Meg loves cooking especially desserts but in the early 60's women chefs aren't a thing. Her mother gets in touch to ask for Meg's help with an event being held in the hotel she is working at. As things escalate Meg finds she has to take over the kitchen and isn't pleased when Justin, the owners son, arrives to step in, This is a continuation of the last couple of Katie's 60's stories so we revisit previous characters and catch up with their stories. A delightful and charming story.
This book is set in the 1960's and, at first, I wasn't sure how I'd feel about that because I like modern fiction but I am so glad that I read it as I really, really enjoyed this fabulous book! It is, in essence, a romance but also a story showcasing being a woman in a role (professional chef) that was predominantly male. This is a really enjoyable and uplifting read which I would highly recommend.
Another fabulous book from Katie Fforde , great cast of characters, conflict, romance , what’s not to love . Beach read or cosy weekend on the sofa…highly recommended!
I loved reading this one. I just love this kind of books.
4 stars read for me. I love this author snd her writing style.
Thanks to netgally for this arc.
Love Katie Fforde novels and this is defo one to add to your bookshelf. Loved the characters and the romance! A beach read for sure.
One of those books it’s hard to put down!
Meg is a budding chef who goes to help her Mum out in the hotel she helps run. She clashes heads with the owners son Justin but the sparks fly! The book follows their interactions and the challenges Meg faces both professionally and personally.
Justin is a typical fiery chef ( think Gordon Ramsey ) and is convinced Meg’s mother is a gold digger who is not after his father Andrew’s heart but his hotel.
When Justin’s uncle wants to sell the hotel to get his inheritance, Meg and her Mum turn Miss Marple to try and find an important document and to find the mysterious third beneficiary of the will who has inherited a share of the hotel. They are amazed to discover just who this is.
Will this bring her and Justin together or forever drive a wedge between them?
Katie Fforde is one of the most reliable authors on the shelves for feel good romance and this title is no exception, one to take to the beach this summer
Katie Fforde delivers another exceptional novel.
One Enchanted Evening is a great story with different threads to follow allowing you to enjoy different angles of the story as it unfolds.
She’s done it again.. another lovely lovely book, I was hooked from the first page and really got invested in both the hotel and the characters, to the point you could feel the passion in wanting the hotel to flourish and continue. Would highly recommended

I absolutely loved this book, it was beautifully written and I got so engrossed in the story. It flowed really well and was easy to read and you get lost in the book and I didn't want to put it down.
The book was centered around a hotel in Dorset in 1964. The main character Meg wants to be a professional chef but it's very much a man's world and she is informed many times that male chefs will not have women in their kitchen.
When Meg gets a call from her mother, panicking that she is in charge of the hotel but they have a massive dinner coming up and the current chef has sacked most of the staff, she rushes to Dorset to help out.
The book isn't out until March so I don't want to give much away but it's quite a journey Meg goes on. I recommend that you pre-order and read this book as it is another triumph for Katie Fforde and I would give it a 5* review
Being a great Katie Fforde fan, I expected an entertaining, feel good story, and wasn’t disappointed. Set in the 60s, Meg dashes off to help her mother to prepare and cook for a banquet at Nightingale Woods, a faded Dorset hotel. When the resident chef walks out, sacking most of the staff, Mag steps in taking control of the chaos.
An excellent chef in her own right, Meg is disturbed when Justin, the son of the owner of the hotel turns up, and arrogantly takes charge.
During the 60s women weren’t expected to be top chefs, their place was as waitresses serving dishes prepared by men. Meg doesn’t fit the stereotype and shows her creative and professional skills, but Justin isn’t prepared to trust her.
A fascinating conflict of opinions, with warm, friendly and relatable characters resulting in an absorbing, entertaining read. As the heat in the kitchen warms up, romance between Meg and Jordan begins to sizzle. I particularly enjoyed the friendships between the female characters and light-hearted humour. Descriptions of the dishes served up by Meg sounded so scrumptious I wanted to book in at the hotel. The author brings the scene alive with the stroke of a skilled pen. Delicious escapism at its best, highly recommended.
Another great story from Katie Fforde. This follows Meg (who we have met in 2 previous books) as she moves to Dorset to help her mum in the lovely Nightingale Woods Hotel.
