When your mother is murdered while you’re still a baby, it’s only natural that, as you grow up, you start asking questions. The family members around you keep pointing the finger at a certain person, and you’re expected to accept that. But what do you do when that person suddenly reaches out to you and tells a completely different story? Do you believe them or not? This is the perfect moment to dig deeper and uncover the truth, so it can finally be clear once and for all who was truly responsible.

It’s a very intriguing story. On the one hand, you hear Jess’s voice as she recounts the events in the present, while Lori, her mother, provides us with the necessary background information.

By digging into the mystery surrounding the murder, Jess also learns more about who her mother really was and what her relationships with family members were like. As a result, she suddenly starts to see these people in a completely different light.

I felt not only Jess’s sorrow but also the guilt she carries because, although she was very young at the time, she can’t remember anything about the events—and that only fuels her drive for the truth even more.

I found the characters to be well developed—some revealed their true colors, while others definitely kept things to themselves.

For me, the pacing dipped a little here and there, which made the tension fade slightly, but the revelations more than made up for it. 4 stars.

Thank you.

The number of family members and friends was a bit confusing at times especially when you add to that the two time frames it switches between. I had a help remember the time frame when quite earl6 on one of the characters says “Sorry Laurie” more than once in a short period and it tickled me so the characters stuck with me.
Overall everyone behaved either without thinking or with malice or plain stupidly. So not really for me

Twenty years Jessica lost her mom at the hands of a murderer. At the time of the murder, Jess was two years old and has no memory of the tragic event. Throughout the years, she remained eager to learn the details of the murder. Her eagerness morphed into an obsession with learning what happened that fateful day twenty years ago. One Friday afternoon while walking in Camden, a stranger approaches Jess. As the stranger came closer, she recognised him as the man who everyone blamed for her mother’s murder, but with the lack of evidence an arrest was not made. He insists on speaking with her as he needs her to know he did not murder her mother. The information he imparts leaves Jess more confused than ever. If what the stranger said was true, then it would mean her family lied to her and she would need to find the truth for herself. In her desire to learn the truth, she went to the persons who would have the answers. However, they all tell her to leave the past where it belongs. This made more obsessed with uncovering the truth. The more she digs, the more secrets come to light. Soon she’s entangled in a web of deceit, lies and secrets. A web, which if untangled, will unravel her entire world.
Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for giving me an advance copy.

Thank you to Netgalley for allowing me to read this book in return for an honest review. I’m a fan of Kathryn Croft and have read a few of her books already so I was hoping that I would enjoy this one too. The story jumps from the present to the past throughout the book but it is easy enough to grasp what timeline you are reading. I found this book to be a really good psychological thriller with lots going on and a really in-depth story. I have to admit that I didn’t see the ending coming at all! A really good plot twist. I would definitely recommend this book and I have given it 4 stars.

Another fantastic read from Kathryn Croft and she is fast becoming one of my favourite authors. The characters were so lifelike and I was rooting for the protagonist right until the very end. The writing, as usual, was brilliant. It had me absorbed and invested in every second. I can’t wait to read more from the author in the future. Thank you to Netgalley, the author, and publisher for a chance to read this book.

Lori was murdered twenty eight years ago as she walked in the park. She had her two year old daughter Jess with her in a pushchair. Jess grew up with her father and stepmother but , of course, had no recollection of that day. A man was accused of the murder but not convicted so the case was left unsolved. Thirty years later Jess is approached by this man who still protests his innocence but needs to tell Jess what happened. Her family try and persuade her not to have anything to do with him and before she can speak to him he is found dead. Who wanted him dead and why are her family lying to her? Jess goes to his flat and finds evidence that the man was telling the truth, so who did kill her mother? The story is told in two timelines , the past by Lori and the present by Jess. This book has a gripping plot with tension, suspense and plenty of twists and turns. A really enjoyable read.
Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for giving me the opportunities to read and review this book.
