This was a disappointment for me after absolutely loving one of Louise Jensen’s previous books. It didn’t help that it was really badly formatted for kindle, with Copyrighted, HarperCollins, material and Publishers in large bold letters appearing somewhere on every other page. Lots of missing words didn’t help either. Apart from the formatting errors I didn’t enjoy the story. It was slow paced, uninteresting, and just seemed to drag on forever. A bit of a surprise at the end but otherwise it was just an OK read, sorry.

Louise Jensen is the mistress of contemporary family dramas, with her fiction often showcasing how, once you lift the lid slightly, seemingly idyllic family lives corrode. This is also the broad premise for ‘The Fall’. The main characters of the novel are identical twins Beth and Kate, who each have a fifteen-year-old daughter and whose lives are further entwined by their joint efforts to keep the family farm going through turbulent times. A terrible accident puts Kate’s daughter Caily in hospital. When the police investigation starts to suggest that Beth’s daughter Tegan was somehow involved, and when other deeply buried family secrets are slowly revealed, the whole extended family starts to disintegrate …. Well-written and pulling at the heartstrings regularly, this is a book that should quickly gain plenty of new readers. Thank you, NetGalley and the publishers, for the free ARC I was gifted in exchange for this honest book review.

Kate and Beth are twin sisters who each have a 15 year old daughter. They are a close family and struggle to makes ends meet while running the family farm. Kate’s daughter, Caily, is found unconscious near a bridge and at first they think it is an accident but then believe there was foul play, but who would want to hurt Caily?

This book was ok at best for me. I didn’t like the farm setting at all. I didn’t really care about the characters. I found this to be totally boring for the first third, then it picked up a little for the middle third and then I was pretty checked out for the last third. It’s true most of the characters were hiding things but when these things were revealed I didn’t find them to be very compelling. This one will like appeal to some readers l, but it was just a miss for me.

A novel of twisty family secrets, The Fall is a cleverly insightful and hugely engaging psychological thriller that will keep you turning those pages until the final reveal.

The family dynamic of characters works really well, a tale of distinct personalities and intriguing undertones. Overall everything you'd want and expect from a psychological thriller. Well written and addictive.

Enjoyed it muchly.

This is not as thrilling as some of the author’s previous books. But it was well written with interesting characters. The plot is good and fast-paced. Good book overall.

This is the first book I have read by this author and I really enjoyed it. Although a thriller it felt like a nice easy read curled up with my blanket and I couldn't put it down. Gripped from the first page it was a storyline including financial hardship which is so relatable at this moment in time. A good solid read I recommend this book

This was s good read, It was a fast paced novel with plenty of twists and turns. Kate and her twin Beth are very closer and so are their daughters Teagan and Caily. The twin celebrate their 40th birthday and the following day their lives are turned upside down when Caily is found at the bottom of a bridge. Who pushed her and why? This book will keep you guessing right to the last minute

Nice easy read thriller, excellent tension building up until the reveal, then it unfortunately fell a little flat for me story wise.
Good and believable characters with depth and narrative threads of their own, as well as feeding into the main story.

It was nice to see a resolution and a bit about the characters after the main events, as you don't often get that.

A good read.
She promised she wouldn’t tell. They made sure she couldn’t... At her surprise 40th birthday party, Kate Granger feels like the luckiest woman in the world but just hours later her fifteen-year-old daughter, Caily, is found unconscious underneath a bridge when she should have been at school. Now, Caily lies comatose in her hospital bed, and the police don’t believe it was an accident. As the investigation progresses, it soon becomes clear that not everyone in the family was where they claimed to be at the time of her fall. Caily should be safe in hospital but not everyone wants her to wake up. Someone is desperate to protect the truth and it isn’t just Caily’s life that is in danger. Because some secrets are worth killing for...
Loved it.
Thanks to NetGalley and HQ for giving me an advance copy.

Twins Kate and Beth have just turned forty and the family hold a surprise party in one of the barns at the farm. They seem a really tight unit but looks can be deceptive. The following afternoon the twins daughters Caily and Tegan miss a dress rehearsal for the school performance of La La Land with Caily taking the leading role. Where are they? Why does Caily end up in hospital in a coma following a fall from a bridge into rocks below? There are so many inconsistencies and question marks about Caily’s injuries the police don’t believe it’s an accident. This tears apart the whole family as a multitude of secrets bubble up to the surface.