A lovely story about family and friends at the beautiful Nightingale Woods Hotel. Set in the 1960s , this story has it
all with a mysterious owner, a demanding Lady, financial woes, and a romance to sweep you off your feet.
A warm and charming read . I enjoyed it so much. ..
Katie Fforde writes lovely romantic stories and this is another of her best. Met travels to Dorset to help her mother who is running Nightingales Wood, a charming but dated and rather rundown hotel.
Meg is training to be a chef and is due to start working for a pittance in France to improve her skills. However she soon realised that Nightingale Wood needs her now and gets stuck in helping to stop the hotel failing even more. She has the help of Susan and her vast array of useful relatives, particularly Bob who was a gardener but finds he is also a very good plumber.
Justin is the son of Nightingale Wood s owner and also an accomplished chef. He is grumpy and dismissive of Megs ability to run the hotel kitchen. Met gates him in sight but as with all romantic takes that may not last.
There are lots of lovely characters in this book; Amboisine who has lived in the hotel for many years, Louse, Meg's mum who used to be a school matron and is ripe for her own romance and all of Meg's friends who bring their own trials and tribulations but also help in Nightingale Wood's time of need.
Nice easy read set in beautifuk surroundings. Very enjoyable. Alwasy love a Kate Fforde book, sje never lets the reader down.
I love Katie Fforde novels and this one did not disappoint! This is the perfect read when you just want to unwind and escape from life.
Meg steps in to help her mum out of a difficult situation, before leaving for France to pursue her dream of training with a French chef. Meg's character is reflective of how I imagine women were treated in the mid 60's and they certainly weren't thought of as chef's in hotel kitchens!
However, things don't run quite so smoothly and she ends up becoming more involved with the hotel than she had intended, and little by little she becomes to feel settled and falls in love with the hotel. Only, the hotel owner's son does not seem to appreciate her efforts or at least that is the initial impression he appears to give.
As the hotel's business improves, Meg has to make decision about where she wants her life to be...
Another great book by the lady of romance Katie Fforde.
Follow the story of Meg as she goes to aide her mother in running a slightly run down country hotel owned by the moody Justin's father.
Will Meg succeed in the kitchen or will she leave Justin to manage it himself.
A fantastic page turner with a feel good factor.
Very enjoyable!

As usual in my reviews, I will not rehash the plot or publisher's blurb!
I've read several novels by Katie Fforde, and enjoyed them all, so I was very pleased to receive an ARC of this book.
I was expecting a cheerful and gentle read, and was not disappointed. I was delighted that the book featured characters from several of the other novels I've read, so it was great to meet them again, together with a cast of new characters.
Set once again in the 60s, the descriptions of the settings, food, clothes and lifestyles felt very authentic. Opinions and perceptions were very different then from now, and these aspects were well reflected. It was also great to see how Meg and Justin's opinions of each other changed as the book progressed (I won't say more as I don't want to give anything away).
A lovely relaxing read, perfect for a winters day, or for that matter as a holiday read!
I look forward to reading more by Katie Fforde.
My thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for an ARC. All opinions my own.
Another lovely book from Katie Fforde. This has two gorgeous settings, likeable characters and romance. Meg wants to be a chef but in the 1960s the only kitchens that women should be seen in are their own at home! Meg has attended a cookery course in London and the friends she has made there feature in this. Her mum Louise calls her from the beautiful hotel where she works as they desperately need help and when she gets there the drunk head chef Geoff walks out. Throw in Justin, the grumpy son of the owner Andrew and a few twists and turns and the result is a book that you can curl up with and actually imagine yourself staying at the hotel.. Thank you to Random House UK Cornerstone and Netgalley for the opportunity to read this in exchange for an honest review.
Katie Fforde books are some of my favourites. She has the talent of mixing interesting characters with places we would all love to visit. Stepping back into the working era of the 60’s when men were considered superior to the ‘little woman’ was brilliantly done. Enter Meg who is not only talented in her chosen career but has the strength of character not to be intimidated. There are so many twists and turns with the owner of the hotel having to go to France to sort out his late fathers estate, his brother Colin trying to sell the hotel they jointly own and a connection to WW2. I loved everything about this book and it’s characters.
