Family drama and secrets galore all develop in this Catherine Alliot story. Perfect book for her fans. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for letting me review this book.
A great read from a wonderful author. The Pink House, a home that Emma will occupy with her husband Huge now that his parents have divorced and are leaving it. Sally , the sister in law will remain in a flat off the main house. How will it all work out. Catherine has an amazing gift for developing each character, especially the main character Emma. Recommend reading this one if you want to curl up with a book and lose yourself for a few hours.
I have long since been a fan of Catherine Alliot and in recent years she has continued to deliver good domestic drama.
This tale of middle aged married life and the promise of what might have been has everything you might expect- a beautiful house in the country, a distant but loyal husband, intrigue and some friends/ family who may not be all they seem. Throw in a crush from the past and a dark secret and you have a pacy read towards a satisfying end.
Thank you to Netgalley snd the publisher for the arc in exchange for my honest review.
Catherine Alliott does it again, another engrossing read. Emma and Hugh move to his parent's house in the country, she loves it, he sinks further into his music and books. Secrets pour out and their son's wedding brings everything to a head. Wonderful, and a happy ending too!
This was a very engaging, insightful yet entertaining read for me. I happened to thoroughly enjoyed it!
I always enjoy Catherine Alliott and this was no exception. Gentle family drama with engaging characters and a well developed story. Would recommend.

Superior family saga/drama. A gentle read but one that gets more and more involving as you move through it. Family secrets and the complexities of family dynamics never fail to fascinate. Built to an unexpected but satisfying conclusion.
Really enjoyed this. Highly recommended.
Thanks to the author, publisher and netgalley for this advance digital copy in exchange for my honest and unbiased opinion.
"The Pink House" of the title is the family home of the Petridis family in Wiltshire. Emma and husband Hugh are the new owners at the start of the story. There are quite a lot of characters in the book with different relationships which have changed over time. Of course there are also family secrets which gradually come to light. This is quite a complex story and Emma is a complex character who has a habit of hiding her true feelings.
This is a great family drama. Thanks to Net Galley and the publishers for the opportunity to review this book.
Gosh a story and a half. Three uni friends and the twists. Lots of lies. Did not like Sally even even you knew why she had done stuff..The wedding was lovely. You felt for the main character Emma at times. She was an ace mother. I did not warm to Hugh. Can’t spoil it for you. A good read. Got better and better.. Ending perfect.
A great four-star read that will keep you sane. I simply adore the way this author brings family dynamics to the story and makes us all realise just how complicated they can be, and we are all in the same boat. The characters are all people you will understand and will be wanting them to go on and do well and get over their past and create a positive future. Once again a great read from this great author.
An entertaining light read from Catherine Alliott. I enjoyed the book despite blowing somewhat hot and cold with the main character Emma who was at times exasperating and shallow, other characters were a well balanced mix of good, bad and quirky. There were enough twists and turns as family secrets unfold mainly within the idyllic Wiltshire countryside plus there is the odd foray into London, Scotland and Kent. The book explores love on several levels plus loss and jealousy. There is a good mix of the past and the present plus some lovely humorous passages making this an enjoyable read.
Great book full of family dynamics, wonderfully written by Catherine Alliott. I do enjoy Catherine's books she brings characters of all ages into the forefront. Thank you netgalley for the advanced copy
Firstly, I really enjoy all of Catherine’s books. And this one is no different. Emma and High have just moved; to the idyllic Pink House. It’s the house Highs parents used to live in until they got divorced - Clem had an affair and left .Yiannis heartbroken. Sister in law Sally is going to live in the annex in the garden. Emma loves her new life, she’s making new friends and she’s starting to run the art business that Clem left behind with a different direction. But some things are niggling her…Hugh doesn’t seem that happy; Sally seems to resent her being there; and her nee friend Susie has artist brother that brings back a lot of old memories. I loved this book. The characters are clear and we’ll defined, and the story tugs at the heartstrings whilst last being witty and funny.
I went between being annoyed and caring about the main character and wasn’t sure where I ended up.
I read the book as wanted to see what happened but wasn’t sure i cared enough.
Thanks Netgalley and the Publisher. One of my favourite authors and this did not disappoint. A really nice story with some wonderful characters., I would highly recommend.
I love Catherine Alliott books and this is no exception. When Emma and Hugh decide to buy Hugh's parents house things start to go wrong. Emma starts to doubt if it was the right thing to do
What an utterly unputdownable gem of a book! A mesmerising and charming composition of escapism, humour, scandal and unexpected romance in middle-age, set in the glorious ambience of rural manors and scenery. Lots of quirky, mostly very likeable characters complete this brilliant tale. Absolutely bewitching, read it in one go and didn‘t want it to end.
Catherine Alliott is an author who manages to create intertwine family dynamics in her novels and her latest is as engaging as ever. Less about the family home than relationships, trust and secrets, this will appeal to fans of Alliott's other books and readers of Katie Fforde and Philippa Ashley.
Nobody does posh ‘chick-lit’ like Catherine Alliott and her characters in The Pink House are almost painfully posh (and they live in a seemingly perfect world detached from most readers) but, even so, no family is perfect and their problems are universal and timeless so we can all relate to them at the end of the day. This is the joy of a new novel from Ms Alliott - a perfect mix of escapism, romance, scandal and humour.
Like with all Ms Alliott’s novels I was swept along with the narrative and came away well satisfied by the experience.
Many thanks to all concerned for allowing me to read an advance copy of this terrific novel.
Thank you so much for sending me a proof copy of Catherine Alliott’s latest book, The Pink House, which I have now finished reading. I thoroughly enjoyed it - it’s always such fun to dive into Catherine’s world of intricately connected characters and families living glamorous lives in fabulous locations, with myriad secrets and unspoken emotions bubbling like lava beneath the surface. The settings are beautiful and vividly described, and there are plenty of surprises along the way. Another winner from Catherine!
