Another beautiful story with enough mystery and adventure to keep you turning the pages. A young girl finds herself mysteriously in the Australian outback with no memories and no idea how to survive. She is fortunate to stumble across Tarni, a native to the land, who is also on her own, trying to follow and find her sister. Together with the injured bird Candelabra, the girls embark on a journey of self-discovery through the outback. It’s a story about belonging, about identity and survival, and the ending is utterly brilliant.
Zillah Bethell has such a talent for telling stories that have you absolutely hooked from the first page. Waking up in the australian desert not knowing her name, how she has got there and why, the main character meets Tarni. Together they set out on a journey of friendship and self discovery with the background of First country Australians and traditions. A truly wonderful story and one that I will definitely return to read again
i really enjoyed The Shark Caller and had high hopes for this book. On the whole they were met. The location, in the Australian outback, is not quite so exotic, but it was good to find out more about the First Nation culture.
it gets off to a good start, with a girl stumbling through the outback holding a locked box. She can’t remember anything, including her name. It sets up an intriguing mystery that only gets more puzzling as events unfold. The ending didn’t quite live up to the rest of the story. Anyone who has read Shark Caller will not be entirely surprised by some revelations near the conclusion.
An intriguing story set in the Australian outback. When a young girl finds herself in the outback with no idea of who she is and why she only has 1 shoe, everything looks bleak.
She then meets Tarni and together they make their way across the outback forging a special friendship.
This book left me guessing all the way through.
An enjoyable read.
