Finlay’s chaotic life as a mystery writer turned accidental sleuth continues to entertain. The plot is engaging, blending humor with suspense, but it can feel a bit too far-fetched at times. Some moments of the story were predictable, and the pacing slowed down in certain sections. While it’s an enjoyable mystery, it doesn't quite reach the level of its predecessor. Fans of the series will still find it entertaining, but it lacks the charm and tension that made the first book shine.
Sadly not a fan - the first book was enjoyable but I didn’t love it, and this one was even less enjoyable for me unfortunately
Previous books in this series are funny and refreshing. This book didn’t disappoint and I loved it. Had me laughing out loud many times
Still very much enjoying the world of Finlay Donovan. Although am now at the lining when I am wanting more from the side characters.
These books are wild but low stakes and fun. Finlay is easily the dumbest main character I’ve ever read but I adore her. I love this series!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Finlay and Vero are back again in the third book in the Finlay Donovan series, “Finlay Donovan Jumps the Gun”!
I can’t lie, I LOVE these books and these characters, but I went into this book with low expectations because I haven’t been disappointed yet and I am waiting to be. BUT again, I was not disappointed!
Finlay Donovan is one of my favourite MCs! She is hilarious and I feel like every woman who watches Criminal Minds believes that they could cover up a murder, and she just proves that that’s true! 😂
Again, Finlay and Vero gave me multiple laughs and they are still one of my favourite book friendships. I can’t wait to see what happens next with them!
Elle Cosimano is hilarious. Her one-liners are top tier, and as much as I adore Finlay and Vero, I would love to see her work with other characters in the future!
I would STILL definitely recommend picking up the Finlay Donovan series if you haven’t already, especially if you are wanting something that deals with serious issues in a comedic way.
(Thank you to Headline and Netgalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.)
Hot on the heels of finishing book two in this series, I thought I'd jump straight into book three as I'll be reading the new instalment in the upcoming month.
Finlay and Vero's adventures pick up right from where they left off and the calamities continue. How these two women manage to find themselves in the face of danger so often is beyond me, but it's hilarious and makes for entertaining reading.
I really liked the setting of this book. The irony of Finlay and Vero going on simulation police training resulted in lots of sneaking around, lots of sticky situations (how one finds themselves handcuffed to a toilet roll holder I do not know) and if you've already read the other books, inevitably, some romance. There was a higher level of sophistication to their investigation in this book which is to be expected, they've had two books worth of practise.
Finlay Donovan Jumps the Gun has been my favourite in the series so far. There were lots of laugh out loud moments and the banter between Finlay and Vero was top notch. A great quick and pacey read that I thoroughly enjoyed.
Finlay is back and up to no good, such an entertaining character to read about.
I’m happy to catch back up with Finlay, however I did prefer the first book.
Thank you for my e-arc Netgally and the publisher!
Finaly Donovan books are always such easy, fun cosy mystery thrillers. They never fail to get a giggle out of me either. Always think they'd make a fantastic TV show.
Finlay Donovan is at it again! In this third book of the series Finlay and her nanny/partner-in-crime Vero just cannot stay out of trouble but they somehow continue to find a way to survive the trouble that they stir up. This time they are taking their trouble making ways to the citizen's police academy for a week of training. They should be safe there, but there are many people looking for this notorious duo. The Russian mob has contacted them that their debt is due and the boss Feliks wants them to find a contract killer, "EasyClean", before the cops. They determine that the killer might actually be a cop himself, so they find the perfect cover when Finlay's cop crush starts up a citizen's police academy and they are two of his recruits. While there they use their most outlandish strategies to uncover the killer while Finlay juggles motherhood, a budding romance, finishing her book and the people that want the answers much faster than she can uncover them. just when you think they have it figured out there is a twist that you don't see coming.
This book is a fun, lighthearted mystery with a lot of humor mixed in. This is definitely a series to not be taken too seriously. The plots are always a bit outlandish and that is what makes them fun and engaging. The friendship between Finlay and Vero is one of a kind and their unconventional ways tend make their troubles worse instead of better. They portray strong women who somehow juggle all the craziness in their lives in stride. Your best bet is to read the series in order and not as standalone books. There are too many connections between the books and you may not catch all the storyline references without having prior knowledge of the series.
Once again, Finlay and Vero left me wanting more and I look forward to more installments in this fast-paced, comical and full of adventure series!
I am grateful to Headline Publishing and Netgalley for the opportunity to read this fabulously fun book in exchange for an honest review.
I find this series so addictive, glad to read the latest instalment!
Thanks so much to NetGalley and the publishers for letting me read an advance copy of this book in exchange for my review.
I’ve had Elle Cosimano’s third Finlay book sitting on my NetGalley shelf for longer than I care to admit.
Anyhoo, the reason why I waited so long was because I hadn’t enjoyed the second book in the series very much. When I was in need for something brainless and easy the other night, I figured I might finally give this one a go.
