I thoroughly enjoyed the previous two books in this series but sadly this one was a bit of a miss for me. I really don't like the character of Finlay's ex-husband and Finlay's behaviour really started to grate on me. The scenarios seemed to get sillier and I was struggling to believe some of them. I will probably pick up the next book in the series but I wish I had enjoyed this one more.
Thank you for the advanced copy for review.
although this wasn’t quite as good as the others I still think this is the funniest murder mystery series I’ve ever read. This was still a 4.5 star book and Finaly is possibly one of my favourite ever FMC.
It’s easy to read, you get through them really quick and it really does make you giggle throughout! I recommend this series highly
After her previous adventures in being mistaken for a hit woman, Finlay is back. The only problem is she owes the Russians a favour.
This is the third book in the series but honestly it would work just as good as a stand alone. It was a barrel of laughs, and I really enjoyed it, despite it not being my usual type of book.
Finlay Donovan is back. It’s s new year and Finlay is sorting herself out, no more men, no more missing deadlines, no more dead bodies! But wait a minute she still owes the Russians a favour and there’s a loose end to tie up and it just might be a dirty cop! Obviously this is Finlay Donovan so nothing goes to plan she and hurt trusty sidekick Vero end up at a police training camp trying to smoke out the bent copper and keep themselves out of trouble without being distracted by hot cop Nick and his super sexy silver tipped cane. This was a barrel of fun monkeys as usual, if you liked the previous books you’ll like this one, there’s finally some movement in Nick and Finlay’s relationship and we get a bit more background about Vera. Vera is the worst, yes she helps bury the bodies but she also actively gets Finlay into more messes than she needs to and don’t look too closely at the plotting it’s leakier than a colander but still it’s a cop car full of fun!
This is the third Finlay Donovan book and her and Vero are once again getting themselves into awkward situations with mob bosses, hot police officers and loan sharks. This is an enjoyable series that is a easy read with a bit of humour as well. Looking forward to see what's in store next.
Finlay Donovan Jumps the Gun is the third book of this series. These books are so much fun and really fast-paced. I love Finlay's chaotic life. Finlay Donovan books are my ultimate comfort reads. I'll definitely pick the next book up. If you like a cozy mystery with romance you should definitely check out this series.
Finlay Donovan Jumps the Gun by Elle Cosimano is a fast-paced and witty mystery novel that keeps the reader engaged from beginning to end. The story follows Finlay Donovan, a single mother turned accidental amateur sleuth, who gets entangled in a murder investigation involving her own client. With the help of her quirky and charismatic friend Vero, Finlay navigates through a web of lies and secrets to uncover the truth behind the crime.
The characters in this book are well-developed and likable, especially Finlay, who is a relatable and flawed protagonist. The plot is filled with twists and turns that keep the reader guessing until the very end. The writing is clever and humorous, with just the right amount of suspense and intrigue.
Overall, Finlay Donovan Jumps the Gun is a delightful and entertaining read that is perfect for fans of cozy mysteries and amateur sleuths.

finlay donovan jumps the gun - elle cosimano
if you’re a fan of a cosy mystery, you need to meet finlay donovan - failing author, single mum and accidental assassin.
this is my third adventure with finlay and her nanny vero, so i won’t give too much away but here’s what you need to know: finlay’s cheating husband has left her for a pretty blonde called theresa and her writing career is going nowhere. between custody battles, potty training, avoiding bills and keeping her agent happy there’s a lot going on, so the last thing finlay expects is to be mistaken for a hit woman while pitching her latest novel to her agent. from there, all manner of hijinx ensue.
because i loved the first book so much, i was thrilled to get the chance to read an early copy of book 3 and then because i’m me i got distracted. i’m a lot like finlay in that way.
anyway, much like the first two, this one is a wild ride of russian mobsters, angry loan sharks, hot cops, potential ex husband killers and deadlines. finlay and vero have found themselves at police training academy for book research but also to find a dirty cop, hide from a loan shark and appease the mob, so expect plenty of giggles and ridiculous (in the best way) scenes. all three books in the finlay donovan series are out now. thank you to @netgalley for the early copy.

