The killer in me... I guess there is a killer hiding in everybody. The thing is how do you deal with it? I guess everyone has had murderous thoughts, but as long as you kill someone in your head, there is nothing wrong. It's when your brain really sends the sighs to act on those thought, we speak about a totally different kettle of fish.
When someone tells you you have the brain of a psychopath and you are struggling with what someone did to you, why should you not give it a go and act exactly the way you are?
Out with the loving and caring person. In with the murderous and vengeful person.
This book is dark, unsettling, and impossible to put down. After all, are you responsible for your actions when nature has made you the way you are??? Hasn't his become normal behavior then? Or does it not matter how your brain is shaped as long as nurture blocks nature from taking over?
Great book and I utterly enjoyed it, but it unnerved me at the same time. 5 stars
Thank you

"The Killer In Me" by Max Manning is a gripping psychological thriller that delves into the depths of human nature and the blurred lines between good and evil. Released on December 6, 2022, this novel offers a fresh take on the genre with its unique premise and unpredictable plot twists.
The story follows Liv Miller, a woman still grieving the loss of her sister in a hit-and-run accident. As she participates in a brain scan study for an article she's writing, Liv discovers that her brain exhibits characteristics typical of psychopaths. This revelation sets her on a dark path of self-discovery and potential revenge against the man responsible for her sister's death.
Manning's writing style is crisp and engaging, with short chapters that keep the pace brisk and the tension high. The author's background in journalism shines through in the meticulous research evident in the psychological aspects of the story.
One of the novel's strengths lies in its exploration of the nature versus nurture debate. Manning skillfully weaves this theme throughout the narrative, challenging readers to consider the implications of genetic predisposition versus personal choice.
The character development is particularly noteworthy, with Liv serving as a complex and unreliable narrator. Her internal struggle between embracing her newfound "identity" and fighting against it adds depth to the story and keeps readers guessing about her true nature and motivations.
While some readers found certain plot elements predictable, many praised the book for its unexpected twists, particularly the shocking ending that left them eager for more. The dual perspective narration, alternating between first and third person, adds an extra layer of intrigue to the storytelling.
"The Killer In Me" is not without its flaws, with some readers noting pacing issues and occasional inconsistencies. However, these minor drawbacks do not significantly detract from the overall reading experience.
In conclusion, Max Manning's "The Killer In Me" is a thought-provoking and suspenseful read that will appeal to fans of psychological thrillers. Its exploration of psychopathy, revenge, and self-discovery makes it a standout in the genre, leaving readers contemplating the nature of evil long after they've turned the final page

This is a cleverly written psychological thriller. The pace is good. The characters are gripping and well developed. It is filled with so many twists and turns.

Sorry I didn't finish this book so did not give feedback.
I just couldn't get into it so to be fair I'm giving it 2 stars

Wow, just wow! This book had me all over the place. I hated it, I loved it, I’d have thrown it away aceros the room but my kindle would have suffer!
And that ending! I mean Ahhhhhh!

A twisted thriller that was just too twisted for my liking but it does have a few good points. The plot and settings are great but the characters just didn't do it for me.

I think Max Manning is such an underrated author, these thrillers are not one to be missed! This is a completely original storyline which kept me hooked from the very first page. The suspense was incredible and makes you ask yourself what you would do if you found out the information about yourself and you were a high level psychopath! Already can’t wait for the next one!

Thank you for this advanced copy which was a great read, I had trouble putting this down! I liked the way it was written and it made for an easy read. I would definitely recommend and look forward to reading another book by this author! A stunner!

It was a did not finish for me. Couldn’t get into the action within the first couple of chapters. Felt too drawn out and not exciting enough

I honestly didn’t like this book like I thought I would. I couldn’t stay interested in the book. It was making me fall asleep. I wasn’t able to finish this one

The story is about Liv who lost her sister in a hit-and-run. However the driver confessed and sentenced to jail. She felt that justice was not properly given over the death of her sister.
Few months later she volunteer to take part in a study of a brain of a psychopath for her feature article as a freelance writer. But she did not expect that this test will result to a discovery that her brain have a similar feature to a psychopath. This is when everything change.
Learning that the driver who killed her sister is about to get free. She started to embrace her newfound self and plot her revenge for her sister’s death.
The plot is good and had a crazy twist. I was fully engage with the Liv’s character and I felt frustrated on her actions. She became obsessed both with her sister and her killer’s sister. But I think that is what grieves can do to some. A lot of things happened in this book. It is well written and I agree with how some readers describe this as unputdownable. The ending is satisfying.

