What an interesting collection of stories. It's a mix of everything. Great entertainment when you have time to kill.
I doubted all were true.
Untypical is a good word to describe this book. The tales are quite short and to the point. Definitely a conversation starter type of book.
Not my typical read, but I thought this was very interesting.
Thank you NetGalley for my complimentary copy in return for my honest review.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
The little tales of trivia in this book were truly unique and lots of fun. .I actually had to Google some because no way that was true, turns out I was wrong.
I thought I know lots of factoids and trivia, apparently I have a lot more to learn.
I only noticed now, but it seems that every time i requested a book of facts in NetGalley it is written by Owen Janssen, and you know what, every time is worth the while, I really enjoy these, some people may complain that they’re too short or they’re lacking, but I don’t really agree with that opinion, is like a bit size desert, it tastes great, I have great fun, and I always go for another one hahah.
In this book of facts we have a nice mish mash of stories, some I already knew, but most are new, and to say that I have under my belt around 4 books of this author, that says a lot hahah. This is a funny book to have in the coffee table, I am out of the dating poll for a while now, but one could also say that this book has lots of good stories for an ice break for those nights in the pub.
Thank you NetGalley and BooksGoSocial for the free ARC and this is my honest opinion.
If you are the kind that like facts, fun facts or just having random knowledge like me, this book is for you !
It is such a good discovery and also learned quite a lot about different topics in general. The facts are shorts and easy to read. You can go anywhere in the book to read random pages, or binge them, or just reading a few. That is great and a nice read. I would definitely recommend as a gift for curious people when you don’t necessary know what type of book they might like.
Thank you NetGalley for this arc in exchange of my honest review.
My thanks to NetGalley and Booksgosocial for a copy of “ Untypical Tales” “ for an honest review.
I found this to be a really interesting , informative and entertaining book , that I found myself laughing out loud at .Its an ideal book to keep dipping in and out of .I have just finished another book by Owen Janssen “ Epic True Tales And Crazy Stories “ and it’s as good as this one.!
I loved the bite sized length of these fascinating facts. They are long enough to provide enough information to satisfy curiosity but short enough to dip in and out of and to quickly skip through if one doesn’t take your fancy.
The ratio of facts that I didn’t already know was also good with only a few that I could honestly say I knew already.
The breadth of subject matter and global spread was also good as was the dose of humour making this great light entertainment.
There were (slightly) too many that would only mean anything to an American audience or perhaps a touch of extra background information on these ones would remedy this so the uninitiated don’t feel they’re missing out.
Overall a definite recommend for me, I look forward to reading further books along the same lines, your ability to simultaneously amuse and educate is fantastic.
This book is full of fun and unusual factoids. I think it is a stretch to say short stories as every factoid is one paragraph in length. It covers everything from modern day to ancient history. Topics include leaders, science, animals entertainment and much much more. It is fun and easy to read through. I was aware of most of the items but did learn a few new things. The downside there is no organization or order to the information. And there is no index to help you find topics or individual items. I thought it could be fun for teens but without pictures or drawings I don’t think it will keep their attention. Thank you to NetGalley and BooksGoSocial for the ARC in exchange for a review.
The title grabbed me. A really good surprise if a bit disjointed. But I think that’s the point. You can drop anywhere in this book and find something fascinating, unknown, and quirky. Perfect entry for the small studio bookshelf filled with instant knowledge and topics.
A fun, interesting and different kind of read. I got through this book pretty quickly but really enjoyed it and found out lots of interesting facts, which may come in handy for the pub quiz one day!
This book has been loved by every one I have shared it with. It is one of the best I have read in random but interesting information that maybe totally useless but is very, very entertaining.
I received an eARC of this book.
Many kids like trivia and factoids. This is the book for them. I’m not sure there was anything in Untypical Tales that I haven’t read before, but I’m sure it would be quite appealing to my middle school kids. This is a fitting addition to school libraries, etc.
This book was so much fun. It was well plotted, researched and laid out. Trivia lovers will enjoy it immensely. A great read on a rainy day.
Thank you NetGalley for providing this copy. The opinion here is solely my own.
As someone who loves learning weird and unusual facts this book was great. It can be used as the perfect conversational starter. I really hope the author keeps writing them. Thank you netgalley for this ARC.
This isn’t really stories, as I was expecting from the blurb, but more a fact with a short paragraph below it explaining the fact. It was interesting enough, though some of the facts have been disproven by scientists/historians as being myths so feel the author should have done more fact checking on his facts. Otherwise it’s a decent enough book to leave on your coffee table