This is a delightful gem from beginning to end. I have been captivated and completely unwilling to put this one down.
In December, I binge-read the first two books in the Finlay Donovan series and I could not wait for the third book to come out.
The series revolves around newly divorced thirty-something romantic suspense author and mum of two, Finlay Donovan. She goes out to lunch with her agent to tell her about her new plot and gets mistaken for an assassin. And… chaos ensues. Dead bodies pile up. Things get super complicated. Love triangles form. You get the idea. The series as a whole is a LOT of fun.
As for Finlay Donovan Jumps the Gun, I feel that this was the book I enjoyed the most. I felt like there was less of a focus on Finlay's love life allowing her to figure out what she wants and deserves in a partner.
Do I spend most of the time questioning the main character's decisions? Obviously. But she does make some good choices along the way and I'll allow you to discover those for yourself.
There are also less dead bodies in this one but the stakes feel so much higher as multiple parties are closing in. This lingers even after the last page which left me dying to read the next book.
In terms of reading experience, I had a really good time. I laughed. I gasped in shock. I facepalmed once or twice. As I said, it was fun.
Would I recommend Finlay Donovan to readers looking for a more light-hearted mystery series? Absolutely. It's got suspense, romance and a great sense of humour. What more could you ask for?
I love the Finlay Donovan series -it’s so ridiculous, over the top, & fun! Finlay is back & while I thought the second book was a little tooo ridiculous, this one toned it back the perfect amount. After the events of the second book, Finlay finds herself with an impossible task. With the Russian mob watching her every move, Donovan is attempting to hunt down a contract killer. But the task is almost impossible especially since she suspects it might just be a cop.
I loved the setting of this installment. A citizen’s police academy, where Finlay and Vero learn how to use guns and get into all sorts of mischief is my idea of a fun read. I love that we got a bit more romance this go around as well, and finally we get movement on the one relationship I know we’ve all been waiting for!
This was the first book that made me really question who Vero is and while I like her, she seemed way shadier this go around. I’m anxious to see what the next book will entail as this story set us up nicely to dive more into Vero’s story next.
These books are so outlandish and just plain fun. If you like stories about women who can’t stay out of trouble or you need a good laugh, you have to pick this one up!
This was a fun continuation of a series I’m totally obsessed with. Love the characters, love the premise. This book felt a little filler to me, but I’m still going to carry on reading because I’m obsessed with Finlay and Vero and their escapades!
I absolutely loved this next installment of Finlay Donovan. These books never fail to have me laughing out loud and trying to figure out what's going on.
It's full of twists and turns and although some were obvious, there were still plenty I didn't see coming.
The characters in this series are such fun, as well as being complex and well written. Even the minor side characters have believable back stories and reactions.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publishers for a free eARC of this book.
This was the first book I read in this series and was expecting a sort of cozy mystery. I was wrong, it's a crazy story that made me laugh and kept me turning pages.
There's a lot of humour, a story which is not exactly solid but works, and a cast of great characters.
I will go back and read the rest of the series.
Recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher for this arc, all opinions are mine
Finlay Donovan is back! And how!
The Story:
Feliks has a job for Finlay. She has to find EasyClean before Feliks goes to trial. But EasyClean might be an officer himself.
When Nick starts a citizen police academy training course, Finlay and her faithful accountant/babysitter, Vero, get themselves invited there.
But what will they find there? EasyClean? Or will they be killed before they make a move?
What I Liked:
1. Just like the last two books, this installment of Finlay is absolutely crazy. No point in looking for loopholes in such a book because everything runs on faith and lots of luck. This, too, was a madcap adventure with loads of characters.
2. Laugh-out-loud moments. Plenty of them throughout.
3. Vero - that woman deserves a standing ovation, a trophy, AND 50 million dollars!
4. Nick. Sigh!
5. A story. Yes! There is a valid story in this one!
What I Disliked:
Nothing because I blindly love Finlay. And Vero (much more than Finlay).
