I really got into this book and couldn’t stop listening. What an absolute page turner.
The action all takes place in a remote Scottish hotel in a snowy closed season with a single member of staff and two remaining visitors…. Oh, and a nearby prison for dangerous offenders. You get the idea. Maybe a cliched beginning, but it doesn’t entirely run to the conventional script. Really good book!

What an irritating book this was, and I mean that in the nicest possible way.
The first part had me second, and third guessing my decision on who was Gaines.
I didnt pick up on any clues as to who was lying.

The second part of the book, felt like a different story, yet with characters you already knew.
Tense, and nerve shredding, and all blanketed in icy snow... it was fast paced and exciting.
A thoroughly enjoyable ride, right to the last page.

This book was okay, pretty average, even forgettable. There were some great descriptions and the scenes were both vivid and realistic. However I felt the characters were all a bit bland, with no real depth or development over the course of the book. I really struggled to overlook some hugely unlikely scenarios - one member of staff on duty, alone, in a hotel of that size - that just wouldn't happen. I don't want to put any spoilers in this review, but there were several developments and events that were quite frankly impossible to believe, even scientifically impossible in places. I guess it's just me, but fiction or not, a story has got to have a realistic plot line. My sincere thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the advance copy in exchange for an honest unbiased review.
