This was cozy feel good story. I was immediately excited to read this because of the premise. Two dogs and a car..must read it. I enjoyed the writing and characters.
The story of two unique basset hounds as they find their new home with the Watson family. In a quaint little village the Watson family dogs are infamous, taking the convertible for joyrides and being taught to speak. Nathaniel Johnson keeps the book short and sweet with the light hearted purpose of how dogs can complete a family and bring people together. Phoebe and Fred is a joyously cozy read that is full of quirky characters that extend beyond these two adorable basset hounds but to the inhabitants of the town itself. Moving and heartwarming story of love in a family.
Thank you to NetGalley and Atmosphere Press for sharing this digital ARC in exchange for my honest review.
Chaos and controversy ensues in a quaint seaside village when a sporty Jaguar is taken for a joyride. The perpetrators are seen roaring through town with the top down and racing goggles on….ears flapping in the wind. Phoebe and Fred are two very smart, not always obedient basset hounds. Local inventor and basset “owner” Henry has fitted the sports car to be driven with 4 short, pudgy dog legs and he has indeed taught Fred how to drive.
The community is confused by driving bassets who can also talk and do math. Some smile with amazement while others want “something done” about those bassets.
This is a fun tale loaded with whimsy and charm. The village has its share of quirky characters. Fred, Phoebe and their family are devoted to one another. Yes, this is a pleasant little fantasy for dog lovers. #netgalley #PhoebeAndFred

Not just for dog lovers, this is a fun and light hearted story about acceptance and people coming together. I loved the characters and wished there was more to read about the two dogs, especially.
I really wanted to like this book. I love anything that involves dogs but it just fell flat for me. I actually had to DNF it. Now this is my opinion so it doesn't mean that you won't like it. Give it a try and see how it is. It is a short read.
Thank you NetGalley and Atmosphere Press for allowing me to give my honest opinion on this ARC.
Just a quick cosy read about two Basset Hounds Shenanigans in a small village called Harmony. This is a nice easy read, with fun adventures with quirky characters. This wasn't what I originally expected, but ut was a fun read I just think this would be better for a younger audience.
A very fun read about two bonded basset hound rescues who cause havoc to locals, bring love to a family & locals, and have a bit of fun. This short story brought a smile to my face and a tear to my eye as it entertained. Great read for dog lovers and maybe even dog “change the minds of not” lovers.

Thank you to Atmosphere Press and #NetGalley for the digital ARC of #PhoebeandFred. The opinions expressed here are completely my own.
As the owner of 4 basset hounds over the years, I couldn't resist the cover of this book. Sadly, the cover is the best thing about this book. Based on the publisher description, I was expecting more about the joys and challenges of living with this goofy breed (god help us, we love them despite the drool and stubborn nature). But this is a light-hearted, somewhat silly story of a quirky family and their 2 basset hounds who ultimately win over the affection of the townspeople. It's not bad - just not what I was expecting.
Perfect quick read if you like cozy stories with quirky characters and dogs.