And I’m glad I did. Unlike its sophomore sibling, Finlay Donovan Jumps the Gun was a lotta fun. Yes, just like the first two in the series, you have to suspend your disbelief when it comes to Finlay and Vero’s antics, but in this case I enjoyed reading about their crazy endeavours — they were written well enough for me to forgive the rest.
As ever, Finlay and Vero get themselves in all kinds of pickles and tend to make the most outrages choices in their attempts to extract themselves. But, without giving too much away, by the end of this one both women as well as a certain ex-husband and police-officer love interest remain alive and kicking and so here’s hoping the next instalment turns out to be as much fun as this one was!
Another brilliant instalment in the Finlay Donovan series. Really good fun to read with a pacy plot and loads of action. Be interesting to see if there is another book planned as not sure what else could happen to them!
I really enjoyed the previous two Finlay Donovan books, and whilst this book was an enjoyable read, it was very much a sequel, and set the scene for the next instalment, in a 'to be continued' way.
The plot lines are becoming quite complex, so I would have appreciated a 'story so far' summary of the previous books, and a list of the characters and their relation to Finlay and Vero.
All that said, this is a funny female led story that I would recommend to fans of the first two books, and I will definitely continue to read this series.
This was just as fun as the previous two books in the series.
I have to be honest though, the storylines do seem to be getting more and more crazier, which doesn't always leave it feeling all that believable in places.
But when you've read the first two books you're definitely invested enough to overlook some of that.
I loved the setting of this instalment and I was hooked the whole way through, yet again.
If you're in a reading slump or looking for something to take your mind off something, I would definitely recommend picking up this series.
I'm already looking forward to the next book.
Thank you to Netgalley for providing me with an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Another fun instalment of the series as fun and chaotic as the previous ones with just as much going on with every page turn. I sure there is more to come and it would be even more fun than this one.
Such enormous fun! I loved this so much I immediately headed over to Amazon to pick up the two books that preceded this. But I didn't need to have read them to enjoy Jumps the Gun, as Elle dribbles in little bits of the previous plot, just enough to make sense of what we're reading. The characters are amazingly well drawn, each slightly cliched, enough to make the reader grin, but not so much that they are eye-rollingly boring. And lots of lovely volte-face plot points to keep the story racing ahead.
Can't recommend this enough!
I really enjoyed the previous two Finlay Donovan books, so I was excited to dive into the latest instalment. I’ve heard that this series is going to be six books long and to be honest, I’m undecided whether I’ll carry on but we’ll see how I feel when book 4 appears.
Finlay and her nanny (and accountant) Vero totalled a car while trying to save Finlay’s ex husband Steven’s life. The Russian mob bailed them out by buying the car but now they owe the gangsters a big favour. In the name of research for Finlay’s latest romantic suspense novel, Finlay and Vero find themselves enrolling in police academy on the hunt for the true identity of EasyClean and potentially some flirting with the gorgeous Nick. Oh and they’ve also somehow got two feral children to take care of too.
Once again, Finlay and Vero are at the centre of covering up horrific crimes and flying right under everyone’s radar in the process. Young, jittery Cam kept popping up and I wanted to protect him from the horrors that he was witnessing. He seems like way too much of a cinnamon roll to be anywhere near these people and I was constantly worried for his safety and wellbeing.
Finlay and Vero’s friendship still manages to shine and although it is revealed in this book that they perhaps don’t know everything about each other, they’re still as strong as ever. Finlay sees Vero as her life partner and considers them ‘raising kids together’. Maybe it’s stuff for the fanfic but I would love to see a sapphic vibe emerging between them eventually. It would bring me, and I’m sure many other readers, so much joy!
However, it does seem that both Finlay and Vero are very straight. Sometimes I feel like I pick up on sexual tension between them but female friendships are so often right on the edge of it that I struggle to tell. Finlay’s sexual debriefs with Vero made me laugh several times and I am still really enjoying the snarky, spicy humour in these books.
Finlay Donovan Jumps The Gun isn’t as good and gripping as its two predecessors. I found my attention waning several times in this book, which was a huge shame. However, I do still love the characters. I think the plot of this one just felt a bit too serious and the tongue-in-cheek comedy was pretty absent (rightly -it would have felt quite out of place). I want more light-heartedness in future Finlay Donovan novels because I don’t really go into them expecting genuinely high stakes or an ominous tone.
Single mum Finlay and Vero (the nanny are the perfect team especially if you want to laugh . entertaining and slightly compulsive reading the twists of a mob setting romance and humour keeps you wanting more and more
Finlay has got herself in a mess with the Russian mob and ends up in fire arm training and forensic classes with her nanny vero. Can she complete the task she’s been asked in such a short space of time. Great read
Another enjoyable instalment in the Finlay Donovan saga! What I loved most about this book is we got even more about our favourite sidekick Vero! It's not my favourite of the series, but its still progressing the story. I'm enjoying the absolute mess that they get themselves into and I'm enjoying how they pull themselves back out.
The romance is still a slow-burn and I love that with each book we learn a little more about Finlay's family too. I'm enjoying that this one was less focused on a burial or an attempt to hide a body, it made for a fresh change and I'm very much looking forward to what happens next!!
