jill Mansell
I think I've read most of her books and I think the author is incapable of writing a bad novel , and this one is no different . A captivating , lovely , lovely read.
It is the perfect book to pick up when you want to lose yourself for an hour or two .
Fantastic characters in Lou & Edgar and even Captain Oates !
Great location and the way she describes it you can imagine yourself there watching as an observer .
A worthy 5 stars .

Jill Mansell is one of my favourite authors (as evidenced by the number of books listed before this story begins which I have read) and this is definitely one of my favourites. A wide range of characters of various ages feature in the book. The story is one of setbacks and optimism, family and friends, of course with complicated relationships. It has its funny moments and sad moments. At times I became so involved with the characters, I wanted to jump into the pages of the book and join them. Don’t miss out on reading this book.

The most heart-warming of heart-warming five-star reads. Honestly, I have enjoyed this author work in the past for many, many years but this one had something extra added to it, and I think it came in the form of grumpy Chihuahua, he was just a little extra something that added a whole extra layer to the story. Edgar Allsopp really is just such a brilliant character, at first you can’t help but really wonder how he has lived as long as he has without someone putting something in his coffee, but then the lovely Lou warms him up to us, like a warm and delicious hot chocolate. But its not just about Lou and Edgar, there is the lovely Sammy, as well as Jess and all her self-doubt, that added a realness to the story. Then there is Remy and all of his surprises. This is a great story, its heart-warming, romantic and real, it will make the perfect read no matter what you are in the mood for.

I have been reading this authors books for years and I feel like I have grown up with them. I love how they write about real life in a very sensitive and compassionate way
Promise me is a really poignant read which really touches your heart and pulls at your heart strings and the characters come to life on the page. I had a soft spot for Edgar and mr Oates and loved how his relationship with Lou developed and how they both gave something to each other and how Lou blossomed and grew in confidence.
This was an uplifting yet heartwarming read with some laugh out loud moments and some parts that made me very emotional.
This story will stay with me for a long time after reading.

I wish I could put my finger on why a Jill Mansell book is like getting a huge big bear cuddle - you just now you're in for a fantastic read and this one is no different. Heartfelt, funny and a well written novel, I loved it.
Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for an early copy in return for an honest review.
