If you haven't read any of the other 2 in this series, I definitely recommend you do!
The first one is a favourite with our reading miniClub & they were excited to know there are 2 more. This has been such a great on in the series.
There's so much to say but mostly we'd have to shout about the characters - so genuine & interesting - each having their special quirks.
The setting - it is clear that Tamsin Mori is completely in love & familiar with Shetland & everything special there. That makes a huge difference to the feeling of any book. Add in some extra magic & boom, it's superb!
We also spent time researching the history, animals & life in Shetland. The club members were very interested.
Nimbus was our favourite character & we have also sparked some weather projects, so that's an added bonus.
We'd recommend all Tamsin Mori's books to everyone.
A thoroughly entertaining and exciting climax to a very engaging trilogy. The journey of the characters through adversity and danger towards self-knowledge and confidence in their own decisions drives the story, and allows readers to recognise along with the protagonists that the adults they love and trust, whilst having their best interests at heart, may not see things the same way as they do.
I read this without knowing that this one is a series. I got a bit confused because all the characters seems related with the previous books and i just guessed here and there what happened to them.
But nevertheless, i quite enjoyed their adventures. I can’t really say much about Stella and her friends since i did not follow their adventure from the beginning, but it has intrigued me to start the series!
What a great story! This leads on from Gathering Storm, and it might be confusing if you haven’t read the previous stories. There is more wonderful weather magic for Stella to learn, but she is also making her own decisions – rightly or wrongly.
This story mixes in some norse folklore to name things like the Kraken, and involves Stella’s parents in their oceanographic research, leading to a dangerous situation for all. It’s fast-moving, but takes time to smell the flowers on the way. I loved this story, and while it completes the plot laid down in the first book, I hope there will be more to come in this world, perhaps featuring the other weather weavers and cloud keepers.
This was Absolutely Enchanting & Highly Recommended for Fans of Harry Potter.
(Thanks to net galley for this book.)
I loved the previous two books in this series, so I was eager to get my hands on Winter’s Keep. It certainly didn’t disappoint!
It was great to return to this much loved world, and cast of characters. The world building is excellent, and in each book we see a slightly wider view. I absolutely love the idea of weather weavers, and I so enjoyed seeing Stella starting to actually weave magical items.
These books have a great cast of characters, and we meet new ones with each book. I love Stella, she always tries to do what’s right, and she’s brave enough to own up to her mistakes. I enjoyed learning more about Heather (I can’t say any more without spoilers!). Sid was an excellent addition to the cast, and produced some funny moments.
The plot is great, with lots of adventure, working together with friends, and saving the day.
Overall, this was another brilliant and magical adventure in a favourite series. I cannot recommend it enough! Start with the first book and devour the whole series.
I was given a copy of this book, my opinions are my own.
I didn't realise at first that this was actually the 3rd in a series, and i'm always worried that i wont be able to give a fair review if i'm starting with a book that's several into a series, because obviously i dont know the background or characters. But I decided to give it a go anyway.
Boy am I glad I did! What a fantastic book! I was less than halfway through before i ordered the first 2 books in the series, so i can find out what happened before this one.
It helped that there was enough of a callback to previous books that i wasn't totally lost, enough was explained that i could understand the magic of the world and what had happened before, without having so much explaination that i was thinking 'get on with it'.
I loved the characters, especially Nimbus and Sid, but i have to say, i had a bit of a soft spot for sea witch, Heather.
This is a great world that has been created, with some amazing ideas mixed in. so i cant wait to go back and read more.
Highly recommended, this was a fantastic book. addictive and incredibly hard to put down!
I kept this book especially for school half term, it is amazing how well behaved the grandchildren can be when they know that I have the last of the Weather Weaver trilogy books. We read from it each day and I got to the end of half term with my sanity intact. This book is just as good as the first two, if not better ,well done (and thank you) Ms Mori. Another wonderful book.
With thanks to netgalley and the publisher and the author Tamsin Mori
Winter’s keep is the third weather weaver’s book by Tamsin moir
It is a brilliant book that doesn’t hold back and features sea monster’s, puffins, and a house spider that can spin gloves. Of course not forgetting the mischievous Nimbus.
I really enjoyed this book and can’t wait for the next weather weaver book.
I really enjoyed this imaginative fantasy story, even though this is book 3 of a trilogy and I haven’t read the other books. It was very easy to get into the world, despite knowing nothing about cloud magic or weather weaving, but I think you’d be better off starting with book 1.
Stella is staying with her grandfather on the Shetland Islands and is being taught weather-weaving by her mentor Tamar. Yes, Stella is an apprentice weather-weaver, bonded with a storm cloud called Nimbus, who collects magic for Stella to transform into things like sea-shawls, invisibility cloaks, never-ending purses and flying carpets. However trouble is afoot. Storm-clouds captured in an earlier book by Velda, leader of the ice-weavers, have still not been freed. Stella is contacted by Heather, former apprentice of Tamar and now turned sea-witch who is feared and hated by everyone. Even Stella doesn’t know if Heather can be trusted. When rumours of a much greater threat arrive, Stella, Tamar and Stella’s grandfather head to the mysterious island of Winter’s Keep to talk to the council, free the storm-clouds and avert catastrophe. But will anyone listen?
What I liked about the book:
Nimbus: Nimbus is such a sweet little cloud. He often settles around Stella’s shoulders (like a shawl, I guess), or envelopes her in a cloud hug. Little bolts of lightning and rumbling thunder when he is out of sorts can cause problems of course, and Stella isn’t always aware of the cause.
Spinning & Weaving: I loved reading about the spinning of magic yarn (magic extracted from Nimbus) and then the weaving a shawl from the yarn. To be honest, it didn’t have to be a magic substance going through the loom for me to enjoy the description.
The different weavers: I loved the imaginative detail with the different kinds of weavers (I suspect there is more detail in book 1, another good reason to start with it). There are storm weavers, ice weavers, verdure weavers, lightning weavers and probably more.
The storyline is strong with an epic finale. I loved the themes of forgiveness and redemption, and the bond between the clouds and their weavers. Stella was a worthy heroine, and I really liked that her parents, although non-magical and apparently nervous about the whole thing, were aware of magic and allowed her train as a storm weaver.
For fantasy readers, this is an imaginative and exciting story with good characters, and I recommend you check out the series. You will probably want your own storm cloud after reading it, I know I do!
I adored the first books in this series, currently finding it harder to get into this one. Not sure if it’s me or the book. I’ll change this review if I read more and change my opinion.
Stella meets her biggest challenge yet, in this thrilling conclusion to the Weather Weaver’s trilogy. Tamar introduces Stella to Sid, her house spider who spins special gloves for her. Stella also gets to weave a protective shawl using Nimbus. We meet Heather the sea witch again, and find out how the Weather Weavers plan to free their clouds. Stella meets up with other Weather Weavers again, and Tamar takes her idea to the council. Can they defeat the Teran?
This was a thrilling read, and I raced through, wanting to find out if Stella succeeded in her quest to reunite clouds with their owners. Tamsin Mori has created some brilliant scenes and characters and I really enjoyed being in Stella and Nimbus’s lives again.
The Teran, spirit of winter is coming with its army of sea creatures to take an army of storm clouds. Stella must team up with a sea witch, the Haken, to stop the Teran. Can the Haken be trusted? And can they free the storm clouds in time? This book keeps you in its grasp the entire time. The only thing I didn't like about the book is that it ended😔😊.
Winter's Keep is the third book in a series written by Tamsin Mori. I have done reviews on the the other two books in the past and this one is as good as those, if not better.
