Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review this book. It is way more comprehensive than I thought it would be. I really enjoyed it. I loved all the different things to try.
The Leaping Hare Wellness Almanac is my favorite self-help book of the year. The stunning visuals accompanied by the uplifting seasonal affirmations has brightened up my mornings. This book promotes mindfulness in such a beautiful way. Besides the positive messages, there’s also a ton of mindful hobby ideas such as meditation, baking, and crafting. If I could sum this book up in one word, it would be hygge. It has such a cozy, simple, and positive energy to it. Thank you to NetGalley and Leaping Hare Press for this eARC in exchange for my honest review.
Wellness is such a popular topic these days that it's becoming increasingly difficult to find something that has something new to say on the subject. This book is not it. Arranged by month, it offers reflections and meditations for the season, journaling ideas, movement suggestions, affirmations, and crafts and recipes to help the reader cultivate daily spiritual habits, but the suggestions feel over-generalized and superficial for the most part. I appreciate the emphasis on mindfulness and using crafting and gardening and cooking as ways of practicing that mindfulness, but most of the information given is likely to leave the wellness newbie even more confused. It's pretty and it fits that Instagrammable #selfcare vibe, but it lacks substance.
Thank you, Leaping Hare Press and NetGalley, for providing an eARC of this book. Opinions expressed here are solely my own.
Beautiful book. Would be an excellent gift. Full of ways to keep your body and mind at peace, as well as our earth.
My favorite bits include: yoga poses, recipes, journaling prompts, breathwork techniques, they even have a reading list and wellness resources!
I would recommend taking your time with this book, it’s not meant to be finished in one setting but as a guide to your year.
This book was full of intensity and great information, and I really enjoyed reading it. I feel like a better person for it.
This is a lovely book - as the title indicates, very much in the fashion of the old almanacs, with a wealth of wellness tips for each month, from a few yoga poses, to recipes, to - yes - how to make your own clay. The presentation and pictures are beautiful, it’s hard to imagine that just looking at it would fail to soothe even the most wound-up woman. The audience targeted is clearly women, which is in fact a bit of a shame - men surely would also benefit from the wealth of ideas on offer. There is nothing really ground-breaking there, but the packaging is very pleasant. It’s unclear why the publication date is 3 January - it would make a great Christmas present.
Leaping Hare Press’ “The Wellness Almanac” offers meditative and reflexive activities that contribute to a holistic approach to wellness. Romanian-born Raluca Spatacean exquisitely illustrates the pages of the guidebook that offers a healing balm to anyone who is looking for respite and re-centering amid the trials of everyday life. The activities described in the book are designed to follow the seasons: winter, spring, summer, and fall, offering a guide for hands-on rituals and mindful reflections to promote daily spiritual practices. For each month, affirmations, quotations, and inspiring passages about gratitude, being in the present moment, and the certainty of change underscore the importance of self-awareness and self-care. Movement prompts include instruction for light exercises, yoga positions, nutrition, craft, and gardening projects.
The imagery in the book highlights female bodies, revealing the target demographic for the book. This is not surprising, since the wellness industry is primarily geared toward women. The practices outlined in the book can be helpful for anyone, regardless of gender identity. As a woman of color, I appreciated the diversity of women depicted in the book: different body shapes, hair styles and textures, and facial features are well-represented. “The Wellness Almanac” would make a great gift for the woman who is giving her all every day, and need the gentle reminder to pause, remember her innate worth and potential, and do something nourishing for her soul.
The Leaping Hare Wellness Almanac: Your yearlong guide to creating positive spiritual habits is a book full of reflections, practices and activities to lift your heart, mind, body and soul. The illustrations are beautiful and soothing, and the activities are varied and easy to follow. There are all sorts of things from yoga sequences to gardening and star gazing. It is a lovely book for dipping into and getting a bit of a lift. Perfect as a gift book.
The layout is beautiful with wonderful, very appealing illustrations with very worthwhile guidance.
I really, really loved this book; good for you and extremely do-able ❤️
I’m recommending this one as a welcome addition to your bedside table or desk and it’s an excellent source of positivity for teens as well. I’m planning on getting a physical copy of this one for myself.
