Thank you to NetGalley and the Author/Publisher for the opportunity to read an ARC of this book.

The Paris Soulmate is a sweet rom-com by Brooke Gilbert, that shows us what it’s like to fall head-over-heels-over-logic in love in Paris (because what better city to fall in love in, than Paris). If you’re looking for a clean, magical rom-com, this one is for you (please read the trigger warnings in the book).

The story follows Christine and Colin (dual POV) as they embark on a trip to Paris. Christine is there to prove something to herself- though slowly but surely, we find that her intentions are not as apparent as we thought. Colin is there on a mysterious work trip. They meet in the airport before boarding their flight (while Christine is having an episode brought on by her auto-immune disorder), and share an instant connection. After some flirtation and a little help from some eager flight passengers and staff, they find themselves ready to explore Paris and their hearts.

I loved the depth of characters in this story, and the fact that we had many side characters who added so much to the storyline, but I was most drawn to Christine and her thoughts and feelings. The way she dealt with having an auto-immune disorder was a real representation of how it filters into various aspects of your life, consciously and subconsciously. The way she approached love and emotions felt like a true representation of a woman who is cautious because of her past. There was a depth to her thinking that drew me in and had me feeling for her and with her. While I found Colin absolutely charming, I found that his secret gave me a bit of an ick, though I would say that this is a case of personal icks, and I doubt it would land the same with anyone else.

The way Gilbert allowed us to visualise Paris, it truly felt like I was there. No need to Google for visual purposes. It felt so incredible and magical, seeing the city through the eyes of starry-eyed lovers. There were moments where I felt that the magic was slightly interrupted by thoughts being extensively rehashed, but in all, I felt that it didn’t take away from the magic of the storyline.

I really enjoyed the plot and the characters, but there was just something that didn't hook me. Maybe the plot was not executed well as the story kept progressing? Or maybe my expectations were too high? Either way for readers that are engrossed in romantic couples regardless of the plot, THIS novel will be THE ONE for you...read on!

A beautiful love story that will make you laugh and cry. The characters are loveable and adoringly cute. I loved travelling to Paris the city of love without even having to leave my house.

This was a quick and easy read! Christina has learned she has several uncommon autoimmune conditions and has embarked on the trip of a lifetime to go to Paris.

She's joined by a British stranger names Colin who soon becomes a friend. As they spend more time together the feelings between them deepen.

I'm so happy that Christina has someone like Colin to help her in life as she has lots to face with these conditions.

I absolutely loved this book! I was drawn into it mostly due to the Paris topic. But this was so much more! It had great disability and mental health representation, the background of Paris was used perfectly (which I so often miss with books set in Paris) and the story was just really beautiful and heartwarming. The only thing I wish didn't happen was the insta-love, which is just one of my least favourite tropes. But overall it was a great read!

Rating: 4 stars ⭐️
Tropes: instant connection 👫
enemies to lovers 💋
fake marriage 💍
one bed 🛏
closed door romance🚪

This story has chronic illness representation.

CW: Medical episodes, harassment

A romantic novel that gave a voice to those that struggle with illness and insecurity, while truly fulfilling the “when you know, you know” aspect of a romance.

What I liked the most: The author's overall writing, heartfelt message, disability representation, and Collin, always Collin.

This is the first book I have read by Brooke Gilbert and I absolutely loved reading The Paris Soulmate. It had the perfect mix of romance with a happily ever after.

I must be the only one that did not love this one. I found it hard to read in third person. Maybe I am just on Rom Com overload so I would not distract others from giving it a try. I would definately not rule out reading other books by Brooke Gilbert. I may have to pick this one up again in the future.

This was a fun and cute story by a new-to-me author. The story was sweet and really captured my attention from the start and kept my interest all the way through. With a wonderful, endearing cast of characters, the story really gave me all the feels and the author did a nice job of bringing everything to life. Christine's struggle with her autoimmune diseases made her a realistic and relatable character, and I could really feel the struggles she was facing. The descriptions of Paris and all the places really made me feel as I was right there with her seeing everything for myself.
I really enjoyed the story and look forward to reading more books by this author.

Brooke Gilbert pours her heart and soul into her debut book, The Paris Soulmate. Christine, the female main character (like Gilbert), suffers from several autoimmune diseases. Her diagnoses mean she must follow a strict diet, eliminate all known triggers, and limit her physical activities in hopes of staying functional. Convinced falling in love with her would be too much for someone else, Christine, makes peace with being alone. That is until she takes a solo trip to Paris and meets, Colin.

As someone with family members who suffer from autoimmune diseases, I understand the gravity of a character like Christine. Christine, not only represents a population that is often overlooked, she provides and opportunity to education the public. Someone may present physically healthy, but be suffering immensely.

Special thanks to BooksGoSocial and Netgalley for allowing me to read this book in exchange for my honest review.

*As a Christian who enjoys reading romances, it can be difficult to find sweet, clean stories. This was a nice surprise as it was not marketed as such.

“You really need to start seeing yourself as other people see you. I promise, it’s a pretty great view."

⭐⭐⭐⭐

The Paris Soulmate is a very sweet book that deals with two tropes I am usually skeptical about: the instant love trope and the MMC being payed to be around the MFC trope. I usually have a hard time getting over the deceit and the lies that are the main ingredients of this kind of stories. And I usually need to feel the characters feelings grow slowily and steadily in time. So, at first, I was afraid I could not fully like this story. But you know what? I actually liked it a lot! With the use of an absolutely intriguing writing style and very well written dialogues, the author got me hooked from page one! She stroke all the right cords and simply brought out my hopeless romantic personality. I mean, the love story between Colin and Christine is just sooooo sweeeeet! Their banter is on fire, and their romantic connection is just as strong. Christine is so fragile and yet so strong and independent. Colin is cocky and yet so protective. They both want the same thing: someone to challenge them, someone to see them for them... all of them. So, they are just so perfect for each other! I dare you to read this book and not fall in love with the idea of falling in love (and with Colin, honestly). Because of/ thanks to this book, it will surely take me some time before I go back to being completely cynical.

Thank you NetGalley for providing me with an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.

I’m disappointed. I thought this was going to be a cute, fun read. I don’t know why, but it just fell flat for me. I think it pales in comparison to other books of this genre that I’ve read. If you need a book to read because you simply have no other books, then this one is for you. Otherwise, I’d pass. I couldn’t bring myself to finish the whole book, I mostly skimmed the last of it and counted that as finishing it.

This book broke my heart and put it back together. Colin and Christine are just the sweetest couple! The love they have for each other is just so raw.

Definitely one of my fav books of 2023!

I really enjoyed these two characters and their blossoming romance. My only downfall is that I wish there had been some more detail on who they were as individuals as well as who they are together. But this was a truly romantic read. Giving it four stars!

This was such a sweet romance and an enjoyable read! It’s a great debut novel and I’ll definitely be looking for the next books from this author. While the story takes place more or less over a week, the insta-love romance felt natural and believable. It was full of romance, secrets and a deep understanding of chronic diseases/disorders portrayed in a respectful way. This book really captured my heart since the first pages and the descriptions of Paris made me feel like I was right there with the main characters. It’s a fun, sweet, story that I recommend to anyone who is a big romance fan.

I really enjoyed reading this book. The character’s development throughout the story was stunning.

Christine and Colin’s story is a true story of very real love. From the auto-immune disorders and the thoughtfulness and love that these characters exhibited towards one another was hands down the best love story.

This book was filled with hopes, dreams, mental health discussions and awareness, autoimmune disorders representation and just a beautiful romance in Paris.