Final Thoughts:
If you are looking for a hilarious adventure, this is the book for you. I'd recommend reading the first two books to get the background for this one to know the dynamics of the characters' interactions.
4.5 stars!
Thanks to Netgalley and Headline for the ARC.
The third installment in the Finlay Donovan series finds Finlay and Vero at a police academy school, hiding out from the numerous people trying to kill them. There's more smoldering with Nick, exasperating conversations with the ex husband, and children running wild. Pretty typical week for Finlay.
This series is always so much fun. It's like a cosy mystery but with that added extra tension and character development that really helps propel the overall story arc forward. By this third book Finlay and Vero are knee deep in trouble, and they've also grown to trust each other implicitly. They're essentially raising Finlay's children together, and are willing to help each other dispose of a dead body. If that's not true friendship, I don't know what is. Their interactions are always a highlight.
At times I do find Finlay's ability to get any and every man in a nearby vacinity to fall in love with her slightly irritating. At this point she has the hot cop, the ex husband and the young lawyer all chasing her heels - and while the lawyer romance has definitely cooled, there's still an undeniable spark. I also don't see the logic in persuing Nick. There's just too many secrets and lies by this point for it to ever really work. However, I cannot wait for the truth to come out. I also liked the development of Vero's character here, as we get a bit more of her oast and her relationship with Javier.
Speaking of secrets, I also really liked the unravelling of the plot in this as Vero and Finlay race to uncover who EasyClean is. I admit I had no idea who it could be, and I raced through the story to find the answers. The ending is satisfying, and still leaves enough questions unanswered for the next installment. Just what is Steven up to? And where is Javier? I can't wait to find out.
I love this series & this one did not disappoint! I love the suspense, romance, everything. As I mentioned in the reviews for the 2 previous ones, this is not my usual thing but I’m addicted to this series & love Finlay & Vero, it’s nice to see two women kick ass. Defense recommend!
Thank you so much Headline Books and Netgalley for the gifted digital ARC in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
Read this if you:
Would like to be a police officer for a week
Have a bff that’s your ride-or-die
Want a book that hilarious and suspenseful at the same time
My Thoughts:
This was a very enjoyable read. Finlay and Vero got themselves in a few pretty dangerous and hilarious situations once again. I love this series because, despite the suspenseful part, the author manages to keep a big smile on my face during the entire ride. Elle Cosimano is definitely awesome at writing humorous fiction!
I loved the setting of this book. Finlay and Vero end up playing police officers for a few days. Everyone in the police thinks that Finlay is doing research for her book, but of course that the ladies have a different agenda. They start unraveling things, getting themselves in danger, bringing suspicion upon themselves only to switch the police’s attention towards the real criminal in the end. It’s just hilarious and nail biting!
Comparing this book to the previous two, though, it seemed not to have as many twists and turns, hence the missing star. But it was still a very enjoyable read and I’m curious what the author has in store for us with Finlay book 4th coming out in 2024.
Finlay and Vero are back at it again!
I love the FD series! I was so excited to read this one and it didn’t disappoint! Are they believable.. absolutely not but they’re so entertaining and fun. We all know 99% of the stuff that happens in all 3 books would never happen in real life but I love them anyway.
I think ‘Jumps the Gun’ is my favourite of the series so far. I loved that the majority of the book was set at the police training academy and that we got to see more of Nick, Georgia and meet some new cops we hadn’t met before. I do wish there was a little more romance in this thought but I was happy to see her FINALLY make a choice at least! I’m really looking forward to seeing what shenanigans Finlay and Vero get up to next.
I actually hadn’t realised this series was going to be more than a trilogy, I’m glad we’re going to get another book and I’m already looking forward to it but I hope the author doesn’t go on to drag the series out too much and completely ruin it!
Thanks so much to NetGalley and the publisher for providing an eARC in exchange for an honest review.
This book was the most outlandish and had the most cringe worthy lines than the others in the series. I also often found myself wishing I was reading from Vero’s perspective. Overall I did have a lot of fun with for all that it was.
