A new Katie Fforde, what’s not to love. Her stories are always enchanting and this is no exception.
Set in 1964, Meg, who has always dreamed of being a professional chef, heads to Dorset to the hotel where her mother works to help out in a crisis. She clashes with the owner’s son Justin who, typically of the 60’s, thinks that a woman cannot be a chef. Sparks fly and, of course, romance blossoms as we follow Meg towards her dreams.
A lovely story with a happy ending and so nice to meet up with characters from previous books. Lovers of romance will thoroughly enjoy this one.
This was such a sweet pallette cleanser and the perfect lazy Sunday afternoon read. Set around a small hotel in Dorset. Louise invites her daughter Meg to help out after the hotels chef walks out. When Justin, the owners son, demands she leaves because she's an untrained woman and they instantly clash.
I just loved this delightful story centred around the hotel. It's such a laid back, easy read and the perfect beach read. You knew as soon as Meg and Justin instantly hated each other that they would eventually get together so it was fun to see it play out. Lovely cast of characters, great storyline and oh my word lots of delicious sounding food.
I love Katie Fforde’s books and this did not disappoint. It’s like meeting up with an old and much loved friend ♥️. I really loved this story and was once again transported back to the 1960’s. It was lovely to meet up again with the characters from a Wedding in the Country and a Wedding in Provence. Lovely characters, romance, and food - what’s not to like 🥰.
Many thanks to the publishers and Netgalley for an advanced copy of this book
Katie’s novels are excellent and the title ‘One enchanted evening’ sums this novel up to a tee! An absolutely delightful story with wonderful characters and revolving around food. What more could you want? Romance? Don’t worry it’s there too! Meg goes to help her mother Louise in a small hotel in Dorset where she finds herself enjoying working in the kitchen- she always wanted to be a professional chef. The story follows from here.
First of all, thank you to Net Galley and the publishers, Random House, for an advanced copy of this book.
I have read a couple of Katie Fforde books before and really enjoyed them and this one didn’t disappoint either. A beautiful setting at Nightingale Woods Hotel in Dorset, one of my favourite places. The story is set in the 1960’s and followed Meg’s story.
Meg goes to help her mother, Louise, at the hotel. It follows the ups and downs that running a country hotel entails. They desperately want to improve the hotel by adding en-suite bathrooms and improving the decoration. The owner of the hotel has recently passed away and the son’s of the owner are trying to find a mysterious third beneficiary of the hotel. Justin is a moody, handsome chef who happens to be the son of one of the sons.
Eventually, Meg follows her dream of working in a French restaurant in France but eventually returns to Dorset, as the elderly hotel resident, Ambrosine, has broken her hip and asks to see Meg.
I adored Ambrosine who had a fabulous back story of helping the French resistance during WW2 in occupied France whilst being married to a French Count who was a Nazi sympathiser and held regular dinner parties for them. I would love to read more of her story during this time.
A typical happy ending but thoroughly enjoyable.
This was a weird one, I usually like this author but this was so old fashioned and such a slow read, I get that it was set in the 1960’s but it was bordering on ridiculous. Any book that contains the line ‘suddenly I realised I’d fallen in love with him’ is just not a bit of me 🤷🏽♀️
Loved, loved, loved this book! Katie delivers as always! It made me want to rent a Chateau in France, eat beautiful food, and soak up the sunshine. It helps you escape from real life and dream of life and love. Well done again, Katie!
Love Kate Fforde novels and for me this another bestseller. Beautifully written, it’s a story of Meg and how she reconnects with her Mum and turns a lovely country hotel into a success, despite a few obstacles along the way and of course there’s the usual romantic entanglement.
A lovely, enchanting read which has got me in the mood for long summer evenings. The 1960’s setting was cute and I’d be very interested to see what has become of Nightingale Woods hotel in 2023.
