This was a simple, fun, easy and quick read. The perfect type of book for your holiday, beach, pool kind of read. This is a first for me by the author and one I enjoyed and I would read more of their work. The book cover is eye-catching and appealing and would spark my interest if in a bookshop. Thank you very much to the author, publisher and Netgalley for this ARC.
Once again Katie Fforde takes us back to the 60's with us travelling between France and Dorset on a culinary journey with Meg as she learns her trade. We are joined on this journey by Megs friends (Lizzie, Vanessa, David and Alexandra), who we have met before in the series, but don't let this put you off, this is a stand alone story that has wonderful links there to let you remember past books and their stories - and want to relive them again.
We have more romance in this book as we also have the story of Megs mum to enjoy.
Loved it.
Meg is called upon by her mum to help the fledgling Nightingale Woods Hotel. She has her work cut out, least of all because the hotel owners son has archaic views about women but if Meg is anything she is fierce, determined and dedicated to the hotel. A good read set in the 60s, my only (pedantic) criticism is that the character names seemed too modern for that era.
A quick read set in both Dorset and France, perfect for the coming summer beach read. There are quite a few characters but it doesn’t detract too much from the story.
Another wonderful heart warming book by Katie Fforde. Beautifully written, filled with likeable characters and vivid descriptions. The only negative I would say is that some of the characters did follow on from a previous book and whilst you didn’t need to have read it, it did help to know the background of such characters. Lovely story and was a joy to read.
Easy read, very predictable but still enjoyable. Enemies to lovers romance set in the 60s. It was a bit too cheesy at times which is why I’ve marked it down but I read it pretty quick and it held my attention. Don’t know if I would read anymore by this author as it was a bit too pg and old fashioned.
Bit of a mixed bag for me this book. It reminded me of a similar one by the author, also set in the 60’s but it never actually felt like it was set then, Unlike that book, at least this one had a better storyline to keep you going as you read it.
I usually like Katie Fforde books but for some reason I could not get into this one, I found the characters dull and a very formulaic storyline.
I was excited to be able to review One Enchanted Evening by one of my favourite authors!
Her stories and unputdownable ( its not a real word but it should be).
Do you have an author who makes you feel like you're catching up with an old friend every time you get a new novel from them? Katie's works are exactly that for me. (and my mum, her number one fan). I've wanted to write a book for Meg since we met in A Wedding in the Country, so I've been anticipating this one since it was revealed.
The storyline and writing were both beautiful, as usual, and the pacing was superb. Because Katie always creates very realistic characters, I felt connected to all of the characters in this book and the larger series.
She is now regarded as a national asset.
I’m usually a massive Katie Fforde fan but this one didn’t really get out of the starter blocks for me. It was all very nice and very well written but didn’t really deliver much more outside of being a nice book with nice characters.
Another delightful, feel good story from Katie Fforde. A appealing cast of characters, most of whom are there to make a happy. prosperous life. A very good storyline which covers a lot of action, joy and sorrow. A very satisfying conclusion. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it!
I love the writing style of Katie Fforde and the familiar characters were a welcome return for me. I love my home town of Dorset for the setting. Unusually this story travels back to the 1960's. Meg's determination to succeed is key to her character. If you love likeable characters, a charming setting and some good old fashioned romance then this is the book for you.
First of all I would like to thank Penguin Random House for such a wonderful book .
I’ve only read one of Katie books before which I did very much enjoy , this book didn't disappoint me, I was very Intrigued by the title enchanting well anything with enchanting in I'm there.
The story story it's self was just so cute gave me girlmore girls vibes , the setting was just wonderful , based in Dorset Devon which isn't far from me , in a hotel called The Nightinggale Woods which now I want to visit . Was just so magical and full of great Atmosphere.based in the 1960s which I totally love just perfect .
I really enjoyed the main characters meg who I think very happy go lucky and the little grumpy broody Justin the chef they was just brilliant. Played well off eachother characters. You can relate pretty well to the characters.
The story and writing I thought was very well paced . So easy to follow Practically perfect.
Over all I really love a romance and Katie didn't disappoint it was so captivating. I think the book is great for lifting people sprites. I'm very much looking forward to reading more from Katie and will be recommending to friends .
Big Giant romantic stars 🌟
Thanks to netgalley for the chance to read this book.
Head back to Dorset in the 1960’s where Megs mother Louise invites her to the hotel she’s currently running. Meg finds herself attempting to make the hotel profitable again when she stands in for the chef after the previous one quit. The owners so Justin starts to ruffle Megs feathers and Meg digs her heals in further to keep the hotel going. Meg finds herself falling in love with both the hotel and Justin.
Cute book however did not really felt like I am reading a novel based on the 60's. I dunno for me it didnt quite capture the time. But other than that it was enjoyable, easy read.
I usually love Katie Foorde books but I'm not a big fan of this series set in the 60s. This one is my favorite and I enjoyed the story, appreciated how the characters were more realistic and relatable, liked the romance.
Compelling and entertaining.
Recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher for this arc, all opinions are mine
At first I couldn't get into the book as my brain kept thinking it was set in the present day so I couldn't work out why people didn't ring / text each other and things took so long to sort out.
It's actually set in the 60's so they didn't have all the mod cons we rely on now ! Once that was straight in my head I enjoyed it
I love Katie Fforde’s books. I have read a few now and each one I have found very easy to read and they always just flow, and this one wasn’t any different. I got the impression early on that this was part of a group of stories, some of which I haven’t read but this didn’t effect the read and would happily recommend this as a read alone story. Although I guessed the plot line to this story, it was still a really pleasant read and I flew though it, really enjoying the characters Meg, her mum and her friends and her budding relationship with Justin. Really recommend to anyone who is looking for an easy going book to read!
This book is set in Dorset in the 1960’s. Meg’s mother Louise invites her to the hotel that she’s currently running as she desperately needs a chef after the previous one quit. Things get off to a bumpy start with the owners son Justin but Meg soon finds herself trying to make the hotel profitable again so that it doesn’t have to close down. She knows how much her mother loves the hotel and how much it means to her to keep it going. Meg falls in love with the hotel too.
I enjoyed this book and would recommend it. It kept me interested and wondering what would happen next and I wasn’t disappointed.
Thank you to netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for my honest review.
This wasn't for me. I normally enjoy this genre but overall this felt very vanilla. Its set in a country hotel and the lead character is a chef, so it had a lot of potential but the story took a very predictable safe route.
I have read books from the author before, and my expectations were high. I was unable to endure more than 25%. In fairness perhaps the best was to come. That said, the style of writing felt very dated, almost like it feels when I read Enid Blyton now. The dialogue felt stilted and unnatural which left the characters quite one dimensional and indistinguishable. The pace was extremely slow and the plot unexciting. Even the romantic leads felt stereotypical - the male lead predictably irritable, unpleasant and curt, the female lead snippy and independent. Neither exuded charm or appeal. I feel really bad leaving a poor review because so much time and effort goes into to producing a novel but I could not force myself to read any further.