There is much to enjoy in Louise Jensen’s latest psychological thriller. The farm provides a really good, atmospheric backdrop to the unravelling of lives. There’s a building sense of claustrophobia which combined with several characters despair adds another level to the storytelling. There’s a growing threat too and so danger levels rise. It becomes apparent as revelations emerge a bit at a time, that many characters are concealing serious things and there’s a great deal of pain and hurt in several directions. The plot is certainly packed with incident and so it’s a never a dull moment read. There’s maybe a bit too much drama on occasion but what that achieves is to set you off going down blind alleys as you try to figure things out and I do enjoy that!

It is without question an immersive easy read page turner but at times I find the short staccato sentences grate and one or two things are maybe too dragged out.

Overall though, the author sure knows how to pull a reader into her plot maze and keep your eyes super glued to the pages!!

With thanks to NetGalley and especially to HQ for the much appreciated arc in return for an honest review.

I’m a big fan of Louise Jensen but I just felt this story dragged out a bit and was a bit too much in places. Having said that the storyline is good and relevant as a lot of families are struggling financially and perhaps this is why I found it hard to read in places.

This new book from Louise Jensen certainly keeps you on your toes. From start to finish it is a totally gripping and exciting read.

This was a fantastic multi perspective read about a family falling apart seemingly overnight. One day they’re celebrating their 40th birthdays with a surprise party and the next day twins Kate and Beth are devastated by what they thought was an accidental fall that put Kate’s daughter Caily in a coma but in time they come to learn the police don’t think this was an accident and Beth’s daughter Tegan come under suspicion.

There is a lot going on in this and what looks like a close family soon comes under pressure from more than just the fall as more and more secrets are revealed. So many people were holding things back I was pretty much suspecting everyone by the end and whilst the ending was shocking I think I’d reached the stage of realising it literally could be anyone given how messed up this family actually was under the surface. The plot was woven together masterfully as there were many strands that led to what happened and they all came together dramatically. 9/10

This was a fantastic psychological thriller definitely kept me on the edge right to the end.

It is Kate joint birthday party where she has a great night along with her twin sister. The next day Kate daughter Callie is found after having a fall she is found under the bridge and put in a coma. Kate then realises this was no accident and everyone in her family are keeping secrets which could put herself and Callie in danger.

This was a real page tuner will be recommending this to everyone it was so good.

Absolutely brilliant! This book contained everything I look for - realistic, well developed characters, a fascinating plot with lots of layers and some really emotional bits too.

I was invested in the story from the start and was intrigued to see what all the members of Caily's family were hiding. I did guess parts of the outcome but there were so many layers to the story that there were still a nice few surprises there for me. I didn't expect to get emotional but there's a part near the end that really got me, that's all I will say to avoid spoilers!

The only very slight negative is that I sometimes couldn't remember if I was reading from Kate or Beth's perspective mid-chapter, their 'voices' were very similar which I suppose is to be expected as they were identical twins, but it did confuse me a few times.

Overall I thought the book was fantastic and would definitely recommend it.

Kate and Beth, identical twins, are forty, and a surprise party has been arranged for them at their parents’ farm. Their daughters, Caily and Tegan, are fifteen, and, as the story unfolds, not without angst and full of secrets. With old friends showing up, and strangers appearing on doorsteps, this is a book that will keep you on your toes!

Louise Jensen has yet again shown us what a brilliant storyteller she is. Full of well rounded characters, dodgy dealings, secrets and lies, all presented in an excellent plot and totally riveting. Another smash hit for Jensen!

Thank you NetGalley.

Thank you NetGalley for this advanced copy. Twins Kate and Beth turn 40 and life spirals from there. Caily and Teagan are their daughters who are both ballet dancers. One day, Caily falls off a bridge and Teagan's skin cells are found under her nails. But, other characters play out in this book as well. A missing sex offender, a father in prison, a man trying to collect on a debt. What happened to Caily. While the ending was a shock, this book overall was just ok. It was kind of drug out. I would not say this was a thriller. More just a fiction book. Not as good as her previous books.

A spooky and original thriller by the incomparable Louise Jensen, telling the story of a woman who faces unbearable news on the evening of her 40th birthday and tries to discover who wanted to cause her daughter harm. An excellent read!