What a charming novel. The title of the book is very appropriate it's full of warmth, charm and beautiful characters .Loved Meg and her love of Nightingale Woods a gorgeous little hotel shines through from when she first sets eyes on it,and her friendship with the wonderful Ambrosine is beautiful..A wonderful story and I highly recommend it
This is my first book by this author that I have read and I found it to be an easy romance fiction story.
Meg travels to the lovely setting of an old-fashioned dated but quaint country hotel in Dorset to assist her mother Louise. She very quickly falls in love with the place and sees many opportunities to bring the hotel and its grounds up to scratch in the hope of attracting more clients, in the hope of saving it from being sold.
Meg also travels to Provence in France to train with an accomplished chef and although she enjoys her time there, her heart is still in Dorset.
This story contains many different characters some of whom are not particularly pleasant but overall it is a nice easy story to read.
My thanks to Net Galley and the Publishers for the ARC of this book.
Who doesn’t enjoy a love story , you get a great idea of the setting as very descriptive, an old country hotel set in the 1960’s,
Great old fashioned style escapism and romance!! Set in the mid 1960’s in deepest Dorset! The swinging 60’s although a little evident in places, does not affect the beautiful innocence of that time.
Meg has been called to the Dorset Hotel where her mother works to help out at a traditional banquet that is coming up, Meg is happy to have a break from London and the male dominated kitchens of the fashionable capital. She loves to make traditional cakes and puddings and her dream is to be trained as a pastry chef in France. The hotel was transformed from an old large house to a small hotel, but is still in need of a lot of updating and renovations to keep up with modern demands from visitors. How can Meg help her mum?
We are taken on quite an adventure with Meg and her friends and family!
I loved reading this, warm and wonderful, most relaxing and enjoyable tale. Great escapism and another great classic from Katie Fforde!!! Just love Katie Fforde’s books!!
Thank you to NetGalley and Penguin books for the chance to read early.
A delightful read. An insight into running a country house hotel with a love story running throughout. A really good holiday read
I usually enjoy Katie’s books but this one was not for me. I struggled to get into it and just couldn’t get my head around all the different characters’ names. I didn’t connect with any of them and found Meg really moany and irritating. Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for allowing me to read this book.
I really enjoyed this novel by Katie, having followed Meg in previous books.
As much as this was an easy read it wasn't my favourite novel by Katie but it wouldn't put me off passing this on to all of my friends.
Katie Fforde never fails to write a riveting read. I’ve loved all her books and this was no exception.
Set in 1964 Meg is working in a ‘man’s’ world and struggles with it. A lovely setting with wonderful characters.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC in return for an honest review. It was a sheer pleasure.
This book was not for me I’m afraid. I’m usually a big Katie Fforde fan but I really struggled with the characters in this one. This maybe due to when the story is set, therefore just not finding them relatable. I found Meg quite petty and moany, and her mam was annoying. Justin grew on me which I knew he would, but I spent most of the book rolling my eyes and quite uninterested. Sorry 😞
I’ve been a fan of Katie Fforde’s books since I started reading romance in my late teens. So I got my hands on One Enchanted Evening asap!
This story is set in the 1960s, and follows Meg, the third of the friends first introduced in A Wedding in the Country. This book would work really well as a standalone, but I have enjoyed reading them in order.
I loved the setting of this story. The Nightingale Woods is enchanting, if rather run down, and I loved exploring it and the grounds through Meg’s eyes.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. I really liked Meg, who is a quiet character in general, but stands up for herself when necessary. I wasn’t sure about Justin to start with, he was very rude and patronising, but by the end of the story we get to see his true character.
I loved the fact that as well as the romance(s), the story is full of friendships.
Overall, this was a lovely gentle romance. Perfect for whiling away a few hours.
I was given a copy of this book, my opinions are my own.
what a great book! i loved the story of meg and the nightingale hotel so much i would love to stay there! i’m love the way the author describes the place that you feel you are there. a book for a cold winters day or a summer beach read. would defo recommend
