Another great book by this author . It had a slow build up with the suspense and the ending was amazing and I certainly didn’t expect that ending . I loved all the characters and the storyline . I would highly recommend this book to my audience. 5 stars from me
Thank you to #NetGalley and #HQ for my copy of #JustTheNicestCouple by #MaryKubica
Oh what a tangled web Mary Kubica weaves with different threads leading to different people.
A taut thriller that confuses you to the end.
I have previously bought some of Mary Kubicas books in the past, so as soon as I saw that this one was available to review I was thrilled.
I am always a fan of books that switch perspectives, and this was no different. The book consists of three different perspectives, where you get to understand different motives of each of them, and continually guessing who could have commited the crime. I loved the twist at the end, as I hadn't guessed that. I was so sure I knew who was the murderer! I think there are great characters in this book that were explored, and I loved the way in which it was wrote too.
I read this book so quickly as it was so easy to get into, and that is just credit to the fab author. I can't wait to continue reading more of her work in the future, and would recommend to anybody else who enjoys a thriller!
This is small town America. Two teachers at the local school are friends until one of the husbands disappears after a blazing row with his wife. She thinks he is just cooling off so does not report him missing for several days. Her friend was the last person to see him alive as she confesses to her husband. As she is newly pregnant after several miscarriages they decide to keep this to themselves and the web of deceit grows and tightens. I found this an easy read and I enjoyed the slow burn as the suspense ramps up to an unexpected ending which I didn’t see coming. I will happily recommend it. For a thriller it is also a thoughtful book.
Thanks to H.Q and NetGalley for an ARC in return for an honest review.
Apologies but this book was not for me,I tried a couple of times but coukd nit find anything to keep me reading
I always enjoy Mary Kubica and this was no exception.
A story following two couples and one husband goes missing, what appears to be isn't quite what it seems. A tale full of suspense, with characters who Surprise at every turn.
Ultimately exploring the lengths that humans will go to protect the ones they love, in some cases, finding themselves in situations they never thought they'd be in, doing things they never thought they would do.
Great read
I really enjoyed the latest offering from author Mary Kubica. A well written thriller, full of suspense and deception that kept me gripped throughout.
Two couples, two close friends, one missing husband…
The novel focus’s on two couples, Lily and Christian and Lily’s best friend Nina and Jake. Jake has disappeared following a heated argument with Nina. At first Nina suspects that is disappearance is nothing more than him giving her some space after the row but as the days go by without any sign of Jack she starts to get more concerned. Their relationship is not quite the perfect couple they appear to be to everyone else. Added to that both couples have more than a few secrets that threatens the couples friendship.
Nina is desperate to find out what has happened to Jake, but Lily has her own secrets and after confessing to her husband Christian the two decide that nobody can find out what happened leading up to Jake’s disappearance,
There are many mixed reviews on this book, with some readers finding it a little slow in the beginning but I enjoy the steady build up of suspense as we learn about each character. I really enjoyed it and ready it straight through in one sitting. I would rate it somewhere between 4 and 5 stars.
I would like to thank both Netgalley and HQ for supplying a copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review.
Heard so many good things about this author recently so was really looking forward to this going in.
The charecters, I couldn't warm to any of them at points it felt infuriating seeing them p
choosing the wrong options but obviously there wouldn't be much of book if they did the right thing.
I did like how it was told from to different pov's it kept the suspense going and there was a few twists to keep you on your toes and especially the ending which I did not expect.
Thank you to Netgalley for the Arc.
This novel had me glued to the pages and kept me up into the early morning hours trying to see what's coming and who did what.
Nina's husband disappears and the fall out from that takes us on a wild ride.
The only tiny negative I has is that I feel the ending is a bit rushed and could've been more fleshed out.
This story of missing husband and a couple keeping secrets kept me entertained.
Some twist and turns but I had guessed them early on, it was still an enjoyable read.
Thank you to NetGalley and HQ for my e-copy in exchange for an honest review.
Wow this was fantastic = such a great read. It could have gone in so many directions and I thought yes it is going to go here, then I was wrong, and then yet again. Love this about a book that so keeps you interested and going.
Fantastic. This author never disappoints
I was given an advance copy by the publishers and netgalley but the review is entirely my own.
Well written with a compelling story and well developed characters. There was a good level of unpredictability and twists but unfortunately I was able to predict the ending. However it didn't stop me enjoying it 3.5 stars
I was super excited to read this book after seeing some great reviews about it by American readers.
It certainly didn’t disappoint and Mary Kubica really knows how to write a fantastic domestic thriller.
I was quickly drawn in and I inhaled each page.
The ending was a little predictable but that did take away from my overall enjoyment.
This really is a fantastic read and one that I’d thoroughly recommend.
I'm a big fan of Mary Kubica's books ,in particular Local Woman Missing and The Good Girl which are excellent, so I was really looking forward to her latest, Just The Nicest Couple. Sadly it's far from one of her best,it is a good story but it drags and feels padded out with excessive detail in lieu of a fast moving plot.
The book is about 2 couples, Jake and Nina and Nina's best friend Lily and her husband Christian.
On the surface the couples enjoy a good relationship but there's plenty going on beneath the surface..
Jake arrives home one evening to find the newly pregnant Lily distressed and fearful while Nina worries when Jake doesn't come home after they've had a blazing row. From the beginning it's rather pedestrian and that "padding" I mentioned at the start of this review includes pages about Lily's pregnancy and an in-depth look at Nina's Mother's eye condition. Yes both are relevant to the plot but at times it feels more like reading wikipedia entries on various pregnancy issues and macular degeneration respectively than part of a thriller.
It's not a bad book but it's also not up to Mary Kubica's usual standards and I found myself skimming through slow or irrelevant parts far too often.
I loved this, a really good easy read which I finished in one sitting.
The story focuses on two couples and when one of the husbands goes missing there is mystery, secrets and lies a plenty between them and we start to unravel details of their personal lives and wonder exactly what the truth is.
There are some trigger alerts for me including the immense sadness of miscarriage and the tentativeness and nervousness of subsequent pregnancies but this was sensitively handled I felt. There are family and spouse loyalties explored me a few red herrings along the way until the final reveal, which I didn’t entirely see coming so that was welcome. Some of the narrative was a tiny bit twee for me and repetitive in places but it didn’t detract from the overall story and as I said at the start of my review it was a good easy read. I would happily recommend this one.
I have enjoyed previous books by this author however this one just didn’t work for me. It was slow and lacked suspense. I was so disappointed.
What a fabulous thriller ,two couples ,one husband goes missing for seemingly no reason but where is he ?This is a brilliant mystery that keeps on giving ,just when you think you know the answer a curve ball is thrown in the mix .Full of secrets and lies a compelling story with a surprise ending .Thank you to NetGalley for my ARC.
I did enjoy this book and read it through to see how things panned out at the end. I generally like things a little more fast paced that this, but I think many people will find it enjoyable.
Thanks to Mary and NetGalley for allowing me to read Just the Nicest Couple before the publication date.
This is a story of 2 couples, who on the surface are friends and respectable professionals. In private, each has their secrets and insecurities.
Lily and Nina are close friends and colleagues, but there is an underlying sensitivity as Lily is pregnant again, having previously experienced miscarriages.
When Jake goes missing, where will the loyalties lie?
This was an easy read but it did not grab my attention.
I would still recommend this. However it was not my favourite of hers and I had to DNF. I could not connect to the story or the characters. I had high hopes for this after loving her previous release. Unfortunately not for me, but might work for others.
