I very much enjoyed this mystery thriller set in an alternative world where T7 offers rejuvenation and long life but only to those rich and powerful enough to afford it. Cal Sounder is a likeable protagonist, as a police consultant his methods are flexible and his contacts delightfully shady. His personal links to the family Tonfamecasca (I cannot get a satisfying ring to this name), gradually revealed as the story progresses, makes him the ideal person to liaise with the Titans when one of their employees is murdered. The atmosphere is very noirish, in setting and dialogue, violence when it occurs is brutal and occasionally the f word is overused. The story is fast paced and addictive, well plotted with some unusual yet convincing and frequently larger than life characters. The dry humour even in the direst situation brightens the mood. While typical of the noir genre, there are twists and turns that never stretch belief and the climax is both hard hitting and satisfying even if the final few lines form a rather abrupt conclusion.
A terrific read that is well written, stylish and intelligent.
