This was a reasonably interesting domestic thriller, with the common premise of characters getting into more trouble the more they try to get out of it.
Without being particularly groundbreaking it rattled along with some good cliff hangers and red herrings. But after a quite well involved two hander between two different narrators the ending (protagonist reveal) seemed to be quite quick and lacking a real motive or reader satisfaction.
Still, easy to read and quite pacy.

This is an easy read but because the main event happens so early on in the book I felt there were parts that seemed to drag. The denouement wasn’t what I expected and for that reason I would recommend this book. It’s not really a thriller but there is jeopardy and tension.

A fairly average read, but a quick read and enough to keep you intrigued to an extent. Not sure if the storyline was compelling enough for me and certainly the ending was a bit weak. And actually I can't really say I fully 'got' the ending!

i read this a few days ago and ive had to let it sit wit me for a bit before i did the review, as i was unsure how i felt about it.
I felt i enjoyed the beginning and end of this book but the middle just seemed to drag. I do see that there was little bits thrown into the story all the way through to give the ending, but id guessed some of the main pot line by a third of the way into the book. I felt that this seemed to spoil the thrill of the story for me.
I read this as i did enjoy Local Woman Missing by the same author and i do enjoy her writing style. It was a really easy read, but i just didn't feel it kept me fully engaged all the time.

I enjoyed the way the story was written with the right amount of pace and intrigue.
But I felt some of the storylines were a bit far fetched and some of the characters a bit wishy washy and lacking in depth.
No spoilers here! But I didn’t work out the ending in advance, so what happened was not what I expected and added back to my enjoyment of the book a bit.
3.5 stars

Thank you to Netgalley for allowing me to read this book. A really enjoyable thriller with a few surprise twists. The story was fast paced and kept me interested throughout the whole book. I did find myself questioning what the story with Ryan was and wondered if I missed something. The story didn’t seem to explain what was going on with Ryan or maybe it did and I didn’t pick up on it. An overall good read and 4 stars from me.

I was pretty excited to receive this as an arc (thank you to Netgalley) as I've read a few Mary Kubica books and enjoyed them very much. This one, however, was unreadable. The short repetitive sentences read like a Janet and John book. Spot is a dog. Spot is a good dog. See Spot run. Endless boring descriptions that added nothing to the story and characters I just didn't care about.
Needless to say, I didn't finish it and so I can't really give a balanced review.
I'm really hoping her next book is better.

Jake Hayes is missing. His wife Nina thought he was just blowing off steam after an argument but then five days go by and he's not showing up to work and Nina knows somethings actually wrong. Ninas friend Lily believes she's the last person to have seen Jake alive. Once she confesses everything to her husband they decide no one can find out what happened on the lead up to his disappearance. But Nina won't stop until she finds out the truth.
This was very suspenseful and gripping I really love Mary Kubicas writing. I would have preferred to have Lily's and Jakes perspectives in here too. The ending felt a bit rushed which is the only downside. Though still highly recommend.

A really good family thriller. I really enjoyed this book and raced through it.
Good pace, Interesting characters and some. Ail biting drama. I was hooked.
Thanks to Netgalley, the publisher and the author for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

I'm not off to a very good start this year...
This book has a lot of issues and it was just not good. Kubica's books are most often misses for me, but every once in a while I am impressed which keeps me coming back for more. Next time I think I'll wait for a library copy.

Mary Kubica's novel follows a very intriguing story. Dark and chilling it is creative and inspired. Gripped by the good plotting and pacing, I found the suspense riveting. The author's writing style is impressive and and she is a gifted storyteller who can provide readers with thrills, sophistication and a story packed with substance. I like the way the story evolved, and for me, Just The Nicest Couple is a recommended read that will be of interest to many.
I received a complimentary copy of this novel at my request from HQ via NetGalley and this review is my own unbiased opinion.

My rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 (3.5/5)
I love Kubica’s thrillers — LOCAL WOMAN MISSING was one of my 2022 favourites and THE OTHER MRS is the definition of an unreliable narrator, so I was really excited to be granted early access to her latest release.
This is one of those books where the main event happens so early in and leaves you wondering how there’s a whole book left - it’s definitely in the slow burn thriller gang, and the ending felt on the rushed side BUT what a page turner! I love Kubica’s writing style and the way she builds tension throughout the plot, so you can’t help flying through the pages to find out WHAT is going on!
The anxiety throughout was palpable, the characters well written, and there were plenty of clever plot twists. I didn’t trust a single character by the end, and the major twist was clever and sinister. I personally would recommend her two aforementioned books more but nevertheless, this was an intriguing, engaging and creepy behind-closed-doors page turner.

This is my second Mary Kubica book.
After really enjoying my other book by Kubica I was excited to read her latest release.
Sadly this wasn't as enjoyable for me. While I still enjoyed it I also felt this had some issues that lowered my enjoyment.
Between the writing just feeling off compared to her other book. With some things over explained as if to extend the length.
I also felt the story was a little predictable. With some character inconsistencies that made it obvious to me that the character was suspicious.
While I can acknowledge there was supposed to be a twist, it didn't feel like one as it became obvious the direction the book was going.

Mary Kubica is a new author for me. Thankfully due to a long train journey I was able to read a good chunk of this book in one go for which is was grateful as I couldn’t put it sown. It’s a tense, gripping thriller with a plot line that moved at pace. Full of lies and deceit, I can highly recommend it. Thank you to NetGalley, HQ and the author for the chance to review.

Wow! This plot is excellent! It's so incredibly twisty and a page turner that had me hooked until the end. Fantastic writing and a superb thriller!
The plot involves Nina, who has an argument with surgeon Jake. Then Jake goes missing. He had been acting strangely with Lily, who hit him and has not seen him since. Lily's husband protects her as they have no idea what happened to Jake and what was troubling him.
As more about the characters is revealed, there is more to his disappearance than first appears.
Excellent for mystery, suspense, and psychological thriller fans.

Just the Nicest Couple
This book was a quick read but at the same time in parts I was just wanting to be done. The story just didn't live up to what I was expecting and the characters were just a bit boring. The end was unexpected but also felt very rushed and I felt needed more between the final chapter and the epilogue.
Thank you to Netgalley, H.Q and Mary Kubica for an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest Review

Read this in one sitting, Lily and Christian seem the perfect couple, little does he know his marriage and life will become messy, when Lilly's friend's Husband goes missing after an argument with his wife and Lilly's friend Nina.
Fast paced, nice clean ending.

Having read and enjoyed several of =Kubica's previous books, I was delighted to have the opportunity to read this. It proved to be an entertaining domestic thriller, a page-turning story full of secrets and lies that kept me up reading late in to the night.
It is the story of two couples, Nina and Jake and Lily and Christian. Nina and Lily are friends and teachers at the same school. When Jake goes missing, Nina initially thinks he is cooling off after an argument, but as he fails to reappear she begins to fear the worst. And when Lily tells her husband she may have been the last person to see Jake, Christian decides he will go to any lengths to prevent the truth coming out.
Told from the perspectives of Nina and Christian, I enjoyed the dual points of view as we see a wife determined to find out what has happened to her husband, and a husband determined to protect his wife. At times I wanted to shake the characters as they repeatedly made poor decisions but I kept turning the pages keen to find out what happened - and short chapters successfully built the tension throughout. There are plenty of twists and turns, and Kubica cleverly throws in some red herrings which meant I was kept guessing throughout as the book headed to its big reveal. My one frustration was perhaps that the ending felt a little rushed and for that reason it is not necessarily my favourite of Kubica’s books, but she remains a must read author for me who writes thrillers you won’t want to put down.

I really enjoyed this book - I am a fan of Mary Kubica anyway so I knew this would be a good one. I felt like I knew what was going on and how the story would unfold, I actually thought it was obvious. At least I did until the reveal at the end that turned out not quite as I expected. I loved the way that it ended, it was unexpected yet made so much sense to the story. Highly recommend.

I have read all of Mary Kubica’s previous books and would consider myself a fan of her work. For some reason I didn’t find this one quite as gripping as some of her others. That’s not to say it’s a bad book but I didn’t find myself rooting for any of the characters like I expect to. The blurb promises lies and betrayal and both were plentiful here. There’s also an ending that I didn’t see coming. I’m sure this will be popular and I look forward to the next book.