I started to read this and did so a few chapters, but I didn’t believe the concept of the brain scan predicting psychopathic tendencies so I couldn’t go on.

This was a brilliant psychological thriller, that was so intense I was gripped especially as it was fast paced and had a great story line. All the characters were excellent and this book had me guessing right till the end especially with all the twists and turns I could not keep up! This was my first read of his but I hope to have many more.

It has been a little while since I read one of Max's books. I read the synopsis of 'The Killer In Me' and it certainly sounded intriguing. I couldn't wait to dive in and so without further ado, I grabbed a cup of tea, grabbed my Kindle and settled down for an afternoon of reading. I did enjoy reading 'The Killer In Me' but more about that in a bit.
I have to say that 'The Killer In Me' is one of those books that once up on a time would have provoked a lively debate chez Book Geek Towers. My late Dad was a former psychiatric nurse and so psychopathy was a hot topic so to speak. I have to be honest and say that it took me a little while to get into 'The Killer In Me'. I think part of the problem was the fact that I didn't take to any of the characters and so found it hard to care about them or what happened to them. After a while I got into the story and from then on I found it rather hard to put the book down. I developed my own theories as to what was going to happen and so I had to keep reading to see if I was on the right track or whether or not I had taken a wrong turning and was heading in the opposite direction. The pages turned increasingly quickly as I made my way through the story. All too quickly I reached the end of 'The Killer In Me'. I found 'The Killer In Me' to be a gripping read, which certainly kept me guessing.
'The Killer In Me' is well written. Max certainly knows how to grab the reader's attention and draw them into what proves to be one hell of a story. For me, this was more of a slow burn type of story- as the story continues, the pace of the story gathers momentum leading to a tense and dramatic conclusion. Reading 'The Killer in Me' felt like being an at times scary and unpredictable rollercoaster ride with lots of twists and turns along the way. I love the way in which Max makes the reader feel as though they are part of the story and at the heart of the action.
In short and overall I did enjoy reading 'The Killer In Me'. I will certainly be reading more of Max's work in the future. The score ont he Ginger Book Geek board is a very well deserved 4* out of 5*.

I loved the premise for this one and was really excited to read it, but unfortunately, it just didn't deliver. I had to suspend my disbelief so many times that it just wasn't enjoyable any more, and I really disliked the main character, Liv. I can see that lots of other people really enjoyed this one, so don't let me review put you off if this sounds like your kind of thing, but it wasn't for me.

The premise of this was super appealing to me, who doesn’t like the concept of finding out someone is a psychopath who was otherwise none the wiser. The writing was great but the characters fell flat for me. Another book where I didn’t like any of the characters. Why does everyone think the easiest way out of a very simple scenario is to lie?! It just makes it worse and it infuriates me. However if you are a thriller lover who likes a twisty plot this could be the one for you!

An enjoyable read the kept me intrigued! Thank you to netgalley & max manning for the opportunity to read this book for an honest review!

Everything changes when you find out who you really are.
Over the past few months, I’ve lost a bit of weight without trying and suffered a few dizzy spells, both symptoms I put down to delayed shock and lingering grief. Losing your little sister is going to take its toll, mentally and physically.
The driver who killed her confessed and was convicted, but he’s going to be released from prison any day now.
Soon he’ll walk free but my teenage sister will still be dead.
I’m coming to grips with that knowledge when my world turns upside down.
I volunteer to take part in a study of the brains of violent criminals. I’ll be the control sample of a ‘normal’ brain. But then the doctor calls me into his office.
We need to discuss your scan . . .
I feel lightheaded as he breaks the news: I’m not normal. My brain shows all the classic features of a high-level psychopath.
Later as I take a sip of white wine in a city bar, my head is crowded with possibilities. Dark thoughts. Twisted opportunities.
Maybe it’s time to embrace my secret self.
Maybe finding out I’m a psychopath is the push I need to exact revenge . . .
What would you do?
I could not put this one down!!
Wonderful well written plot and story line that had me engaged from the start.
Love the well fleshed out characters and found them believable.
Great suspense and found myself second guessing every thought I had continuously.
Can't wait to read what the author brings out next.
Recommend reading.
I was provided an ARC from NetGalley and the publisher. This is my own honest voluntary review.
